Abstract The paper portrays the origins and ideological foundations of NSZZ “Solidarity” (Independent Self-governing Trade Union “Solidarity”) and their meaning in social life at the time of the communist regime in PRL (Polish People’s Republic). There are references to strikes (June ‘56 in Poznan, polish March ’68, June ’76, July ’80 in Lublin and Swidnica and August ’80) and, in 1980, the creation of Inter-Enterprise Strike Committee, which developed and published 21 demands aimed at the authorities. In the study, it is acknowledged that those demands are the ideological sources of Solidarity. The author of the text thinks that John Paul II sermons and encyclicals as well as Fr. Józef Tischner’s texts (published in the book Etyka solidarności oraz Homo sovieticus – Solidarity’s ethics and homo soviecticus) also had an influence on the formation of these ideas, which could bring back moral order, the rule of law, dignity and freedom for the society enslaved by Soviets. “Solidarity” also desired to improve the economic status of the country, particularly by ending the crisis. Those thoughts were, and are, beautiful; unfortunately, nowadays many of them exist only in the sphere of ideas or demands written in NSZZ Solidarity’s statute. Therefore, the article contains a sad conclusion, that in the 3rd Republic of Poland’s reality, “Solidarity’s” ideas are not attractive anymore. It happened because modern society is guided by consumerism and has become banausic. Trade union membership is not beneficial anymore, sometimes even being bothersome and seen as exceptional. That is why people, for the sake of keeping their jobs or other benefits, are leaving NSZZ “Solidarity”. Considering the ideas behind trade unions (especially the protection of worker’s affairs) – it is a peculiar paradox.

Abstract Two studies were conducted to determine the effect of the supplementation of sugar, starch or both on feed, nutrient and energy intake and total tract digestibility in four adult female addax (Addax nasomaculatus) and four adult male Reeves's muntjac (Muntiacus reevesi) – representatives of grazing and browsing ruminants, respectively. Studies in both species were conducted according to 4 × 4 Latin Square Design. Animals had free access to meadow hay (addax) or dehydrated chopped lucerne (muntjac), and were fed a restricted amount of a ‘basal diet’ consisting of: (1) wheat bran; (2) wheat bran and sucrose (source of sugar); (3) wheat bran and wheat (source of starch); or (4) wheat bran, sucrose and wheat. The amounts of supplemental sucrose and wheat were set to account for 2% and 15%, respectively, of dry matter (DM) consumed. There was no effect of the ~2% sugar supplementation on DM intake of hay by addax, while the ~10% starch supplementation reduced DM intake of hay by 13% (p < 0.01); total DM intake (of hay and the basal diet) was not affected neither by sugar nor starch supplementation. When the diet for addax included wheat, this resulted in a greater intake of crude protein by 15%, lower intake of ADF by 9%, and greater crude protein digestibility by 10% (p ≤ 0.05). The ~2% sugar supplementation did not affect intake of lucerne and total DM intake by muntjac, but the ~10% starch supplementation decreased DM intake of lucerne by 25% (p < 0.01), total DM intake by 7% (p = 0.02) and intake of all nutrients (p ≤ 0.10). In summary, if high intake of roughages by captive ruminants is fundamental for their gastrointestinal functions and health, then starchy feeds supplementation should be limited, as they have an especially negative impact on roughage intake.

Abstract The article presents the comparison analysis between deformation field from numerical model and shear wave (S-wave) velocity field obtained from seismic interferometry (SI). Tests were conducted on active Just-Tęgoborze landslide. Geologically, the study area lies in Magura Nappe in the Outer Carpathians. The landslide’s flysch bedrock is covered by Quaternary colluvium built of clays and weathered clayey-rock deposits. During geotechnical investigation, properties of landslide body were established and failure surfaces were distinguished. In order to obtain S-wave velocity models, one-hour of ambient seismic noise was recorded by 12 broadband seismometers. As a result of data processing with SI method, Rayleigh surface wave propagation was reconstructed. The analysis of dispersion curves allowed to estimate a two dimensional S-wave velocity field. The deformation field were calculated assuming an elastic-plastic Coulomb-Mohr strength criterion. Images of shear strain increment, and values of factor of safety of the slope were obtained as a result of calculation. The comparison of the results indicates the similar characteristic features in the S-wave velocity field and the field of deformation calculated numerically.

Abstract Seismic interferometry based on ambient seismic noise was used to image the 3D S-wave velocity field of a subsurface disturbed by mining under the geological conditions at the KGHM Rudna copper mine in southwestern Poland. We recorded ambient seismic noise data for 3 months using 11 surface-mounted broadband seismometers located across the mining area. We used ambient-noise cross-correlation techniques to create a three-dimensional S-wave velocity model of the Cenozoic and Triassic formations up to a depth of 500 m. Cross-correlation functions (CCFs) indicate the Rayleigh and Love waves; however, only the Love waves in the 0.19–0.4 Hz frequency range were reliable, based on the symmetry of the CCFs in the positive and negative conditions. Imaging using the Love waves indicated that the changes in the S-wave velocity field in the model may be explained by the subsidence processes occurring above the mined area. The S-wave velocity decreased above the areas of the current mining operations. However, the S-wave velocity increased above older mined areas, probably due to suppression of the subsidence process and progressive consolidation of the geological medium over time. We also observed low-velocity anomalies in the intersection zones of the larger faults, with high energy seismic events. This could be caused by fault activation by current mining operations and a reduction in the stiffness of the layers in the fault intersection zone. This study presents the possibility of imaging the subsurface layers in a mining area using ambient seismic noise. It also has the potential to give a broader insight into how a geological medium responds to mining in terms of protecting the terrain surface and developing mining technologies.

Abstract In the article a comparison analysis is presented between a numerical model of the stress and deformation state in a rock mass and an S-wave velocity model obtained as a result of in situ measurement. The research was conducted using data from the Jastrzębie and Moszczenica coal mines. The part of the rock mass examined was strongly disturbed by multi-seam exploitation of coal. To obtain the S-wave velocity model 6 hours of ambient seismic noise data were recorded using 11 seismometers. The propagation of the Rayleigh surface wave between the seismometers was reconstructed utilising the seismic interferometry and the cross correlation technique. Estimation of a two dimensional model of the Swave velocity field was performed on the basis of dispersion curves of the Rayleigh wave phase velocity. The stress and deformation field were calculated assuming a plane state of stress with the use of the elastic-plastic Coulomb-Mohr strength criterion. Images of the vertical stress, horizontal stress, vertical strain and horizontal strain as well as the subsidence profile on the model surface were obtained as a result of the calculation. Analysis of the results shows correlation between the field of S-wave velocity and the modelled field of stress and strain.

Abstract Children with neurodevelopmental disorders are at risk for burn injury, but the clinical outcomes, particularly mortality, are unknown in this patient population in the United States (U.S.). The main objectives of this study are to evaluate (1) subject characteristics; (2) burn injury type; (3) clinical care provided; and (4) mortality in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), hypothesizing that this patient population has similar mortality and critical care management requirements when compared to children without ASD. This is a retrospective observational cohort study utilizing the TriNetX ® electronic health record database of subjects aged 0 to 18 years with burn injury associated diagnostic codes. Data were analyzed for demographics, diagnostic, medication, procedural codes, and mortality. We analyzed 99,323 subjects (n, %) coded for a burn injury [3083 (3.1%) with ASD and 96,240 (96.9%) without ASD]. Children with ASD had a higher odds of 1-year all-cause mortality [1.9 (1.06, 3.40), p = 0.004], need for critical care services [1.88 (1.40, 2.52), p < 0.001], and mechanical ventilation [2.69 (1.74, 4.17), p < 0.001] compared to those without. Our study found that U.S. children with ASD who had a burn injury had a higher odds of mortality and critical care needs when compared to children without ASD. Future studies are needed to understand the impact of burn injuries and factors associated with mortality in this patient population.

Abstract Staphylococci are a natural component of the skin microbiota of many organisms, including humans and birds. As opportunistic pathogens, they can cause a variety of infections in humans. The close contact between domestic pigeons and their owners provide an opportunity for exchange of skin-associated bacteria. In this study, 41 healthy racing pigeons were tested. Staphylococci were detected on the skin of each bird (41/41, 100%). Isolates were identified at the species level using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The diversity of the Staphylococcus species was relatively high and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) were predominantly isolated. In total, ten different staphylococcal species were identified. S. lentus (19/41, 46.3%) was noted most frequently. The pigeon skin was also inhabited by S. xylosus (6/41, 14.6%), S. equorum (4/41, 9.8%), S. hyicus (3/41, 7.3%), S. intermedius (2/41, 4.9%), S. sciuri (2/41, 4.9%), S. vitulinus (2/41, 4.9%), S. lugdunensis (1/41, 2.4%), S. hominis (1/41, 2.4%), and S. auricularis (1/41, 2.4%). Our results indicate that domestic pigeons may carry pathogens with zoonotic potential. All strains were susceptible to 12 antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, clindamycin chloramphenicol, erythromycin, fosfomycin, gentamicin, levofloxacin, norfloxacin, rifampicin, tobramycin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, vancomycin) representing 8 different classes. None isolate displayed a multidrug-resistant phenotype. Resistance to tetracycline (6/41, 14.6%) and to penicillin (4/41, 9.7%) was shown. The mecA gene was not detected in the examined strains and no methicillin-resistant staphylococci were found on the skin of the healthy pigeons.

Abstract SummaryThe paper deals with the problem of the place of Pomerania in imaginative geography of the inhabitants of the Polish lands since the rule of Mieszko I until beginning of the 13th century. The choice of the final date is justified by the political changes taking place at that time in Poland and in Pomerania itself, as well as the changes in imaginative geography, i.e. in the system of images of particular territories functioning in a community, in the case in question among the inhabitants of the Polish lands. The possibilities of reconstructing the images of Pomerania and the Baltic are limited because of the scarcity of sources, especially with reference to the earliest period. The article contains an analysis of the circumstances of creating and introducing into the written sources the names ‘Pomerania’ and ‘Pomeranians’. The picture of Pomerania in Gallus Anonymus’ chronicle has been extensively discussed, which results from the special position of that region in the spatial concept in that text. The paper indicates the main ways of the conceptualisation of the Pomeranian territory and its inhabitants by Gallus in the context of the contemporary system of learned geographical images, crusade ideology and political conditions of the textmaking and presenting the events. There is also a characterisation of the later mentions about Pomerania as a geographical space in the Polish sources of the beginning of the 13th century, among which the predominant place occupies Master Wincenty Kadłubek’s chronicle. The article shows how Master Wincenty Kadłubek presents Pomerania in various parts of his chronicle, especially in his narrative about the beginnings of the Polish state and nation, with possible causes and sources of the description. Finally, the article signals the changes which indicate that the period from the 13th to the 15th centuries should be regarded as a separate stage in the history of the Polish imagery of the Baltic and Pomerania.

Title translation Hospital-based Home Care for Children with Cancer from the Parents̓ Point of View - A Qualitative Exploration of Family Members.
Abstract Background: About 2,200 children and adolescents in Germany per year are diagnosed with oncological diseases. Through now, there are almost no offers for home care services for these patients. There is a pilot program offering hospital-based home care for children and adolescents with cancer in Germany. The perspective of the parents will be researched by a qualitative exploring study.
Patients: In this interview study parents from children with cancer will be interviewed.
Method: A qualitative exploring interview study, seeking the subjective perspective from parents on the hospital-based home care for children with cancer. The sample was drawn criterion-guided. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed using qualitative content analysis. For socio- demographic characteristics the participants respond to an online questionnaire.
Results: Eleven women and three men aged between 30 and 60 years participated in the interviews. The average age of the ill children was 8.43 years. Five parents state that the children's illness did not lead to a reduction in working hours or to the termination of the employment relationship. Hospital-based home care results in subjectively perceived relief in everyday family life, especially in terms of time. Furthermore, a reduction in the psychological perception of stress is described.
Discussion/conclusion: Due to the study design, the results presented here are to be regarded as indicative. In future studies the presented results should be supplemented by quantitative representative studies.

Abstract Background/objectives: There is limited research on the associated immediate and long-term outcomes of postpartum hemorrhage. Mothers with a pre-existing psychiatric disease prior to delivery may be especially vulnerable to postpartum hemorrhage outcomes but little is known on this topic. Barriers to studying this population exist and add to knowledge gaps. The goal of this study is to determine the clinical characteristics and frequency of complications within 1 year of a postpartum hemorrhage diagnosis and the psychiatric sequelae within 7 days of a postpartum hemorrhage diagnosis in mothers with a pre-existing mental health diagnosis prior to delivery versus those without.
Methods/design: This is a multicenter retrospective observational cohort study using TriNetX, a de-identified electronic health record database. The following electronic health record data were collected and evaluated in postpartum females who were billed for either a vaginal or cesarean delivery: age, race, ethnicity, diagnostic codes, medication codes, and number of deaths.
Results: We included 10,649 subjects (6994 (65.7%) no mental health diagnosis and 3655 (34.3%) pre-existing mental health diagnosis). Haloperidol administration (118 (3.2%) versus 129 (1.8%), p < 0.001) was more prevalent in subjects with a pre-existing mental health diagnosis. Adjusting for demographics, pre-existing mental health diagnoses were associated with complications within 1 year after postpartum hemorrhage diagnosis (OR = 1.39, 95% CI: 1.26-1.52, p < 0.001).
Conclusion: Having a mental health disorder history is associated with a higher odds of developing subsequent complications within 1 year of postpartum hemorrhage diagnosis. Mothers with a pre-existing mental health disorder have a significantly higher frequency of certain severe postpartum hemorrhage sequelae, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, retained placenta, sickle cell crisis, and need for mechanical ventilation/tracheostomy up to 1 year after delivery. Medications such as haloperidol were ordered more frequently within 7 days of a postpartum hemorrhage diagnosis in these mothers as well. Further research is needed to understand and manage the unique consequences of postpartum hemorrhage in this vulnerable maternal population.
