Abstract Background: The RefleXion X1 is a novel radiotherapy delivery system on a ring gantry equipped with fan-beam kV-CT and PET imaging subsystems. The day-to-day scanning variability of radiomics features must be evaluated before any attempt to utilize radiomics features.
Purpose: This study aims to characterize the repeatability and reproducibility of radiomic features produced by the RefleXion X1 kV-CT.
Materials and methods: The Credence Cartridge Radiomics (CCR) phantom includes six cartridges of varied materials. It was scanned 10 times on the RefleXion X1 kVCT imaging subsystem over a 3-month period using the two most frequently used scanning protocols (BMS and BMF). Fifty-five radiomic features were extracted for each ROI on each CT scan and analyzed using LifeX software. The coefficient of variation (COV) was computed to evaluate the repeatability. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) were used to evaluate the repeatability and reproducibility of the scanned images using 0.9 as the threshold. This process is repeated on a GE PET-CT scanner using several built-in protocols as a comparison.
Results: On average, 87% of the features on both scan protocols on the RefleXion X1 kVCT imaging subsystem can be considered repeatable as they met COV < 10% criteria. On GE PET-CT, this number is similar at 86%. When we tighten the criteria to COV <5%, the RefleXion X1 kVCT imaging subsystem showed much better repeatability with 81% of features on average whereas GE PET-CT showed only 73.5% on average. About 91% and 89% of the features with ICC > 0.9 respectively for BMS and BMF protocols on RefleXion X1. On the other hand, the percentage of features with ICC > 0.9 on GE PET-CT ranges from 67% to 82%. The RefleXion X1 kVCT imaging subsystem showed excellent intra-scanner reproducibility between the scanning protocols much better than the GE PET CT scanner. For the inter-scanner reproducibility, the percentage of features with CCC > 0.9 ranged from 49% to 80%. between X1 and GE PET-CT scanning protocols.
Conclusions: Clinically useful CT radiomic features produced by the RefleXion X1 kVCT imaging subsystem are reproducible and stable over time, demonstrating its utility as a quantitative imaging platform.

Abstract This study targeted a four-bed ward with a ventilation system and a four-way cassette fan coil unit (4-way FCU) installed on the ceiling. The indoor air quality under summer and winter conditions was comparatively analyzed. The age of air was calculated by conducting tests and simulations under diverse conditions, assuming that the ventilation system and 4-way FCU were continuously operating. The use of an air cleaner and ward curtain was investigated for its impact on the air quality in the breathing zone of a patient lying on the bed, and effects of the airflow and discharge angle of the 4-way FCU were considered. Because the 4-way FCU was installed in the central part of the ceiling, where indoor air is sucked in and subsequently discharged in four directions, the age of air at each bed was found to vary depending on the airflow and discharge angle of the 4-way FCU. When the airflow and discharge angle of the 4-way FCU was fixed, the age of air at each bed appeared to be lower during winter heating than in summer cooling mode. The age of air was significantly lowered at each bed, depending on the use of the curtain and the air cleaner along with the ventilation system and 4-way FCU, and appropriate seasonal operating conditions were identified to maintain a lower age of air at each bed.

Abstract The origin of alluvial fans at the drainage basin or the margins of the arid sedimentary basin on the northeastern Tibetan Plateau (NETP) has been a focus of debate among scientific communities. Extensive alluvial fans had developed in the mountain-basin systems of this region during the late Pleistocene. Based on geomorphic/stratigraphic studies and the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) chronology, we investigated numerous alluvial sequences in the drainage basin of the coupled mountain-basin system on the NETP. Sedimentologic analyses showed that these alluvial sediments mainly comprise crudely meter and decimeter beds of fanglomerate and sandy lenticles, which occasionally contain boulders in the thinner layers. OSL dating results showed that the alluvial sediments were mainly developed during the late MIS 5, MIS 3, and Last Glaciation and Deglaciation (maximum aggradations), while little had occurred during the early Holocene. Comparing our ages and their probability density curves with those of glacial advances from the northeastern/eastern TP, the consistency of both records during different stages since the late Pleistocene suggested that the development of alluvial fans was driven by glacier activities, which yielded abundant outwash, feeding alluvial aggradations. Based on this finding, together with results of previous studies, we argued that the dynamics of alluvial geomorphic processes had a paleoclimatic origin rather than surface uplifts. Further studies indicated that the precipitation of glaciations originated from the ISM northward intrusion during the late MIS 5, MIS 3, and Holocene; however, it was mainly influenced by the westerlies during the Last Glaciation and Deglaciation. Therefore, the development of alluvial fans on the NETP represents coupling signals of the ISM and the westerlies on the interglacial–glacial cycle timescales. The coupling evolution of glacier activities and alluvial aggradations in the drainage basins of mountain-basin systems on the NETP provides a model for ...

Abstract The combined radiant floor and fan coil cooling (RFCAFC) system is widely used due to its high comfort and large energy saving potential. In this study, as an example, the combined RFCAFC system was studied in a high humidity environment in Jinan, Shandong Province, China. Days with similar outdoor meteorological conditions were grouped, and the comfort level and other evaluation indicators. The RFCAFC had good energy efficiency and comfort when the room was in a high humidity environment. This study showed that the radiant floor surface temperature uniformity coefficient (S) fluctuated between 0.7 and 1.0. The proportion of the total cooling capacity contributed by fan coil cooling under low temperature and high humidity (LH) is 68.0%. The combined cooling system used the LH operating strategy, the PMV value fluctuated from 0.12 to 0.49. Based on this study, the following recommendations for the combined cooling system can be made: (1) When the outdoor humidity is high, the radiant floor system should be turned on early to provide cooling capacity. (2) The operation strategy of the combined cooling system must be able to respond in real time to changes in outdoor meteorological conditions to prevent discomfort in times of extreme heat or humidity.

Abstract This study aimed to establish an experimental system to strengthen the popularization of flat-plate solar air collectors. Flat-plate solar collectors have been studied for years, but economic researches based on energy grade are insufficient. Using the analogical principle of fan, the relationship between the air mass flow rate and the power consumption of a fan was built. Taking net heat production and economy as the criteria, the influence of air mass flow rate on the collector system was studied. The relative coefficient of the energy grade, which can provide a balance point between the power and the heat for the net production analysis of the system, was defined. The heat production benefits and the power consumption costs were used to evaluate the experimental system using four cities as examples. On the basis of this evaluation method, the impact of energy grade on the economics of the system was studied.

Abstract: ... the spatial and temporal details of land subsidence in the Choushui River alluvial fan (CRAF), Taiwan ...

Abstract Land subsidence is a significant problem around the world that can increase the risk of flooding, damage to infrastructure, and economic loss. Hence, the continual monitoring of subsidence is important for early detection, mechanism understanding, countermeasure implementation, and deformation prediction. In this study, we used multiple-sensor observations from the Continuous Global Positioning System (CGPS), the small baseline subset (SBAS) algorithm, interferometric synthetic-aperture radar (InSAR), precise leveling, multi-layer compaction monitoring wells (MLCWs), and groundwater observation wells (GWs) to show the spatial and temporal details of land subsidence in the Choushui River alluvial fan (CRAF), Taiwan, from 1993 to 2019. The results showed that significant land subsidence has occurred along the coastal areas in the CRAF, and most of the inland subsidence areas have also experienced higher subsidence rates (>30 mm/yr). The analysis of subsidence along the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) revealed a newly formed subsidence center between Tuku and Yuanchang Townships in Yunlin, with high subsidence rates ranging from 30 to 70 mm/yr. We propose a map showing, for the first time, the distribution of deep compactions occurring below 300 m depth in the CRAF.

Abstract Radiation pneumonitis (RP) is a common complication for radiotherapy of esophageal cancer and is associated with the low dose irradiated lung volume. This study aims to reduce the mean lung dose (MLD) and the relative lung volume at 20 Gy (V 20) and at low dose region using various designs of the fan-shaped complete block (FSCB) in helical tomotherapy. Hypothetical esophageal tumor was delineated on an anthropomorphic phantom. The FSCB was defined as the fan-shaped radiation restricted area located in both lungs. Seven treatment plans were performed with nonblock design and FSCB with different fan angles, that is, from 90° to 140°, with increment of 10°. The homogeneous index, conformation number, MLD, and the relative lung volume receiving more than 5, 10, 15, and 20 Gy (V 5, V 10, V 15, and V 20) were determined for each treatment scheme. There was a substantial reduction in the MLD, V 5, V 10, V 15, and V 20 when using different types of FSCB as compared to the nonblock design. The reduction of V 20, V 15, V 10, and V 5 was 6.3%-8.6%, 16%-23%, 42%-57%, and 42%-66% for FSCB 90°-140°, respectively. The use of FSCB in helical tomotherapy is a promising method to reduce the MLD, V 20, and relative lung volume in low dose region, especially in V 5 and V 10 for esophageal cancer.
