    Abstract The present article analyses migratory trends between Chile and Spain in the early 19th century, based on the figure of Miguel Riesco and the Instrucciones given by his father Manuel in 1805. These trends are examined in terms of family and commercial strategies and long-range networks, as well as in terms of the transmission of social and ethical values associated to professional practice. From this perspective, the study of the Instrucciones is organised around four main axes: the first two are related to more concrete and tangible aspects, such as routes, goods, commercial profiles, the agents and their links; the final two deal with more intangible aspects, such as moral and social recommendations, private religious practice, ethical values and the transmission of professional knowledge. In short, the analysis ranges from the most intimate and private realm to the sphere of public and social characterisation; this has allowed, not only for the general outline of the commercial company of the Riesco to be revealed, but for the main tenets of Atlantic commerce during the final years of the colonial period to be defined.

    Abstract Este documento es una traducción al inglés del artículo original "Repensando la Independencia de Cuba a partir de Biografía de un cimarrón de Miguel Barnet" publicado en este mismo número. The testimonial novel Biography of a Runaway Slave by Miguel Barnet is one of the pioneers of the narrative genre and has attracted the attention of critics from the moment of its publication. Scholars see the testimonial novel as a text that allows the reader access to a "genuine" episteme, safeguarded by a witness of historical events. The main objective of this article is to demonstrate that the narrative of the maroon and former mambí Esteban Montejo opens new ways of reading and analyzing historical events. In particular, I will focus on Montejo’s statements on the Cuban War of Independence. For this purpose, I will use the theory of the Subaltern Studies as a methodological tool. The analysis will show the denial of Afro-Cuban agency in the official history of independence in Cuba, and will offer a reading of the events that recognizes the important Afro-descendant contribution.

    Abstract Los procesos participativos permiten analizar, comprender, debatir y promover la acción colectiva en asuntos significativos para una comunidad. Estas metodologías activas favorecen la identificación de necesidades y activos en salud para elaborar un diagnóstico de salud comunitaria y promover acciones colectivas. En este sentido, la aplicación de los procesos participativos en el contexto universitario resulta de gran interés para el fortalecimiento de las universidades como comunidades promotoras de la salud. En este trabajo se describe el desarrollo del proceso participativo #beUMHealthy, cuyo objetivo principal fue potenciar el debate sobre la salud y las iniciativas de promoción de la salud en el alumnado de la Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH). El proyecto se desarrolló entre mayo y noviembre del 2019. Se recogieron 22 participaciones mediante WhatsApp y 173 cuestionarios diligenciados en línea. Este proceso permitió identificar necesidades y activos en salud en el alumnado de la UMH y obtener propuestas para su mejora. Esta información se usará para promover acciones futuras que incrementen la salud de la comunidad universitaria.

    Abstract El relato testimonial Biografía de un cimarrón de Miguel Barnet es uno de los pioneros del género narrativo y ha llamado la atención de la crítica desde el momento de su publicación. La novela-testimonio es vista por investigadores como un texto que permite el acceso del público lector a una episteme “genuina”, salvaguardada por un testigo de eventos históricos. El objetivo principal del presente artículo es demostrar que el relato del cimarrón y exmambí Esteban Montejo abre nuevos caminos de lectura y análisis de momentos históricos. En especial, nos enfocaremos en sus declaraciones sobre la guerra de la Independencia Cubana. Con este propósito, utilizaremos como herramienta metodológica la teoría de los Estudios Subalternos. El análisis pondrá en evidencia la negación de la agencia afrocubana en la historia oficial de la época independentista en Cuba, y ofrecerá una lectura de los eventos que reconozca el importante aporte afrodescendiente.

    Title translation MEDICINE IN THE LITERARY WORK OF MIGUEL TORCA.
    Abstract Miguel Torga (Sao Martinho de Anta 1907 - Coimbra 1995) was one of the most important portuguese writers of the twentieth century. There is such identity between his medical and literary activity that he used to say that "his own hand not only writes but also prescribes". Reading his work, mainly autobiographical, allows us to analyze their vision of medicine, the patient physician relationship and how a doctor lives his own disease. In the first case medicine constitute an essential tool to help nature and, therefore, an instrument that makes hope possible. In the second case indicates that in the patient physician relationship are present sadness, stress, anxiety and a supreme exercise of the human condition which is the anamnesis when the patients open their intimity to the doctor. In the third case Torga's work illustrates how a physician can live his own illness as an advantage, as a judicial sentence or as a possibility. Approaching to the medicine under perspective of Miguel Torga, doctor and writer, will help us to understand medicine in a more human context in which the life of the doctor is not stranger to their patients, or to the nature and the concrete world that both share.

    Abstract Fundamento: Dentro de los grandes síndromes geriátricos, la inmovilidad es una de las más graves consecuencias de las enfermedades que puede sufrir el anciano. Objetivo: Caracterizar el comportamiento del síndrome de inmovilidad en los adultos mayores del Grupo Básico de Trabajo n.o 1 del policlínico Bernardo Posse de San Miguel del Padrón. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo, en 145 pacientes con síndrome de inmovilidad, de una población de 160 ancianos desde enero de 2015 a diciembre del 2017. Se determinó el tipo de inmovilidad, y las causas principales, así como las complicaciones. Resultados: El síndrome predominó en pacientes femeninos en edades altas de la vida. El tipo de inmovilidad más frecuente fue la larvada y las causas más frecuentes fueron las enfermedades osteomioarticulares, las infecciones, el cáncer y el síndrome del cuidador. Las complicaciones que predominaron fueron a nivel de los sistemas digestivo, respiratorio, cardiovascular y la piel. Conclusiones: El riesgo de presentar algún tipo de inmovilidad aumenta con la edad y el sexo femenino es más susceptible a este. La inmovilidad es una entidad sindromática que deteriora de manera significativa la calidad de vida de los adultos mayores ya que el anciano inmovilizado es un paciente de alto riesgo para la aparición de complicaciones.

    Abstract Background : the state exam is the completion of the exercises to obtain the degree of specialist in family medicine and it shows the training in different priority topics of primary health care. Objective : to analyze the results of the theoretical state exam to obtain the degree of specialist in family medicine, given in the period October-November 2017, at the “Miguel Enríquez” Faculty of Medicine of the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. Methods : a longitudinal descriptive study was carried out with the teaching results of the state exam declared in the objective. Results : the questions with the lowest grades belonged to the topics on analysis of the health situation (8 residents, 53,3 % of the total), obstetric hemorrhage (6 residents, 40 %) and aging (3 residents, 20 %). In the rest of the assessed topics 86,7 % of the residents obtained good results. Conclusions : the theoretical state exam to obtain the degree of specialist in family medicine showed cognitive deficiencies on the analysis of the health situation and obstetric hemorrhage.
