    Abstract Payments for ecosystem services (PES) provide innovative solutions for global environmental governance. China, the largest developing country, always faces severe ecological and environmental problems. China created an eco-compensation mechanism that combines the PES mechanism with the government's standardized management, which has achieved remarkable results. Government-led, social participation, and market-oriented operation are its main characteristics. More importantly, the mechanism helps China achieve its anti-poverty goals. Part of its experiences has been transformed into formal institutions, i.e., farmland fallow and rotation policies. However, some problems have also plagued further development, such as the lack of environmental property rights, the single source of funds, and the shortage of standardized ecological value assessment technology. We suggest that it is necessary to improve the stability of China's eco-compensation mechanism. The achievement of China's eco-compensation mechanism provides helpful guidance for other developing countries. For example, it is enhancing the role of government administrative power and the flexibility of the system through the policy "sandbox," i.e., the policy pilot, encouraging the participation of multi-stakeholder groups, and so on. Last but most important, the policy and institutions must be closely integrated with the nation's state for it to be sustainable.

    Abstract Objective: This study aimed to investigate the potential molecular mechanism of SPDEF in immune evasion of colorectal cancer (CRC) and examine its impact on macrophage M2 polarization using the TCGA and GEO databases.
    Methods: By combining TCGA and GEO databases, differential gene expression between CRC samples and standard tissue samples was analyzed to screen for immune-related genes (IRGs) associated with the prognosis of CRC patients. A predictive risk model was constructed based on 18 key IRGs, which were then validated using the GEO dataset. The relationship between transcription factors and IRGs was further explored to investigate their regulatory network in CRC. In vivo and in vitro experiments were carried out to validate these regulatory relationships and explore the function of SPDEF and CCL28 in CRC.
    Results: Twelve key IRGs associated with clinical and pathological characteristics of CRC patients were identified. Among them, CCL28 significantly impacted macrophage infiltration in CRC cells and may be a critical factor in immune evasion. In both in vitro and in vivo experiments, overexpression of SPDEF upregulated CCL28 expression, thereby suppressing M2 polarization of macrophages and inhibiting CRC cell proliferation and tumor growth. Notably, interference with CCL28 could reverse the effect of SPDEF overexpression.
    Conclusion: SPDEF can suppress immune evasion of CRC cells by activating CCL28, which is achieved through the modulation of M2 polarization of macrophages. This provides a new research direction and potential therapeutic target for immunotherapy in CRC.

    Abstract To determine whether sarcoplasmic proteins affected water migration in myofibrils during air-drying, with protein denaturation as an indicator of sarcoplasmic protein changes, the extent of sarcoplasmic protein changes in lamb during air-drying was first studied. The results showed that sarcoplasmic protein's thermal stability decreased and secondary structure changed, indicating sarcoplasmic protein denatured in lamb during air-drying (35 °C, 60% RH, 3 m/s wind speed). Subsequently, the effect of sarcoplasmic protein solutions, dried at different times and rates, on myofibril protein-water interaction was studied in vitro. Two sets of sarcoplasmic protein solutions were dried for 0, 3, 6, and 9 h in a drying oven, resulting in different degrees of change. These two sets with higher or lower drying rates were achieved by controlling the contact area between sarcoplasmic protein solution and air.     Abstract Background: The prevention and prediction of sudden cardiac death (SCD) present persistent challenges, prompting exploration into common genetic variations for potential insights. T-box 5 (TBX5), a critical cardiac transcription factor, plays a pivotal role in cardiovascular development and function. This study systematically examined variants within the 500-bp region downstream of the TBX5 gene, focusing on their potential impact on susceptibility to SCD associated with coronary artery disease (SCD-CAD) in four different Chinese Han populations.
    Methods: In a comprehensive case-control analysis, we explored the association between rs11278315 and SCD-CAD susceptibility using a cohort of 553 controls and 201 SCD-CAD cases. Dual luciferase reporter assays and genotype-phenotype correlation studies using human cardiac tissue samples as well as integrated in silicon analysis were applied to explore the underlining mechanism.
    Result: Binary logistic regression results underscored a significantly reduced risk of SCD-CAD in individuals harboring the deletion allele (odds ratio = 0.70, 95% CI [0.55-0.88],
    Conclusions: In summary, our current dataset points to a plausible correlation between rs11278315 and susceptibility to SCD-CAD, emphasizing the potential of rs11278315 as a genetic risk marker for aiding in molecular diagnosis and risk stratification of SCD-CAD.

    Abstract To better understand the functional mechanism of four types of tea (green tea, black tea, jasmine tea, and dark tea) on the quality of stewed beef, changes in quality characteristics, proteomics, and metabolomics were investigated. Adding these four tea types decreased the pH value, L* value, shear force, and hardness of the stewed beef. Among these groups, black tea (BT) significantly improved the tenderness of the stewed beef. They have substantially impacted pathways related to protein oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid degradation, amino acid degradation, and peroxisomes in stewed beef. The study identified that Myosin-2, Starch binding domain 1, Heat shock protein beta-6, and Myosin heavy chain four are significantly correlated with the quality characteristics of tea-treated stewed beef, making them potential biomarkers. Green tea (GT), black tea (BT), jasmine tea (JT), and dark tea (DT) led to the downregulation of 20, 36, 38, and 31 metabolites, respectively, which are lipids and lipid-like molecules in the stewed beef. The co-analysis of proteomics and metabolomics revealed that differential proteins significantly impacted metabolites associated with carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids, and other nutrients. This study determined the effects of four types of tea on the quality of stewed beef and their underlying mechanisms, providing valuable insights for applying of tea in meat products. At the same time, it can offer new ideas for developing fresh meat products.
