Abstract The article aims to study the mechanisms underlying the development of research and development (R&D) through investment in renewable energies and in ICTs before and after the Covid19 pandemic. First, we perform a dynamic panel regression through panel data from 2000 to 2019 for 14 Asian countries. In addition to economic and environmental determinants, the empirical study reveals that variables linked to intellectual property are the drivers of R&D investment in the Asian region. It is interesting to note that while brand requests stimulate R&D, industrial applications hamper this type of investment. Second, we provide an OLS regression of 38 Asian countries to analyze the effect of Covid-19 on research and development. Our empirical results encourage governments to invest more in renewable energies not only to reduce the greenhouse effect, but also to increase investment in R&D. In addition, policymakers are urged to apply more incentives to expand the export of ICT in both services and products.

Abstract Temporomandibular joint ankylosis is an important entity that dentists and maxillofacial surgeons should know about. It clinically manifests through a permanent limitation of mandibular movements coupled with mouth opening inferior to 3 cm. This serious pathology can have serious functional repercussions, such as mastication problems, speech troubles, eating disorders, and jaw growth hindrance, in addition to the psychological difficulties in coping with such a condition in daily life. Herein, we present a radiological and chronological illustration of the evolution of temporomandibular joint ankylosis following an overlooked traumatic fracture of the mandibular condyle. The present case report involves an 8-year-old patient referred for a gradually evolving mouth opening limitation following a car accident. Tomodensitometry was helpful as it revealed an osseous block between the left temporomandibular joint surfaces, showing an ankylosis. Posttraumatic cerebral computed tomography scan was performed. It revealed an undetected fracture of the left condyle. The aim of this paper was to show how a traumatic ankylosis could have been avoided if enough attention was paid to the interpretation of immediate posttraumatic computed tomography scans. A thorough dental examination must be carried out once vital emergency is over. Early diagnosis of temporomandibular joint trauma is a crucial factor in preventing complications, such as ankylosis and its consequent oral dysfunctions. The dentist must automatically suspect condylar fracture when a child presents a history of head trauma, especially a mandibular trauma. This case should be a reminder that although temporomandibular joints are very often left out in patients' vital emergency first examination, temporomandibular joints/they are still a highly important structure which omission, and thus, dysfunction, if lesions are present, can lead to nonnegligible medico-legal consequences/that temporomandibular joints should be taken into account during patients' vital emergency first examination because if they are neglected, in the presence of lesions, they cause dysfunction, thus leading to nonnegligible medico-legal consequences.

Abstract Introduction: Littre's hernia (LH) is a rare condition involving Meckel's diverticulum within a hernia sac, with an incidence of <0.1 % of all complicated hernias. To this day, only a few case reports have been published concerning this entity.
Case presentation: A 48-year-old patient with a history of four midline C sections and an incarcerated incisional midline hernia was admitted to the emergency department for small bowel obstruction evolving for 12 h. Examination revealed an incarcerated midline incisional hernia. An abdominal CT scan was performed, showing a multi-orifice incisional hernia with a small bowel loop and a 3 cm abscess. The patient underwent an urgent midline laparotomy. During surgery, we found a small bowel loop with a perforated Meckel's diverticulum, located 50 cm from the ileocaecal valve, associated with a 3 cm abscess. Surgical drainage of the abscess, resection of 20 cm of small bowel, including the diverticulum, and an appendicectomy were performed. The incisional midline hernia was managed by herniorrhaphy. The post-operative course was uneventful.
Clinical discussion: Surgeons need to keep in mind the possibility of discovering Meckel's diverticulum in a hernia sac in every incarcerated hernia. Complete history intake and careful physical examination are important to uncover signs prompting clinical suspicion. Littre's hernia is rare and difficult to diagnose, with no distinguishing clinical features or physical signs.
Conclusion: Managing LH involves treating the symptomatic Meckel's diverticulum with various resection methods and the hernia itself, with mesh application being a controversial topic. Prophylactic resection remains debatable among experts.

Abstract In a previous study, transgenic potato plants overexpressing the StDREB1 or the VvWRKY2 transcription factor (TF) proved to have higher productivity and ameliorated tuber quality in comparison to wildtype (WT; the BF15 variety) plants. Interestingly, when stored at 4 °C, we noticed that the tubers of transgenic potato plants exhibited a delay in sprouting, hence a longer dormancy period. Therefore, we decided to study the dormancy and sprouting of these tubers (the two transgenic and the WT lines) through a physiological and biochemical characterization. WT and genetically modified (GM) tubers were stored at 4 °C for different periods (0, 30, 90, 180, and 240 days) followed by placing them in a germination chamber and the sprouting parameters were then monitored. According to our findings, the overexpression of these two TFs led to modifications in the sprouting kinetic of tubers through an extension of the dormancy period and changes in the sprouting process. Indeed, WT tubers emitted apical and lateral sprouts while those from GM plants showed mainly apical sprouts. In addition, higher reactive oxygen species (ROS) rates, indicators of tuber aging, were recorded in WT tubers compared to GM ones. The higher antioxidant enzyme activities in GM tubers seem to be responsible for aging modification in comparison to WT. The above results suggest the first report on new roles of the StDREB1 and VvWRKY2 TF which seemed to be involved in the regulation of potato tuber aging via a reduction of the main biochemical factors concentration and the ROS content leading to a longer dormancy period and a modified sprouting pattern.

Abstract The case report describes a 73-year-old woman, with a history of diabetes, who presented with left hypochondrium pain. Interrogation revealed a long-term history of living with Echinococcus granulosus endemic area, associated to close contact with sheep and dogs. Upon physical examination, a painless mass of the left hypochondrium, fixed to the deep plane. Abdominal ultrasonography (USG) showed a 9 cm encapsulated mass in contact with the tail of the pancreas. Further investigation was carried out by performing an abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan showing: large cystic mass with a partially calcified thickened wall, containing multiple vesicles, measuring 11.5 cm, located at the tail of the pancreas. The patient was put under Albendazole for a week and then operated on. During laparotomy, a hydatid cyst was located in the tail of the pancreas. Conservative treatment was done sparing the healthy pancreatic parenchyma and avoiding major surgery for a diabetic patient.

Abstract Schizophrenia is associated to somatic disorders especially cardio-vascular and auto-immune. Through this case report, we describe an association with hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HPO). For this patient, it was a paraneoplastic syndrome secondary to lung cancer. This syndrome is rare but important to recognize since it could hide a life-threatening condition.

Abstract Stafne bone cavity belongs to the class of pseudocysts as a mandibular radiolucency image with well-defined borders. It is asymptomatic and incidentally discovered. CT scan is the best examination to identify characteristics and content of this image. This study aimed to highlight these radiological features to establish the correct diagnosis.
