    Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is associated with high-grade invasive carcinoma leading to a 10% to 15% death rate in younger premenopausal women.     Abstract The introduction of fish skin as a biological dressing for treating burns and wounds holds great promise, offering an alternative to existing management strategies. However, the risk of disease transmission is a significant concern. Therefore, this study aimed to examine how established sterilization and preservation procedures affected fish skin grafts' microbiological and histological properties for long-term usage. Lyophilization of the fish skin graft followed by rehydration in normal saline for 15 min did not change the collagen content. Furthermore, gamma irradiation of the lyophilized fish skin graft at different lengths 5, 10, and 25 KGy showed a significant reduction in microbial growth (aerobic bacteria, aerobic yeasts, and fungi) at 15- and 30 days after the irradiation. However, exposure to 10 KGy was found to be the most effective intensity among the different gamma irradiation lengths since it preserved the collagen fiber content and intensity in the lyophilized fish skin grafts at 15- and 30 days after the irradiation. These findings provide efficient preservation and sterilization methods for long-term usage of the fresh Tilapia skin grafts used for biological dressings.

    Abstract Background: Forward head posture (FHP) decreases the neck position sense and creates tension in the neck muscles, which inversely affects the mechanics of the distal joints through body myofascia. Thus, this study investigated the effects of FHP on neck and ankle joint position sense, and conducted a comparison between the joint position sense of the right and left ankle.
    Methods: Fifty-seven subjects were assigned according to the craniovertebral angle (CVA) into the FHP group (CVA <49°; n = 27) or the control group (CVA >49°; n = 30). Head and ankle joint repositioning accuracy was measured by using a cervical range-of-motion device and an isokinetic dynamometer, respectively.
    Results: There was a significant increase in the joint position error (JPE) of the cervical flexion, extension, and right and left side bending motions of the FHP group compared to the control group (P < .05). There were significant increases in the JPE of the right and left ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion of the FHP group compared to the healthy group (P < .05). Moreover, the JPE of the right ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion of the FHP group were significantly higher than the left ankle (P < .05).
    Conclusions: The FHP decreases the position sense of cervical flexion, extension, and right and left side bending motions, and the plantarflexion and dorsiflexion of both ankle joints, especially the right ankle joint.

    Abstract Background: Orobanche is an obligate parasite on faba bean in the Mediterranean region, causes considerable yield losses. Breeding tolerant faba bean genotypes to Orobanche is pivotal to sustain production and ensuring global food security, particularly considering the challenges posed by population growth.     Results: The results demonstrated considerable variations among the evaluated genotypes, wide diversity among the parental materials, and heterotic effects for all studied agronomic traits under Orobanche-free and infested soils. Orbanche infestation displayed a significant adverse impact on all the studied agronomic traits. The genotypes Line1, Line2, Line3, and Line5 displayed superior performance under Orobanche-infested conditions and recorded the highest values of all studied agronomic traits. Additionally, Line1, Line2, Line3, Line5, and Line7 exhibited desirable significant GCA for most evaluated traits under the two infestation conditions. The obtained crosses displayed significant negative or positive heterosis for studied agronomic characters such as plant height, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per plant
    Conclusions: The detected genetic diversity within the evaluated faba bean genotypes and their developed crosses exhibits substantial potential for improving faba bean productivity under Orobanche-infested conditions. The parental genotypes, Line1, Line2, Line3, Line5, and Line7, were identified as effective and promising combiners. Moreover, the developed crosses Line2×Sakha3, Line3×Nubaria5, Line7×Nubaria5, Line6×Nubaria1, Line5×Sakha3, Line1×Sakha3, and Line1×Nubaria5 could be considered valuable candidates for developing high-yielding and tolerant faba bean genotypes to Orobanche.

    Abstract Background: Diagnosing hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) (ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and non-ventilator associated pneumonia (Non-VAP)) is still a hot issue. Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is prognostic in critically ill children with sepsis regarding mortality prediction. Our aim was to evaluate suPAR levels in children with HAP.
    Methods: An observational, prospective study was conducted on 45 children diagnosed HAP (VAP and Non-VAP) and 40 healthy controls. Paediatric Sequential Organ Failure assessment Score (pSOFA) was assessed for each patient. Plasma suPAR levels were measured with ELISA on the day of diagnosis.
    Results: On comparison levels of plasma suPAR for the children with HAP with the healthy control group, no statistically significant difference was observed (148 pg/mL (22.4-1939.7) and 184.4 pg/mL (31.6-1311.7), respectively, (p=0.32). suPAR was significantly increased in children with elevated pSOFA score on the day of diagnosis of pneumonia (p=0.034). suPAR was significantly increased in children with shock (p=0.005). suPAR levels was negatively correlated with oxygen saturation (rs=0.31,p=0.048). suPAR was not significantly correlated with C reactive protein.
    Conclusions: suPAR can be used as a predictor for severity of illness in children with HAP. We firmly know that plasma suPAR, a novel marker, could indicate the disease if carried out on larger patient groups.

    Method: This comparative prospective cohort cost-effectiveness study was carried out over 6 months among adult Egyptian hemodialysis patients of either gender. Participants were categorized into two groups based on the type of ESA administered: the Eprex group, receiving epoetin alfa, and the Aranesp group, receiving darbepoetin alfa. These two treatment groups' efficacy, safety, and cost were analyzed and compared.
    Results: Of 127 hemodialysis patients, 60 (47.2%) received Eprex, while 67 (52.8%) were treated with Aranesp. Target hemoglobin (Hb) was achieved by 50.6% of patients in the Eprex group versus 63.4% in the Aranesp group, with a significant difference (
    Conclusion: In hemodialysis Egyptian patients, Aranesp with extended dosing intervals proved to be more effective in achieving target Hb with comparable adverse effect profiles, a substantial cost-saving strategy, and offered time-saving advantages for medical staff workload compared to Eprex.

    Abstract Background: Focal task-specific dystonia is a form of isolated focal dystonia that occurs during the performance of a specific skilled motor task. The occurrence of oromandibular dystonia (OMD) specifically in association with the recitation of Quranic verses have been rarely reported in the literature, in non-native Arabic-speaking patients. This case series describe a rare type of focal task-specific dystonia that occurs exclusively by reciting Quran in native Arabic-speaking patients, which has never been reported, to the best of our knowledge.
    Methods: In this case series, we identified five patients with new-onset OMD that was exclusively induced by reciting Quran. Cases were evaluated in our Movement Disorders outpatient clinic at Ibn Sina hospital; the main tertiary neurology center in Kuwait, between 2015 and 2023.
    Results: Five cases (3 males, 2 females) were identified in this study. Mean age of onset of the symptoms was 52.3 ± 4.1 years, while the median duration of the symptoms prior to diagnosis was 3 years. All patients were native Arab-speaking, with no previous history of other types of dystonia. No identifiable risk factors could be obtained including exposure to dopamine blocking agents or antipsychotics, or history of oral or dental surgery. Patients underwent a full clinical, laboratory, and radiological evaluation. All patients had OMD dystonia in varying forms and severity, while two patients had additional spasmodic dysphonia/ blepharospasm on progressive recitation. Most patients had minimal improvement with combination of oral medications and speech therapy. Four patients received botulinum toxin injections with better results.
    Discussion: The mental and physical stress in attempting to recite the Quranic verses could have contributed to the development of OMD. Moreover, the increased demand on the muscles of the jaw, lips, and tongue during recitation can trigger the dystonic symptoms.
    Highlights: OMD exclusively during Quran recitation is a rare phenomenon, and expands the spectrum of task-specific focal dystonia described in the literature. It was found to be distressing to the patients and a challenge to treat. Prompt recognition could minimize unnecessary testing and procedures, and facilitate earlier treatment.

    Abstract Although different products have been developed to prevent post-surgical adhesion, their efficacy remains unsatisfactory. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the gelatin sponge in the prevention of post-surgical intra-abdominal adhesions in a rat model. Rats were randomly divided into sham, adhesion, and gelatin groups. All rats, except the sham group, underwent cecal abrasion to establish an adhesion model. After celiotomy, a sterile gelatin sponge was applied intra-abdominal on the abraded cecum in the gelatin group. Rats were sacrificed on day 14 post-surgery and intra-abdominal adhesions were evaluated and scored. Adhesion tissues were evaluated by histological, histochemical, and immunohistochemical analysis. Intra-abdominal adhesions were recorded in all rats of the adhesion group. Intra-abdominal application of gelatin sponge significantly (P < 0.001) reduced intra-abdominal adhesions by 91% in the gelatin group relative to the adhesion group. The histological analysis revealed a marked decrease (P < 0.001) in the inflammatory score and neovascularization in the gelatin group. The histochemical analysis found that gelatin sponge administration reduced adhesion formation and thickness of adhesion tissue. Moreover, gelatin sponge significantly (P < 0.0001) increased MMP-9 expression and decreased macrophage marker expression in adhesive tissue. This study revealed that the application of gelatin sponge markedly reduced the post-surgical intra-abdominal adhesions and suggests new guidance for using gelatin sponge as an anti-adhesive substance in clinical practice.
