Abstract: ... therapeutic agents for NAFLD. Lian-Mei-Yin (LMY) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used for decades ...

Abstract Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease, with a global prevalence of 25%. Patients with NAFLD are more likely to suffer from advanced liver disease, cardiovascular disease, or type II diabetes. However, unfortunately, there is still a shortage of FDA-approved therapeutic agents for NAFLD. Lian-Mei-Yin (LMY) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used for decades to treat liver disorders. It has recently been applied to type II diabetes which is closely related to insulin resistance. Given that NAFLD is another disease involved in insulin resistance, we hypothesize that LMY might be a promising formula for NAFLD therapy. Herein, we verify that the LMY formula effectively reduces hepatic steatosis in diet-induced zebrafish and NAFLD model mice in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Mechanistically, LMY suppresses Yap1-mediated Foxm1 activation, which is crucial for the occurrence and development of NAFLD. Consequently, lipogenesis is ameliorated by LMY administration. In summary, the LMY formula alleviates diet-induced NAFLD in zebrafish and mice by inhibiting Yap1/Foxm1 signaling-mediated NAFLD pathology.

Abstract This study aimed at the large scale factors contributing to the extreme Mei-Yu rainfall in the East Asia in recent decades by the observation and CMIP 6 simulation. The potential effect of SST warming trends was assessed by comparing the 2020 event with a 1998 extreme event. The results revealed that a record North Indian Ocean (NIO) SST induced anomalous overturning and horizontal circulations in the Indo–western Pacific region, which played a crucial role in maintaining the extreme Mei-Yu rainfall. A major upward SST trend in the NIO was identified, and it accounted for approximately 40% of the total SST variance in 2020; this phenomenon was not identified in the 1998 event. Furthermore, a significant upward precipitation trend was observed in the Mei-Yu region that contributed approximately 15% of the total rainfall. The role of warming trends in amplifying the extreme Mei-Yu rainfall was further verified through Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project–type experiments and the air–sea fully coupled simulations of Climate Model Intercomparison Project 6. The observations and simulations yielded consistent results, indicating that a warming trend contributed substantially to the record event in 2020. The 2020 event reflects the presence of a warming trend, which was not observed in the 1998 extreme event.

Abstract There are various titles applied for "sleepless", including mu bu ming (unclosed eyes), bu de mian (unable to sleep), bu de wo (unable to lie down), shi mian (insomnia). The implications of the titles vary according to different periods. Bu de wo (unable to lie down) was first appeared in Zu bi shi yi mai jiu jing (Moxibustion Classic of Foot and Arm Eleven Channels) and Yin yang shi yi mai jiu jing (Moxibustion Classic of Yin-Yang Eleven Channels), while bu de wo, mu bu ming, and ye bu mei were appeared in Huang di nei jing (Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor), bu mei was first seen in Nan jing (Classic of Questioning). When bu de mian and bu de wo were applied in Zhang Zhongjing's Shang han lun (Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases) and Jin kui yao lue (Synopsis of Golden Chamber), it exerted good influence in later generations. The title of bu mei was more popular after the Ming and Qing dynasties. This titles is the most appropriate one from the standpoint of syndrome itself as viewed from its semantic implication and its accuracy.

Abstract Nanocrystalline MEI- and BPH-type zeolites, denoted as PST-11 and PST-12, respectively, have been synthesized using both tetraethylammonium and tetramethylammonium ions, the two simplest alkylammonium species, in the presence of Li(+) and Sr(2+). PST-12 formation is the first example of a combination of forced and multiple cooperative structure-directions in the charge density mismatch synthesis of zeolites.

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been implicated in cell-cycle regulation and in some cases shown to have a role in tissue growth control. Depletion of miRNAs was found to have an effect on tissue growth rates in the wing primordium of Drosophila, a highly proliferative epithelium. Dicer-1 (Dcr-1) is a double-stranded RNAseIII essential for miRNA biogenesis. Adult cells lacking dcr-1, or with reduced dcr-1 activity, were smaller than normal cells and gave rise to smaller wings. dcr-1 mutant cells showed evidence of being susceptible to competition by faster growing cells in vivo and the miRNA machinery was shown to promote G(1)-S transition. We present evidence that Dcr-1 acts by regulating the TRIM-NHL protein Mei-P26, which in turn regulates dMyc protein levels. Mei-P26 is a direct target of miRNAs, including the growth-promoting bantam miRNA. Thus, regulation of tissue growth by the miRNA pathway involves a double repression mechanism to control dMyc protein levels in a highly proliferative and growing epithelium.
