Abstract The anti-inflammatory activity of the essential oil from C. longepaniculatum was evaluated by three experimental models including the dimethyl benzene-induced ear edema in mice, the carrageenan-induced paw edema in rat and the acetic acid-induced vascular permeability in mice. The influence of the essential oil on histological changes and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) production associated with carrageenan-induced rat paw edema was also investigated. The essential oil (0.5, 0.25, 0.13 ml/kg b.w.) showed significantly inhibition of inflammation along with a dose-dependent manner in the three experimental models. The anti-inflammatory activity of essential oil was occurred both in early and late phase and peaked at 4 h after carrageenan injection. The essential oil resulted in a dose dependent reduction of the paw thickness, connective tissue injury and the infiltration of inflammatory cell. The essential oil also significantly reduced the production of PGE2, histamine and 5-HT in the exudates of edema paw induced by carrageenan. Both the essential oil and indomethacin resulted relative lower percentage inhibition of histamine and 5-HT than that of PGE2 at 4 h after carrageenan injection.

Abstract From Pseudomonas chlororaphis D-TR 133 a pyoverdine was isolated and its primary structure were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and degradation reactions. Despite some structural differences, its Fe(III) complex and that of the pyoverdine from Pseudomonas fluorescens CHA0 were taken up by either strain with a high rate. This is explained by a structural similarity between the two pyoverdines which were shown to differ in their structures only by the replacement of Lys by Ala in the C-terminal part of the molecules. An unexpected feature is that the main pyoverdine of P. chlororaphis D-TR133 is accompanied by a minor one where specifically one Ala is replaced by Gly. So far amino acid variations in the peptide chain of pyoverdines produced by a given strain had not been observed amongst the producers of the about fifty pyoverdines reported in the literature.

Abstract Background and objectives: Recent controversy over the bone benefits of calcium and vitamin D supplementation, and the potential detrimental effects of excess calcium supplementation, has confused clinicians. To systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of vitamin D combined with calcium in preventing and treating osteoporotic symptoms in the elderly.
Methods and study design: Databases were searched to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on vitamin D combined with calcium in the prevention and treatment of osteoporotic fractures in the elderly. After screening the literature, extracting data, and assessing the risk of bias in the included studies, the Meta-analysis was performed.
Results: 19 RCTs were included, including 69,234 patients. Meta-analysis results showed that the mortality rate of the vitamin D combined with calcium group was not statistically significant compared with the control group; the calcium combined with vitamin D significantly reduced the incidence of fractures compared with the control group,Density and serum 25-hydroxyl concentration, adverse reactions of calcium combined with vitamin D were higher than those in the control group.
Conclusions: The combination of vitamin D and calcium has no difference in mortality rate, and it can prevent fractures in the elderly, and enhance bone density and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration, but still need to pay attention to adverse reactions in the gastrointestinal tract.
