Abstract Introduction: This research was conducted to assess the effectiveness of red cell distribution width (RDW) as an indicator for pre-eclampsia (PE), a condition characterized by elevated blood pressure and the presence of protein in the urine occurring beyond the 20th week of pregnancy.
Methodology: The case-control investigation spanned 10 months, following the acquisition of informed consent and the receipt of ethical clearance. The study sample comprised a total of 70 pregnant women, evenly divided into two groups: 35 cases of PE and 35 normotensive pregnant controls. Both the cases and controls provided 3 ml venous blood samples. The study employed a semi-automated three-part hematological analyzer to establish the baseline RDW for all individuals.
Results: This study showed that the individuals with pre-eclampsia had a greater RDW compared to the healthy pregnant women. The observed difference was found to be statistically significant, with a p-value of 0.004. The receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis showed that RDW exhibited significant diagnostic accuracy in differentiating between cases and controls (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.71, P = 0.004) when employing a cut-off value of >= 18.25. The sensitivity was 80% and the specificity was 71.4%.
Conclusion: In contrast to other indicators of inflammation, RDW is a cost-effective and easily accessible biomarker that can be acquired from routine complete blood counts. It has the potential to be valuable in predicting and diagnosing pre-eclampsia.

Abstract Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients shows common features like increased insulin resistance and adiposity, which have been known to correlate with sympathetic hyperactivity.
Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the characteristics of heart rate variability in women with PCOS. To compare frequency domain parameters of heart rate variability (HRV) between women with PCOS and apparently healthy women. To study the impact of cardiometabolic parameters such as BMI and blood pressure on frequency-domain HRV parameters.
Methods: A total of 30 women with PCOS aged 20 to 40 years (as per Rotterdam criteria) were enrolled as cases and 30 age-matched women having normal ovulatory cycles were enrolled as controls. HRV was recorded using an electrocardiography machine (ECG) machine. The following frequency-domain parameters were assessed: Total power, Very low frequency (VLF), VLF%, Low Frequency (LF), LF%, LF nu, High frequency (HF), HF%, HF nu, LF/HF ratio, short-term variability (SD1), and long-term variability (SD2), respectively.
Results: Mean age of cases was 28.03 ± 5.33 years. Mean BMI of PCOS women was 25.39 ± 2.69 kg/m
Conclusions: Autonomic nervous system is affected by PCOS status of women, and sympathetic hyperactivity is seen.

Abstract Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome also known as mullerian agenesis is a rare congenital condition in which there is absence of uterus along with upper vagina. Patient usually presents with primary amenorrhea with or without cyclical lower abdominal pain but have normal secondary sexual characters. Modified McIndoe Vaginoplasty with amnion graft is the commonest surgery performed worldwide. A 23 year old girl with normal secondary sexual characters presented with primary amenorrhea with cyclical lower abdominal pain; on examination blind vagina was present. Vaginoplasty with amnion graft was done and vaginal mould was placed. Vaginal dilatation with Hegar's dilator was done weekly until 6 weeks. She is under regular follow-up at present and advised for regular manual dilation at home. McIndoe Vaginoplasty with amnion graft is a simple yet rewarding procedure especially in low resource countries like ours, with good success rate and with minimal postoperative complications. Keywords: Amnion graft; Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome; Modified McIndoe Vaginoplasty; Primary amenorrhea; Secondary sexual characters.

Abstract In this paper, we report the synthesis and characterization of a mononuclear zinc complex (1) containing a redox-active bis(4-antipyrinyl) derivative of the 3-cyanoformazanate ligand. Complex 1 was readily obtained by refluxing zinc acetate with 3-cyano-1,5-(4-antipyrinyl)formazan (LH) in a methanolic solution. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of complex 1 shows that the formazanate ligands bind to the zinc center in a five-member chelate "open" form

Abstract Introduction Two different mechanisms are used to close the space after extractions, i.e., friction/sliding mechanics and frictionless/loop mechanics. The focus of this study is on space closure using frictionless or loop mechanics, which utilize loops to achieve the desired tooth movement. Loops are designed to increase the resiliency of the archwire so that the ideal moment-to-force ratio (M/F) of 8:1 to 10:1 for bodily tooth movement can be obtained. By incorporating various loop designs, the resiliency of archwires may be increased, and an ideal M/F ratio can be obtained. Method Different pre-activation bends were incorporated in the titanium molybdenum alloy (TMA) wire at alpha (canine side) and beta (premolar side), respectively. A total of 36 finite element method (FEM) models were prepared with and without pre-activation bends to evaluate the moment-to-force ratio. Result The results obtained from the finite element method (FEM) analysis provided valuable insights into the force and moment generated during activation while retracting the tooth. Specifically, the alpha bend at 15 degrees and the beta bend at 20 degrees produced the most desirable results for generating moments on the anterior and posterior teeth, respectively. Conclusion To ensure the proper utilization of the multiple variability (MV) loop, we recommend its preparation using a 0.019 x 0.025-inch TMA wire. This selection will maximize the loop's capabilities and enhance its performance in achieving the desired tooth movement.

Abstract Background: The most common type of duodenal atresia (DA) (Type I), also known as duodenal web or membrane can present later in infancy or early childhood if the membrane or web is fenestrated. We describe six patients with delayed presentation of DA.
Materials and methods: Retrospective review of hospital records of six patients with delayed presentation of DA due to fenestrated web managed in Paediatric Surgery Department at a tertiary care institute over a period of 2 years (January 2019 to December 2020) was done. The data of these patients were analysed on the basis of age at presentation, clinical presentation, associated anomalies, radiological findings, intra-operative findings, management and postoperative course.
Results: The median age at presentation was 6.5 months (range: 1 month to 10 years). There were four males and two females. The most common presentation was emesis seen in all six patients. Two patients had Down syndrome. Associated congenital anomalies were cardiac in one patient, anterior ectopic anus in one patient and malrotation of midgut in one patient. Upper gastrointestinal contrast suggested incomplete duodenal obstruction in all patients. At laparotomy, fenestrated duodenal membrane was observed in all patients - preampullary in three patients and postampullary in three patients. Lateral duodenotomy, web excision and transverse closure was done in all six patients. The postoperative period was uneventful in all patients and mean duration of hospital stay was 9 days.
Conclusion: Fenestrated duodenal webs present a diagnostic challenge to the paediatric surgeons because of delayed and variable clinical presentation. A modification of the present classification of DA has been proposed in this study which would help in better reporting of epidemiology and aid in early diagnosis of this congenital anomaly.

Abstract Background: Hypospadias is among the common congenital anomalies in boys. Snodgrass urethroplasty is one of the most popular techniques for correcting distal and mid hypospadias. Although there is consensus among pediatric surgeons on using absorbable sutures for urethroplasty, there are no established guidelines about the suturing techniques (interrupted suturing [IS] or continuous suturing [CS]) for neourethra creation in Snodgrass urethroplasty. This analysis aims to compare the reported outcomes of both the urethroplasty suturing techniques.
Materials and methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted as per the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analyses guidelines. A systematic, detailed search was carried out by the authors in the electronic databases - MEDLINE, PubMed Central, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Clinical Trial Registry. Studies were selected and compared based on primary outcomes - development of urethrocutaneous fistula (UCF), meatal stenosis, and secondary outcomes - wound infection, urethral stricture, and operative time. Statistical analysis was performed using a fixed-effect model, pooled risk ratio, and
Results: Five randomized studies with a total of 521 patients met our inclusion criteria. Pooled analysis for total complications, UCF, meatal stenosis, and wound infection showed no significant difference between the CS and IS groups. Subgroup analysis of patients with the use of polyglactin sutures showed a decrease in total complications and UCF in the IS group.
Conclusion: There is no difference in total complication rates among the CS and the IS group with the use of absorbable sutures in Snodgrass urethroplasty; however, there is a decrease in the incidence of total complications and UCF in the IS group when polyglactin was preferred over polydioxanone suture for urethroplasty.

Abstract Background: Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is a valuable tool in the diagnosis and management of hypertension and it is a good predictor of future cardiovascular events. Lack of normal threshold values of ABPM parameters and inconsistency in the sampling rate of recording are hurdles in its wider usage. The aim of the present investigation was to study the influence of sampling rate on ABPM.
Methods: ABPM was performed in 47 healthy subjects and the effect of different sampling rates was studied on ABPM parameters.
Results: When data were down-sampled, there was a trend towards decreased concordance and increased dispersion with less frequent recordings. Percent dispersion of MESOR, 24-h average, 24 h standard deviation (SD), awake hours average and sleep hours average of systolic BP (SBP) were around 10% for a sampling interval of 1 h. While average real variability (ARV), morning surge and percent dip in SBP exhibited more than 30% dispersion at a sampling interval of 30 min.
Conclusion: 24-h average blood pressure (BP) is less sensitive to sampling rate whereas BP variability parameters such as ARV, morning surge and percent dip in SBP are highly sensitive. We suggest that for improving the accuracy of BP variability parameters, a higher sampling rate is desirable around the time of awakening (~2 h before and after the expected time of awakening). At other times, a lower sampling rate may be used for maximizing patient comfort without compromising measurement accuracy.

Abstract Vegetable crops benefit from seed priming technology by their low volume and high value. Early sowing of vegetables under suboptimal environments is practised often to fetch better remuneration in the market, although simultaneously it compels the farmers to use high seed rates to compensate for poor seedling emergence. To tackle this problem, farmers and seed companies world over practice on-farm and wet/dry priming techniques of seeds as it facilitates synchrony in flowering and fruiting, resulting in improved yields. The various priming strategies used for seed treatment are classified into: conventional/invasive (hydro-, osmo-, hormonal, halo-, solid matrix, nutrient, bio- or nano-priming) and physical/non-invasive (magneto, UV-irradiation, γ-radiation, cold plasma, electron and laser priming). The farmers can reap the benefits of seed priming as it minimizes (i) the time for plant emergence, (ii) expense of re-seeding, (iii) additional irrigation and fertilization, (iv) weed management, (v) ineffectiveness of cultural practices used on a stand of non-uniform growth. This review discusses the recent details about various seed priming techniques used for the enhancement of germination rate as well as vigor in vegetable crops. The biochemical and molecular mechanisms underlying the priming effects have also been comprehensively reviewed to explain the scientific basis of the technology.
