    Abstract We have found a chameleonic reactivity of imidoyl sulfoxonium ylides. On the one hand, imidoyl sulfoxonium ylides react with electron-deficient reagents, such as alkynyl esters, to lead to the formation of 1,2-dihydro-pyridines. The methyl group attached to the sulfur atom acts as a methylene donor. On the other hand, imidoyl sulfoxonium ylides react with pyridinium 1,4-zwitterionic thiolates, which leads to the formation of functionalized pyrroles. Both transformations feature mild reaction conditions and good functional group tolerance.

    Abstract Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are stable carcinogens that are widely distributed in the environment and food, and humans are exposed to PAHs primarily through the respiratory tracts, dermal contact, and dietary intake. Meat products are an essential part of the human diet, and the formation of PAHs during meat processing is unavoidable. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of PAHs in meat products can be a contribution to the minimization of human exposure dose. The aim of this review is to provide a comprehensive description of the toxicological analysis of PAHs intake and the various production pathways. The distribution of different PAHs in various meat products, including poultry and aquatic products, is analyzed. The discussion focuses on controlling PAHs through the use of endogenous marinades and antioxidants as well as reducing exogenous particulate matter-PAHs attachment. In addition, potential strategies for PAHs reduction and possible directions for future research are proposed.

    Abstract To promote residents’ waste separation behavior, waste separation supervision has been a crucial need. This paper aims to explore the supervision mechanism of residents’ waste separation behavior using a tripartite evolutionary game model. The evolutionary stability conditions of resident, property service enterprise, and the government were analyzed. The influences of the main parameters on the strategy of three stakeholders were explored through numerical simulation. The results show that the regulatory mechanism of waste separation will reach the optimal stable strategy when the following conditions are satisfied: (1) the penalty for nonclassification is higher than the difference between classification cost and the total benefit of classification; (2) the subsidy to property services enterprise is greater than the total cost of positive participation management. Residents’ behaviors are mainly influenced by rewards and punishments. The behavioral strategies of property service companies are more sensitive to subsidies than penalties. In the early stage of mandatory waste separation, it is important to reduce the cost of residents’ separation, develop the publics’ environmental awareness, and increase the willingness of properties to participate in management. This paper presents a new perspective and theoretical guidelines for the local government and communities to supervise residents’ waste separation behaviors in China and other developing countries and offers useful insights into waste separation management for other countries.

    Abstract Constructing 3D nanophotonic structures is regarded as an effective method to realize efficient solar-to-hydrogen conversion. These photonic structures can enhance the absorbance of photoelectrodes by the light trapping effect, promote the charge separation by designable charge transport pathway and provide a high specific surface area for catalytic reaction. However, most 3D structures reported so far mainly focused on the influence of light absorption and lacked a systematic investigation of the overall water splitting process. Herein, hematite hollow-sphere-array photoanodes are fabricated through a facile hydrothermal method with polystyrene templates. Validating by simulations and experiments, the hollow sphere array is proved to enhance the efficiency of light harvesting, charge separation and surface reaction at the same time.     Abstract Umami peptides are valuable taste substances due to their exceptional taste and beneficial properties. In this study, purification of fermented goose bone broth was performed using continuous chromatography and sensory analysis, and after identification through nano-LC-MS/MS, four umami peptides were screened out by umami activity prediction and molecular docking, which are VGYDAE, GATGRDGAR, GETGEAGER, and GETGEAGERG derived from collagen. Sensory analysis indicated that they were also umami-enhancing, with thresholds ranging from 0.41 to 1.15 mmol/L, among which GER9 was the best. Combining the results of docking and molecular dynamics simulation, it was known that hydrogen bond and electrostatic interactions were vital in driving the umami formation. Moreover, Glu, Ser, and Asp of umami receptor T1R1/T1R3 were the key residues for the binding between four umami peptides and T1R1/T1R3. These findings provide novel insights into the high-value utilization of goose bones and offer profound theoretical guidance for understanding the umami mechanism.

    Abstract Monitoring and controlling the freezing process and thermal properties of foods is an important means to understand and maintain product quality. Saccharides were used in this study to regulate the gelation of liquid egg yolks induced by freeze‒thawing; the selected saccharides included sucrose, L-arabinose, xylitol, trehalose, D-cellobiose, and xylooligosaccharides. The regulatory effects of saccharides on frozen egg yolks were investigated by characterizing their thermal and rheological properties and structural changes. The results showed that L-arabinose and xylitol were effective gelation regulators. After freeze‒thawing, the sugared egg yolks exhibited a lower consistency index and fewer rheological units than those without saccharides, indicating controlled gelation. Weaker aggregation of egg yolk proteins was confirmed by smaller aggregates observed by confocal laser scanning microscopy and smaller particle sizes. Saccharides alleviated the freeze-induced conversion of α-helices to β-sheets in egg yolk proteins, exposing fewer Trp residues. Overall, L-arabinose showed the greatest improvement in regulating the gelation of egg yolks, followed by xylitol, which is correlated with its low molecular weight.

    Abstract What is known and objective: Long-term anticoagulant/antithrombotic therapy is widely used for the management of thromboembolic conditions. Gastrointestinal bleeding is a common collateral manifestation of anticoagulant/antithrombotic therapy that complicates its administration. The continuation or discontinuation of anticoagulant/antithrombotic therapy after an episode of gastrointestinal bleeding has been a matter of debate. Despite recent positive reports from retrospective cohort studies suggesting a reduction in morbidity- and mortality-related outcomes with continued administration of anticoagulant/antithrombotic agents (even after gastrointestinal bleeding), no consensus or comparisons about the efficacies of continued or discontinued antithrombotic administration exist. Therefore, we developed this current state-of-evidence analysis evaluating the comparative effects of continuation and discontinuation of anticoagulant/antithrombotic drugs after gastrointestinal bleeding on the overall incidences of gastrointestinal bleeding, thromboembolic events and mortality events.
    Methods: We performed a systematic academic literature search according to the PRISMA guidelines across five databases: Web of Science, Embase, CENTRAL, Scopus and MEDLINE. Moreover, we conducted a random effect meta-analysis to compare the effects of continuation and discontinuation of anticoagulant/antithrombotic drugs after an event of gastrointestinal bleeding on the overall incidences of gastrointestinal bleeding, thromboembolic events and mortality events.
    Results: We found seven eligible studies (from 1397 candidates) with 2532 participants (mean age, 73.1 ± 4.1 years). Our meta-analysis revealed lower odds of thromboembolic events (OR, -0.21), mortality outcomes (OR, -0.39) and an increase in the incidence of gastrointestinal bleeding (OR, 2.4) in the group with continued anticoagulant/antithrombotic therapy than in the group discontinuing the therapy.
    What is new and conclusion: We provide an updated evidence on the comparative effects between continuation and discontinuation of anticoagulant/antithrombotic drugs after gastrointestinal bleeding events based on the overall incidences of gastrointestinal bleeding, thromboembolic events and mortality events. This study reports confirm an overall lower incidence of thromboembolic events and mortality outcomes for the continuation group than for the discontinuation group.
