    Abstract Objective: To explore the effects of joy and sorrow on pulse-graph parameters in healthy subjects and analyze their potential effect to provide preliminary evidence that pulse diagnosis can identify human emotional changes.
    Design and intervention: Forty healthy female college students from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine were recruited. The emotion-evoking experiment was conducted to observe the effects of joy and sorrow on pulse-graph parameters, taking neutral emotion as a control. The experiment included the following criteria. (1) Emotions evoked and evaluated: the same subjects watched three emotional videos which were, respectively, neutral, joyful and sorrowful to evoke the corresponding emotions. They completed the "subjective emotion evaluation form" (SEEF) before watching each video (T
    Results: When watching the joy video, the rapid ejection phase extended significantly, both the left ventricular diastole and the cardiac cycle shortened significantly. When watching the sorrow video, the left ventricular diastole extended significantly, the cardiac cycle showed an upward trend, and heart rate showed a downward trend.
    Conclusion: Joy and sorrow have a certain effect on pulse-graph parameters of the subjects. The mechanisms may be that joy contributes to rapid ejection phase extension and a shortening of the left ventricular diastole and the cardiac cycle, while sorrow extends the left ventricular diastole. According to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the visceral functions can be mediated through human qi flow. Moderate joy and sorrow can promote, respectively, the smooth qi flow of the heart and the lung. However, excessive or long-term joy and sorrow can lead to disharmonious qi flow of the two viscera. Therefore, maintaining moderate emotions is beneficial to the physiological functions of the viscera. Great emotional fluctuations may damage the visceral functions. Future studies with effects of other emotions on pulse-graph parameters are warranted to determine the reliability of the association of emotions and pulse diagnosis.

    Abstract Topical medications represent the most commonly used drugs in the treatment of psoriasis. However, topical steroids are mainly limited to short-term or intermittent use, and traditional non-steroidal topicals such as vitamin D analogues, topical calcineurin inhibitors, and topical retinoids are limited by low efficacy and poor local skin tolerability. Tapinarof (GSK2894512, DMVT-505) is a novel, topical aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) agonist, which was recently approved by the FDA for the treatment of plaque psoriasis in adults. Tapinarof acts to improve psoriasis through diminished IL-17A production by CD4+ T cells, increased barrier gene expression in keratinocytes, and reduced production of reactive oxygen species. Both short-term and long-term efficacy and safety have been evaluated in two Phase II and two Phase III (PSOARING 1 and 2) clinical trials in addition to a long-term extension study (PSOARING 3). Overall, the drug has shown beneficial effects in achieving clear skin in adults with moderate-to-severe psoriasis, good local tolerability, and also a long duration of effect even after discontinuation of the drug. Therefore, this therapy provides a new, highly effective and safe non-steroidal option to add to our psoriasis treatment toolbox for both initial clearance and long-term maintenance of disease.

    Abstract Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated skin condition with significant detriments to physical/mental health. While systemic therapies are available for the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis, patients can experience therapeutic failure, loss of efficacy, or medical contraindications that require other therapeutic options.
    Objective: With the recent approval of deucravacitinib, a first-in-class TYK2 small molecule inhibitor administered orally for psoriasis patients, we reviewed data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to synthesize its clinical utility. To our knowledge, this is the first systematic review and meta-analysis of deucravacitinib comparing its clinical efficacy to placebo in psoriasis.
    Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed (MEDLINE), Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials to identify RCTs studying deucravacitinib in human patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis.
    Results: One placebo-controlled Phase II RCT and two placebo-controlled/active-comparator Phase III RCTs were included for review. Patients (N=1953) treated with deucravacitinib 6 mg daily showed marked improvement in disease severity (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI), static Physician Global Assessment (sPGA) and quality-of-life outcomes compared to patients administered comparator (apremilast) and placebo. Clinical improvement given deucravacitinib was noted for scalp psoriasis but not fingernail psoriasis. Meta-analysis (deucravacitinib, n=888; placebo, n=466) comparing rates of clearance (sPGA 0/1) demonstrated superior efficacy of deucravacitinib compared to placebo (odds ratio, 12.87; 95% confidence interval, 8.97-18.48;
    Conclusion: Deucravacitinib possesses good efficacy, with no report of safety concerns associated with prior JAK inhibitors used for psoriasis. Meta-analysis demonstrated deucravacitinib's superiority compared to placebo, indicating its promising clinical utility. Further studies are needed to observe long-term safety and efficacy, and to compare deucravacitinib to existing treatments.

    Abstract Psoriasis vulgaris is a systemic, chronic inflammatory disease affecting 2-3% of the population. Recent advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology of psoriatic disease have facilitated the development of novel therapeutic options with improved safety and efficacy. This article is coauthored by a patient with a lifelong history of psoriasis who experienced multiple treatment failures. He details his diagnosis and treatment experiences, as well as the physical, mental, and social ramifications of his skin condition. He then goes on to elaborate how evolutions in the treatment of psoriatic disease have impacted his life. This case is then discussed from the perspective of a dermatologist specializing in inflammatory skin disorders. We highlight the clinical features of psoriasis, its medical and psychosocial comorbidities, and the current landscape of psoriatic disease treatments.

    Abstract Psoriasis (PSO) and psoriatic arthritis (PSA) are inflammatory diseases with complex genetic and environmental contributions. Although studies have identified environmental and clinical associations with PSO/PSA, causality is difficult to establish. Mendelian randomization (MR) employs the random assortment of genetic alleles at birth to evaluate the causal impact of exposures. We systematically reviewed 27 MR studies in PSO/PSA examining health behaviors, comorbidities, and biomarkers. Exposures, including smoking, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and Crohn's disease, were causal for PSO and PSA, whereas PSO was causally associated with several comorbidities. These findings provide insights that can guide preventive counseling and precision medicine.

    Abstract Despite the efficacy, safety, and availability of COVID-19 vaccines, a lack of awareness and trust of vaccine safety research remains an important barrier to public health. The goal of this research was to design and test online meta-summaries-transparent, interactive summaries of the state of relevant studies-to improve people's awareness and opinion of vaccine safety research. We used insights from a set of co-design interviews (n = 22) to develop meta-summaries to highlight metascientific information about vaccine safety research. An experiment with 863 unvaccinated participants showed that our meta-summaries increased participants' perception of the amount, consistency, and direction of vaccine safety research relative to the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) webpage, and that participants found them more trustworthy than the CDC page as well. They were also more likely to discuss it with others in the week following. We conclude that direct summaries of scientific research can be a useful communication tool for controversial scientific topics.
