Abstract Objective: In 1929, yi jing (pestilent convulsion) was prevalent in Shanghai, Yan Cangshan, a noted modern physician, was active in treating and rescuing the patients. Yi jingjia ting zi liao ji is a book of the summary on his clinical experience in the treatment of yi jing (pestilent convulsion). It is the first monograph on epidemic diseases carrying the title of yi jing (pestilent convulsion). There were many creative ideas about the name of disease, prescriptions, and medication, etc, embodying Yan's academic thought and achievements. It is of great reference value up to now.

Abstract Neogene climates and vegetation history of western Yunnan are reconstructed on the basis of known fossil plants using the Coexistence Approach (CA) and Leaf Margin Analysis (LMA). Four Neogene leaf floras from Tengchong, Jianchuan and Eryuan in southwestern China are analyzed by the CA, and the paleoclimatic data of one Miocene carpoflora from Longling and three Pliocene palynofloras from Longling, Yangyi and Eryuan are used for comparison. The Miocene vegetation of the whole of West Yunnan is subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest, and a similar mean annual precipitation is inferred for Tengchong, Longling and Jianchuan. However, by the Late Pliocene a large difference in vegetation occurred between the two slopes of Gaoligong Mountain, western Yunnan. The region of Tengchong retained a subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest vegetation, whereas in Yangyi and Eryuan a vertical vegetation zonation had developed, which consists, in ascending order, of humid evergreen broad-leaved, needle and broad-leaved mixed evergreen, and coniferous forests. Distinctively, the Late Pliocene vegetational patterns of West Yunnan were already very similar to those of the present, and the Pliocene mean annual precipitation in Tengchong was markedly higher than that of Yangyi and Eryuan. Considering that the overall vegetation of West Yunnan and the precipitation at Yangyi and Eryuan have undergone no distinct change since the Late Pliocene, we conclude that the Hengduan Mountains on the northern boundary of West Yunnan must have arisen after the Miocene and approached their highest elevation before the Late Pliocene. Furthermore, the fact of the eastern portion of the Tibetan Plateau underwent a slight uplift after the Late Pliocene is also supported.

Abstract Abstract Background The objective of this study is to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the relationship between the vasoactive-inotropic score (VIS) and patient outcomes in surgical settings. Methods Two independent reviewers searched PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, and CNKI databases from November 2010, when the VIS was first published, to December 2022. Additional studies were identified through hand-searching the reference lists of included studies. Eligible studies were those published in English that evaluated the association between the VIS and short- or long-term patient outcomes in both pediatric and adult surgical patients. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan Manager version 5.3, and quality assessment followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklists. Results A total of 58 studies comprising 29,920 patients were included in the systematic review, 34 of which were eligible for meta-analysis. Early postoperative VIS was found to be associated with prolonged mechanical ventilation (OR 5.20, 95% CI 3.78–7.16), mortality (OR 1.08, 95% CI 1.05–1.12), acute kidney injury (AKI) (OR 1.26, 95% CI 1.13–1.41), poor outcomes (OR 1.02, 95% CI 1.01–1.04), and length of stay (LOS) in the ICU (OR 3.50, 95% CI 2.25–5.44). The optimal cutoff value for the VIS as an outcome predictor varied between studies, ranging from 10 to 30. Conclusion Elevated early postoperative VIS is associated with various adverse outcomes, including acute kidney injury (AKI), mechanical ventilation duration, mortality, poor outcomes, and length of stay (LOS) in the ICU. Monitoring the VIS upon return to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) could assist medical teams in risk stratification, targeted interventions, and parent counseling. Abstract Despite the proliferation of research on anesthesiology training at all stages of medical education, there is relatively little published literature surveying the perspectives and concerns of anesthesiologists regarding cardiovascular anesthesia training. Therefore, we conducted a survey to investigate the attitudes, barriers, expectations, stress experiences, satisfaction, and future aspirations of anesthesiologists trained at a tertiary cardiovascular specialty hospital in China. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 260 anesthesiologists who received cardiovascular anesthesia training at departments of anesthesiology in a tertiary cardiovascular specialty hospital in China. After the study protocol was approved, electronic questionnaires were distributed to the target group through the online survey software "Wen Juan Xing." Respondents were asked to complete an anonymous questionnaire on their smartphones through WeChat, with the restriction of one response per device enabled. Of the 260 trainees, 240 (98%) completed the questionnaire. The majority of the trainees were 31 years of age or above. A large majority had approximately 10 years of clinical anesthesia practice, and nearly one-third had never undertaken cardiovascular specialty anesthesia practice before. The most common reasons for attending the refresher training were the need to learn basic specialty theory and improve clinical skills. The barriers were mainly time constraints or staff shortages in the department. Sixty-one (93.8%) trainees described the experience as "stressful or highly stressful" and identified poor teacher interaction as the highest-ranking stressor. Anesthesiologists were most dissatisfied with job rewards, with a satisfaction rate of only 15%. Anesthesiologists are highly stressed during the refresher training. Poor teacher interaction and low job rewards were identified as the highest-ranking stressors during cardiovascular anesthesia training. Training providers need to pay more attention to these stressors to enhance the quality of cardiovascular anesthesia training.

Abstract Background: As a routine procedure in assisted reproductive technology (ART), it is crucial to assess the safety of frozen and thawed embryo transfer (FET). We aimed to investigate the metabolic profile of children conceived through FET in their early childhood.
Method: A total of 147 children between the age of 1.5 and 4 years old, conceived through FET or naturally conceived (NC), were recruited. A total of 89 children, 65 in the FET group and 24 in the NC group (matched with the FET group based on children's BMI) were included in the final statistical analysis of biochemical markers and metabolomics.
Results: Children conceived through FET had a lower level of fasting insulin level and HORM-IR and a higher level of fasting glucose and APOE as compared to children naturally conceived. Metabolomics showed that there were 16 small differential metabolites, mainly including amino acids, carnitines, organic acids, butyric, and secondary bile acid between two groups, which enriched in Nitrogen metabolism, Butanoate metabolism, Phenylalanine metabolism, and D-Arginine and D-ornithine metabolism pathways.
Conclusion: Although the FET group had a significantly higher level of APOE and fasting glucose, it cannot yet be considered that children in the FET group had an obvious disorder of glucose and lipid metabolism. However, the potentially more active intestinal flora and lower carnitine levels of children in the FET group suggested by metabolomics are worth further exploration.

Abstract Background: The study aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of lupus-related pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and monocytes (MONs) for lupus nephritis (LN).
Methods: PBMCs were isolated from a cohort with 37 LN patients and 39 healthy controls (HCs), and MONs were derived from another cohort with 70 LN patients and 66 HCs. Q-PCR was used to measure the mRNA levels of CGAS, IFNB1, AIM2, IL1Β, NLRC4, NLRP3, NLRP12 and ZBP1 in the PBMCs and MONs. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the data in LN patients and HCs. Eleven GEO datasets of SLE/LN were used to perform differentially expressed genes (DEGs) analysis to these PRR genes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was employed to assess the performance of individual genes or the disease prediction model established by combining multiple genes in LN diagnosis. Spearman correlation method was done to analyze the correlation between these PRRs and other clinical characteristics.
Results: The mRNA levels of five genes (AIM2, NLRC4, IL1B, NLRP12 and ZBP1) in PBMCs, and seven genes (CGAS, IFNB1, AIM2, IL1B, NLRP3, NLRP12 and ZBP1) in MONs of LN patients were significantly higher than those of HCs (P < 0.05). DEGs analysis based on the GEO datasets showed that ZBP1, AIM2 and IL1B were significantly increased in several datasets. The ROC curve analysis indicated that the area under curve (AUC) of the LN prediction models derived from PBMCs or MONs were 0.82 or 0.91 respectively. In addition, the expression levels of these PRRs were correlated with other clinical features in LN patients, including Anti-Sm, ESR, serum Cr, and C3.
Conclusion: Our study suggests that these lupus-related PRRs might be served as potential biomarkers of LN.
