Abstract The severe shuttle effect and the depletion of active sulfur result in performance deterioration, presenting two formidable issues that must be overcome to achieve high-mass-loading lithium-sulfur batteries. Herein, we reported a composite separator by introducing carbon photonic crystals with a hierarchically ordered porous structure on a commercial separator. The ordered structure and interconnected hierarchical macro-meso-micropore network of the composite separator facilitate efficient trapping of polysulfides and rapid transport of lithium ions. The high ion diffusivity promotes the conversion of polysulfides enhancing sulfur utilization and mitigating the occurrence of "dead sulfur" on the surface of the separator. Impressively, under a high sulfur loading of 3 mg cm

Abstract The oscillation characteristics of a single bubble and its induced radiation pressure and the dissipated power are essential for a wide range of applications. For bubble oscillations with high Mach number, the influence of the liquid compressibility is significantly strong and should be fully considered. In the present paper, the bubble wall motion equation with the second-order Mach number is employed for investigating a free oscillating bubble in the liquid with numerical and experimental verifications. For the purpose of comparisons, the revised Keller-Miksis equation up to the first-order Mach number is solved with the same conditions (e.g. the initial conditions and the ambient pressure). Through our simulations, comparing with the predictions by the first-order equation, we find that: (1) The bubble radius, the bubble wall radial velocity and the bubble wall radial acceleration predicted by the second-order equation with high Mach number are significantly different respectively, and the dimensionless differences increase with the increase of the Mach number. (2) The valid prediction range of the second-order equation is much larger. (3) The dissipated power predicted by the second-order equation with high Mach number is smaller.

Abstract IBS is a prevalent clinical condition affecting bowel function. There is a restricted comprehension of its pathogenesis, an absence of particular diagnostic tools, and an insufficiency of efficient pharmacological remedies. MiRNAs are a highly conserved class of non-coding small molecule RNAs, with a length of 20-24 nucleotides. Research has shown the presence of a number of differentially expressed miRNAs in the colonic tissue and peripheral blood of IBS patients. Meanwhile, miRNAs have a critical role in gene expression and the pathology of IBS as they act as significant mediators of post-transcriptional gene silencing. The investigation of miRNA molecular regulatory networks proves useful in examining the convoluted pathogenesis of IBS. This paper presents a review of recent literature on miRNAs associated with IBS, explains how miRNAs contribute to the development of IBS, and assesses the potential usefulness of miRNA analysis for diagnosing and treating IBS.

Abstract In this paper, the cavitation bubble dynamics near two spherical particles of the same size are investigated theoretically and experimentally. According to the Weiss theorem, the flow characteristics and the Kelvin impulse are obtained and supported by the sufficient experimental data. In terms of the initial bubble position, the bubble size and the distance between the two particles, the collapse morphology and the movement characteristics of the bubble are revealed in detail. The main findings include: (1) Based on a large number of experimental results, it is found that the Kelvin impulse theoretical model established in this paper can effectively predict the movement characteristics of the cavitation bubble near two particles of the same size. (2) When the initial bubble position is gradually away from the particles along the horizontal symmetry axis near two particles of the same size, the movement distance of the bubble centroid in the first period increases first and then decreases. (3) When the initial position of the bubble centroid is at the asymmetric position near the two particles, the movement direction of the bubble centroid is biased towards the particle closer to the bubble, but not towards the center of this particle.

Abstract Tanshinone IIA serves as a coenzyme for certain biochemical reactions, exhibiting various pharmacological effects in the treatment of neurological diseases including spinal cord injury (SCI), however, its working mechanism in the treatment of SCI is not clear. Based on previous research, we believe that tanshinone IIA promotes the survival and repair of nerves after spinal cord injury through its pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and prevention of cellular apoptosis in the spinal cord.

Abstract When proteostasis is challenged and becomes unbalanced, unfolded proteins can accumulate in the cells. Protein unfolding causes conformational changes and subsequent differentials in side-chain solvent accessibility and reactivity. In particular, when protein unfolds, non-disulfide-bonded cysteines that are usually buried in the native state can become surface exposed and thus accessible. A series of fluorogenic dyes including tetraphenylethene maleimide (TPE-MI) and its analogs were developed to capture cysteine exposure in unfolded proteins as a measure of unfolded protein load and proteostasis capacity in cells. These dyes are inherently non-fluorescent but show fluorescence turn-on effect when conjugated to unfolded proteins via reacting with exposed cysteines on the protein. Reacting with small biothiols such as glutathione does not induce fluorescence of these dyes. Here we describe the routine workflow to characterize unfolded proteins in vitro or unfolded proteomes in cells by TPE-MIs.

Abstract Maturation is essential for dendritic cells (DCs) to function as a bridge between innate and adaptive immunity. The plastic maturation states correspond to the multifaceted roles of DCs in the initiation of protective, tolerogenic and pathogenic immune responses. The formation of a distinct maturation state of DCs involves the complex crosstalk between the intrinsic differences in their ontogeny and the immune environments. Recent studies have defined a universal mature DC population in the tumor microenvironment (TME), but their ontogenesis and functions remain unclear. Here, we summarize recent advances in DC maturation and attempt to dissect the complex functions of mature DCs in the TME. We highlighted that there is a distinct similarity and heterogeneity of mature DCs in the TME, in which the environment and development are both important. These help us revisit the diversity of DC maturation and to better dissect the complex functions of DCs in the TME.
