Abstract We report a measurement of the observed cross sections of e^{+}e^{-}→J/ψX based on 3.21  fb^{-1} of data accumulated at energies from 3.645 to 3.891 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider. In analysis of the cross sections, we measured the decay branching fractions of B(ψ(3686)→J/ψX)=(64.4±0.6±1.6)% and B(ψ(3770)→J/ψX)=(0.5±0.2±0.1)% for the first time. The energy-dependent line shape of these cross sections cannot be well described by two Breit-Wigner (BW) amplitudes of the expected decays ψ(3686)→J/ψX and ψ(3770)→J/ψX. Instead, it can be better described with one more BW amplitude of the decay R(3760)→J/ψX. Under this assumption, we extracted the R(3760) mass M_{R(3760)}=3766.2±3.8±0.4  MeV/c^{2} , total width Γ_{R(3760)}^{tot}=22.2±5.9±1.4  MeV, and product of leptonic width and decay branching fraction Γ_{R(3760)}^{ee}B[R(3760)→J/ψX]=(79.4±85.5±11.7)  eV. The significance of the R(3760) is 5.3σ. The first uncertainties of these measured quantities are from fits to the cross sections and second systematic.

Abstract Cultural items (e.g., songs, books, and movies) have an important impact in creating and reinforcing stereotypes. But the actual nature of such items is often less transparent. Take songs, for example. Are lyrics biased against women, and how have any such biases changed over time? Natural language processing of a quarter of a million songs quantifies gender bias in music over the last 50 years. Women are less likely to be associated with desirable traits (i.e., competence), and while this bias has decreased, it persists. Ancillary analyses further suggest that song lyrics may contribute to shifts in collective attitudes and stereotypes toward women, and that lyrical shifts are driven by male artists (as female artists were less biased to begin with). Overall, these results shed light on cultural evolution, subtle measures of bias and discrimination, and how natural language processing and machine learning can provide deeper insight into stereotypes, cultural change, and a range of psychological questions more generally. Abstract Definitions of syncopation share two characteristics: the presence of a meter or analogous hierarchical rhythmic structure and a displacement or contradiction of that structure. These attributes are translated in terms of a Bayesian theory of syncopation, where the syncopation of a rhythm is inferred based on a hierarchical structure that is, in turn, learned from the ongoing musical stimulus. Several experiments tested its simplest possible implementation, with equally weighted priors associated with different meters and independence of auditory events, which can be decomposed into two terms representing note density and deviation from a metric hierarchy. A computational simulation demonstrated that extant measures of syncopation fall into two distinct factors analogous to the terms in the simple Bayesian model. Next, a series of behavioral experiments found that perceived syncopation is significantly related to both terms, offering support for the general Bayesian construction of syncopation. However, we also found that the prior expectations associated with different metric structures are not equal across meters and that there is an interaction between density and hierarchical deviation, implying that auditory events are not independent from each other. Together, these findings provide evidence that syncopation is a manifestation of a form of temporal expectation that can be directly represented in Bayesian terms and offer a complementary, feature-driven approach to recent Bayesian models of temporal prediction.

Abstract Background/objective: Sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) is a common cause of infant death. We evaluated whether a predictive risk model (PRM) - Hello Baby - which was developed to stratify children by risk of entry into foster care could also identify infants at highest risk of SUID and non-fatal unsafe sleep events.
Participants and setting: Cases: Infants with SUID or an unsafe sleep event over 5½ years in a single county.
Controls: All births in the same county.
Methods: Retrospective case-control study. Demographic and clinical data were collected and a Hello Baby PRM score was assigned. Descriptive statistics and the predictive value of a PRM score of 20 were calculated.
Results: Infants with SUID (n = 62) or an unsafe sleep event (n = 37) (cases) were compared with 23,366 births (controls). Cases and controls were similar for all demographic and clinical data except that infants with unsafe sleep events were older. Median PRM score for cases was higher than controls (17.5 vs. 10, p < 0.001); 50 % of cases had a PRM score 17-20 vs. 16 % of controls (p < 0.001).
Conclusions: The Hello Baby PRM can identify newborns at high risk of SUID and non-fatal unsafe sleep events. The ability to identify high-risk newborns prior to a negative outcome allows for individualized evaluation of high-risk families for modifiable risk factors which are potentially amenable to intervention. This approach is limited by the fact that not all counties can calculate a PRM or similar score automatically.
