Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the reduction of patients' bed rest time after percutaneous renal biopsy (PRB) from 24 to 8 h using the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC).
Methods: This was a randomized clinical trial registered with Clinical Trials number NCT04629235. The sample comprised 16 patients in the intervention group and 18 in the control group. In the intervention group, the rest time was modified to 8 h, and afterward, the patients were released to ambulate, whereas the control patients remained at absolute rest for 24 h after PRB according to institutional protocol. All patients were observed for 24 h and evaluated at five time points with the outcomes and indicators of the NOC: before the biopsy, immediately after, at the 8th hour, at the 12th hour, and at the 24th hour after the procedure.
Results: In the 170 evaluations performed, statistically significant differences were identified in the outcome Comfort status: physical and the indicators "physical well-being and comfortable position." None of the complications were related to reduced bed rest time.
Conclusions: Reducing patients' bed rest time from 24 to 8 h did not increase complications from PRB, and using the NOC provided a standardized and reliable assessment.
Implications for nursing practice: Important evidence was identified for patient care after PRB, demonstrating the positive impact on patient comfort and the possibility of reducing costs to the institution and the workload of the multidisciplinary team. In addition, these findings may contribute to strengthening the use of NOC in clinical practice, teaching, and research.

Abstract The evidence of climate change has increased the necessity for actions to avoid severe consequences for future generations. Recognising the benefits of sustainable and energy-efficient buildings has led to the development of several methods to estimate and rate the performance of building. Healthcare buildings are functional and dynamic structures that support their occupants’ healing processes and comfort. They have a significant role in society and specific goals in merging their strategic planning requirements (cost reduction, regulatory compliance, social responsibility, and performance improvement) with Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, this paper addresses critical issues regarding the sustainability of the Brazilian healthcare sector by analysing the suitability of the most common international healthcare building sustainability assessment methods to the specific social, economic, and environmental contexts of the Brazilian healthcare sector. The paper analyses the HBSAtool-PT, a sustainability assessment method developed for this type of building, and identifies the possibilities for adapting to the Brazilian context. As a result, this research proposes a framework to assess the sustainability of healthcare buildings in Brazil. In the framework’s definition, a survey was conducted to determine the opinion of building stakeholders regarding the importance of indicators. A weighing system for the proposed sustainability indicators was developed using the AHP method.

Abstract The Limpopo estuary mangrove forest covers about 928 ha; however, 382 ha remain intact, and 546 ha were degraded after the 2000 floods. Mangrove replanting campaigns were carried out at the site. This study assesses the ability of restored forests to provide carbon storage functions. The results showed that A. marina was the dominant species in all study areas. The carbon reserve of living biomass above and below ground in the natural forest was 67.9 ± 100.9 MgCha −1 and 65.0 ± 77.1 MgC ha −1 , respectively; in the planted forests (2016, 2014, 2010), it was 1.1 ± 0.5 MgCha −1 and 2.1 ± 1.0 MgCha −1 , 1.8 ± 1.0 MgCha −1 and 3.6 ± 2.0 MgCha −1 , 3.7 ± 2.0 MgCha −1 and 5.3 ± 2.5 MgCha −1 . Soil carbon reserve was 229.4 ± 119.4 MgCha −1 in natural forest and 230.3 ± 134.8 MgCha −1 , 234.8 ± 132.7 MgC ha −1 , 229.4 ± 119.4 MgCha −1 in planted forests (2016, 2014, 2010). The total carbon reserve in the natural forest was 362.3 MgCha −1

and 233.5 MgCha −1 , 240.2 MgCha −1 and 246.4 MgCha −1 in the planted forests (2016, 2014, 2010), respectively. Natural and restored forests had similar amounts of soil carbon, which reinforces the idea that soil is a stable carbon pool. Moreover, restored forests failed to store the same amount of live biomass (carbon), which supports the idea that it is better to prevent habitat degradation than to restore it.

Abstract Background: Informal caregivers (IC) play an important role in the community as health care providers for people who are dependent on self-care. Health literacy contributes to empowerment, better care, and self-management of one's own health and can be developed using digital technologies.
Objective: This study aims to map scientific evidence about the use of digital technologies to promote health literacy and the empowerment of ICs.
Methods: We conducted a scoping review following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. The CINAHL, MEDLINE, Scopus, and PubMed databases were searched to find primary studies on the theme. Inclusion criteria were based on the Population, Concept, and Context logic. To be selected for analysis, studies must have involved informal or family caregivers aged ≥18 years who provide care to dependent persons and who have access to the internet and digital devices (computer, smartphone, and tablet). A total of 2 independent researchers (SS and LVH) performed the screening process. This study is part of a main project that was approved by the Ethics Committee for Health of the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Tagus Valley (reference 058/CES/INV/2022).
Results: A total of 9 studies were included in the review. The analysis of the studies showed that ICs use digital tools, such as computers and smartphones, with smartphones being the preferred tool. ICs use the internet to access information; manage home tasks; communicate with relatives, their peers, and health care professionals; and take part in forums. Due to difficulties in leaving their houses, forums are highly valued to preserve human connections.
Conclusions: The use of digital technologies to convey clear, objective, reliable, and accessible information is a strategic action for promoting health literacy and for contemplating the variable care needs of ICs. By working with ICs in the development of new technologies, researchers are building a new tool that meets ICs' needs.

Abstract Introduction: The recognition of the Rights of Nature has been established though several constitutional, legislative, and judicial enactments, which aim to provide legal protection for non-humans’ entities and natural systems. Although some countries have made progress in recognizing the rights of nature, the prevailing assumption remains that nature is a resource to be exploited for human benefit. In the context of ecological transition debates, it is important to understand how the European legal system perceives Nature and its rights. Achieving a significant shift in legal and cultural norms that prioritize nature’s protection may be challenging. Methods: This paper reports on research conducted in a sample of 6 countries within the PHOENIX consortium, a European H2020 project that aims to develop participatory methodologies and democratic innovations to facilitate the ecological transition as envisioned by the European Green Deal, whose objective was to find out how these countries embodied the Rights of nature into their legal systems, both at constitutional level and at the level of environmental and related laws and policies. Results: The results indicate that in legislative terms, concepts of nature are absent, and instead, the term environment or natural resources are used. Furthermore, rights of nature are rarely recognized in all countries, with anthropocentric and in instrumental views prevailing. In contrast, the human right to Nature is widely recognized in all countries, referring to the right of all individuals to access to and live in a healthy environment.Discussion: Despite the importance of the human right to Nature as a matter of equity and justice, failure to recognise the rights of nature and protect/respect its limits may constitute a potential barrier to ecological transition.

Abstract The direct magnetic sorbent sampling flame atomic absorption spectrometry (DMSS-FAAS), recently proposed by our research group, was applied to determine the lead in soy-based juice, whole grape juice, reconstituted grape juice, and orange nectar samples. A dispersive solid phase extraction (d-SPE) of lead was carried out using a magnetic orange peel powder, developed and optimized by Gupta et al (2012), that was inserted into flame by FAAS with a magnetic probe. Abstract This topic dates back to the end of the 18th century, when Portugal and Spain tried to define their colonial borders in South America. The setting is a fluvial and lacustrine area within South America currently known as Pantanal. This article studies the passage of the Portuguese naturalist expedition named “Philosophical Journey” through Pantanal and its relation with another expedition, also Portuguese, that was carried out some years before to demarcate the borders, visiting and mapping the same area. The encounter between the naturalist caravan and a group of the indigenous warrior people of the Guaikuru is noteworthy; this episode is described in texts, with graphical representations of the chiefs. It is interesting to observe the relations that existed between expeditions and between these and the indigenous peoples to illustrate how Portugal used enlightened knowledge to conquer and expand the boundaries of its territories in South America, using science as a strategic practice.
