Abstract According to International Energy Agency (IEA), India is expected to surpass China by 2024 to become the second largest consumer of oil in the world followed by the United States. High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has the biggest share in the total petroleum products consumed in India accounting for around 38% of the total consumption. Considering the volatile global oil market and an oil import dependency ratio of more than 80% during the last four years, the probability of supply disruptions is high in the Indian context. As any uncertainty about the supply of diesel can affect the smooth functioning of the economy and may create inflationary pressures. Accurate forecasting of HSD demand will be essential for appropriate supply management arrangements. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) with Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) and extreme learning machines is used for forecasting diesel demand in this study. Demand forecasting has been carried out using monthly HSD demand data drawn from the “Indiastat” database for the period 1991-2022. Comparison of ANN with traditional forecasting methods of Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA)and Exponential Smoothing has also been undertaken in this study. This study identifies the deep learning technique of ANN with MLP as the best diesel demand forecasting technique.

Abstract Bone and soft tissue lesions in the head and neck encompass not only a broad morphologic spectrum but also significant inherent clinicopathologic overlap. Epidemiology, radiology, and location - similar to the diagnostic assessment in other sites - are especially important considerations in the context of an established mesenchymal proliferation. Herein, the approach towards diagnosis is stratified by morphology (spindle, sarcomatoid, epithelioid, round cell), cellular lineage (fibroblastic, nerve sheath, rhabdomyogenic), and tumor grade (benign, low- to high-grade malignant) as the basis of further immunohistochemical or molecular investigation.

Abstract Traumatic injury to the brain and its vessels is a major part of medical practice across the world. Its management however has long historical origins, but those beginnings can still teach clinical practitioners about the basic care of an injured patient. We present a little known historical medical case that to this day provides an example of best practice management resulting in successful clinical outcome. Charles IV (1316-1378) was Holy Roman Emperor between 1347 and 1378. During his reign, he disappeared for four months and returned a disfigured hunchback. There has been considerable controversy as to the cause of both his physical change and disappearance. We propose the most likely cause is from an unfortunate consequence of his love of jousting. Despite the damage and management of the traumatic injury endured by Charles IV occurring over 600 years ago, there are still lessons of his clinical management relevant to this day.

Abstract Virulence proteins in pathogens are essential for causing disease in a host. They enable the pathogen to invade, survive and multiply within the host, thus enhancing its potential to cause disease while also causing evasion of host defense mechanisms. Identifying these factors, especially potential vaccine candidates or drug targets, is critical for vaccine or drug development research. In this context, we present an improved version of VirulentPred 1.0 for rapidly identifying virulent proteins. The VirulentPred 2.0 is based on training machine learning models with experimentally validated virulent protein sequences. VirulentPred 2.0 achieved 84.71% accuracy with the validation dataset and 85.18% on an independent test dataset. The models are trained and evaluated with the latest sequence datasets of virulent proteins, which are three times greater in number than the proteins used in the earlier version of VirulentPred. Moreover, a significant improvement of 11% in the prediction accuracy over the earlier version is achieved with the best position-specific scoring matrix (PSSM)-based model for the latest test dataset. VirulentPred 2.0 is available as a user-friendly web interface at https://bioinfo.icgeb.res.in/virulent2/ and a standalone application suitable for bulk predictions. With higher efficiency and availability as a standalone tool, VirulentPred 2.0 holds immense potential for high throughput yet efficient identification of virulent proteins in bacterial pathogens.

Abstract Recently, mucilage extraction from plant sources has been remarkably explored due to its potential applications. Several underutilized fruits such as Aegle marmelos are the potential source of mucilage that can be utilized for agri-food-pharma applications. Therefore, in this study, we explored vital functional and antimicrobial properties of Aegle marmelos nanomucilage. Spray drying conditions such as inlet temperature, feed flow, and atomization speed were optimized to assess the influence on yield and moisture content using response surface methodology. In addition, during the optimized spray drying conditions, the maximum mucilage yield was 16.23 % (w/w). The particle size (178.4 ± 5.06 nm) at the nanoscale, polydispersity index (0.432), and zeta potential (-16.4 ± 1.14 mV) confirmed the stability of the nanomucilage. Moreover, the spray-dried nanomucilage powder exhibited high thermal stability (55.70 J) and excellent industrially important techno-functional properties with water-holding capacity (8.01 ± 0.04 g/g), oil-holding capacity (3.43 ± 0.7 g/g), emulsifying capacity (91.50 ± 0.78 %), emulsifying stability (92.65 ± 0.46 %), solubility (89.36 ± 1.69 %), and foaming capacity (16.13 ± 0.41 %). Moreover, the powder showed strong antibiofilm activity against food-pathogenic bacteria, including Escherichia coli (73.52 ± 1.14 %) and Staphylococcus aureus (79.57 ± 1.23 %), with minimum inhibitory concentrations of 3.125 mg/mL and 1.562 mg/mL respectively. Overall, based on the above findings the spray-dried powder of Aegle marmelos fruit nanomucilage could be utilized as a potential functional ingredient in various food products formulations.
