Abstract The definition of categories in national censuses is object of national and international discussions. It creates socio-political dynamics, giving visibility to the issues discussed, making them more « readable ». In 1991, the Brazilian census included the category « indigenous » in its questionnaire, changing the description of the ethnic-racial composition of the Brazilian population. The purpose of this article is to analyze the context of the inclusion of this category in the census. It also explores some of the controversies that arose during the census operations and the publication of their results.

Abstract The definition of categories in national Censuses is object of national and international disputes and socio-political dynamics, generating visibility and "legibility" to the issues represented therein. In 1991, the Brazilian Census included the category "indigenous" in its questionnaire, changing the description of the ethnic-racial composition of the Brazilian population. Thus, the objective of this article is to reflect on the context of the inclusion of the indigenous category in the 1991 Census and its reception, investigating some of the controversies generated in relation to the census operation and results generated by the census.

Abstract Construction is known as one of the most dangerous industries in terms of worker safety. Collisions due the excessive proximity of workers to moving construction vehicles are one of the leading causes of fatal and non-fatal accidents on construction sites internationally. Proximity warning systems (PWS) have been proposed in the literature as a solution to detect the risk for collision and to alert workers and equipment operators in time to prevent collisions. Although the role of sensing technologies for situational awareness has been recognised in previous studies, several factors still need to be considered. This paper describes the design of a prototype sensor-based PWS, aimed mainly at small and medium-sized construction companies, to collect real-time data directly from construction sites and to warn workers of a potential risk of collision accidents. It considers, in an integrated manner, factors such as cost of deployment, the actual nature of a construction site as an operating environment and data protection. A low-cost, ultra-wideband (UWB)-based proximity detection system has been developed that can operate with or without fixed anchors. In addition, the PWS is compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. A privacy-by-design approach has been adopted and privacy mechanisms have been used for data protection. Future work could evaluate the PWS in real operational conditions and incorporate additional factors for its further development, such as studies on the timely interpretation of data.

Abstract Background: Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading cause of acute lower respiratory tract infection among infants and young children worldwide, with seasonal peaks in January and February. This study aimed to characterize the RSV samples from a pediatric cohort in the 2021-2022 season in Italy.
Methods: In total, 104 samples were collected from pediatric patients attending the "Vittore Buzzi" Children's Hospital in Milan, Italy in the 2021-2022 season. RT-PCR and next-generation sequencing were used to discriminate subgroups and obtain whole genomes. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic methods were used to analyze Italian sequences in the European contest and date Italian clusters.
Results: The median age was 78 days, and 76.9% of subjects required hospitalization, with a higher proportion of patients under 3 months of age. An equal proportion of subgroups A (GA2.3.5) and B (GB5.0.5a) was found, with significant differences in length of hospitalization, days of supplemental oxygen treatment, and intravenous hydration duration. Phylogeny highlighted 26 and 37 clusters containing quite the total of Italian sequences for RSV-A and -B, respectively. Clusters presented a tMRCA between December 2011-February 2017 and May 2014-December 2016 for A and B subgroups, respectively. Compared to European sequences, specific mutations were observed in Italian strains.
Conclusion: These data confirmed a more severe clinical course of RSV-A, particularly in young children. This study permitted the characterization of recent Italian RSV whole genomes, highlighting the peculiar pattern of mutations that needs to be investigated further and monitored.

Abstract Background: Elder abuse is currently a worldwide problem. The literature reports that one elderly person out of six is a potential victim.
Aims: To analyse cases reported to the judicial authorities in the territory of Genoa in the period 2010-2019, to investigate the features of elder abuse, to assess the trend of this phenomenon and to propose preventive strategies.
Methods: We analysed the data on reports of abuse passed by the Court of Genoa in the period 2015-2019 concerning physical and mental maltreatment, abandonment and financial exploitation of elderly subjects. These data were compared with those recorded in the previous 5-year period and in the literature.
Results: In the period 2015-2019, 156 cases of elder abuse were identified (versus 63 in the previous period): 18 cases of domestic violence, 5 cases of abuse of the means of correction, 18 cases of caregiver neglect, 76 cases of physical injury and 39 cases of financial exploitation.
Discussion: Abuse was seen to be perpetrated most frequently in the domestic setting and by the victims' relatives. The main risk factors were female gender and the victim's dependence on others, the maltreating subject's mental illness and substance abuse.
Conclusions: We documented a progressive increase in the number of abuses reported to the judicial authority; this reflects greater awareness of the problem. However, our figures remained well below the incidence estimated in the literature. It is necessary to train healthcare personnel to identify and manage cases of suspected abuse, and to provide adequate support in situations at risk.

Abstract A COVID-19, doença causada pelo SARS-CoV-2 é considerada uma crise global de saúde pública, iniciou-se em março de 2020.
