Abstract | Biographical note: Paul Leicester Ford (1865-1902) was an American historian, novelist, and bibliographer. He is the author of The True George Washington and Essays on the Constitution of the United States, among other works. Michael Zuckerman is Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of Peaceable Kingdoms: New England Towns in the Eighteenth Century and coeditor with Willem Koops of Beyond the Century of the Child: Cultural History and Developmental Psychology, also available from the University of Pennsylvania Press. Main description: In 1821, at the age of seventy-seven, Thomas Jefferson decided to "state some recollections of dates and facts concerning myself." The Autobiography of Thomas Jefferson, introduced here by historian Michael Zuckerman, gives us a glimpse into the private life and associations of one of America's most influential personalities. |
