Abstract Granulosis rubra nasi (GRN) is a rare genodermatosis involving the eccrine glands with an unknown aetiology. It is clinically characterized by localized hyperhidrosis, erythema, papules, pustules, and vesicles over central region of face and usually manifests during early childhood. GRN is asymptomatic, spontaneously resolves during puberty, and treatment options have inconsistent results. We hereby present a case of GRN in 38 years female with sites and dermoscopy findings not defined so far.

Abstract Mutations in the genes, GJB2 and GJB6 play an important role in autosomal recessive, non-syndromic hearing loss. This study is aimed to detect the association of mutations in GJB2 and GJB6 genes in familial autosomal recessive non-syndromic hearing impairment cases. We included 26 families with at least two affected individuals having congenital bilateral, non-syndromic sensorineural hearing loss. Blood samples were drawn, DNA was extracted, and sent for multiplex PCR and Sanger sequencing. Of the 26 families analyzed, GJB2 mutations were detected in 9(34.6%) and GJB6 mutations were not detected in any of the families. GJB2 mutations are a major cause of congenital, non-syndromic hearing loss in this study population. This study also suggests that GJB6 mutations do not contribute to autosomal recessive non-syndromic hearing loss in the Indian population.

Abstract Immunocompromised district refers to the area of the skin with altered immune response predisposing secondary diseases to develop in an immunocompetent individual. This might be explained by the theory of T-cell exhaustion which is characterized by the impairment of the effector function of antigen-specific T cells due to chronic persistence of the primary antigen. T-cell exhaustion model is not well known; however, it serves as a newer concept in the pathogenesis of diseases occurring simultaneously over the same site. Thus, it is not surprising to have two different infectious or non-infectious dermatoses over the same site one preceding the other as observed in our patient. The concept of immunocompromised district and T-cell exhaustion is a rare phenomenon; however, it should be identified by the treating physicians/dermatologists for the optimum management of the atypical presentation of the diseases.

Abstract Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a dermatologic emergency usually attributed to drugs. Recurrent episodes of TEN are more common in the pediatric population than in adults. Patients carrying susceptible specific haplotypes, cross-reactivity between the drugs, and drug metabolites generated by the Cytochrome P450 are the key factors for the recurrent episodes. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) increases the risk of toxic epidermal necrolysis by altering the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the drug with comparatively higher mortality in this group of patients. We hereby present an elderly female with 2 episodes of TEN following intake of furosemide at present and Nimesulide 3 years back. Cross-reactivity between these drugs because of the similar stereochemical structure might have triggered the second episode. The second episode of TEN was milder in presentation with a short latency period without any constitutional symptoms as compared to the first episode. Thus, treating physicians should always consider cross-reactivity between the chosen drugs in order to prevent subsequent life-threatening episodes, especially in patients with CKD.

Abstract Objectives: Cigarette smoking continues to be the leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality in the United States. Tobacco related mortality has promoted a massive effort to understand and enhance smoking cessation efforts. In this study, we examine the role of different factors on intentions to quit smoking. Methods: Data is taken from Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) 2012. A total of 1745 national representative samples of U.S adults, meeting our research conditions, were included in this study. Results: Multivariate statistical analysis methods were used which showed that employed participants were 6 times more likely to have intentions to quit than participants with other occupational statuses were. Participants who received support sometimes from health professionals were 9 times more likely to have intention to quit smoking as compared to those who never received support from health professionals. In addition, race (Hispanic), and age group (35-39 years) are significantly associated with intentions to quit smoking. Perceived personal risk of cancer, perceived compared risk of cancer, and family history of cancer were not significantly associated with intentions to quit smoking. Conclusion: Our study suggests that age, race, occupational status, and help from health professionals are viable intervention targets for smoking cessation interventions. As a key role can be played by health professionals in smoking cessation interventions, future work should evaluate the extent to which health professionals can play a role in smoking cessation intervention. Smokers should be encouraged to maintain smoke free environments in their homes and offices, by health care providers leading to the protection of non-smokers, lesser convenience for smoking, decreased cigarette consumption, and smoking cues over time.

Abstract Introduction: The aim of this study is to evaluate treatment patterns, survival outcomes, and factors influencing systemic treatment decisions in adults 80 years and older with NSCLC.
Methods: This was a retrospective National Cancer Database study evaluating outcomes in adults aged 80 years and older with advanced NSCLC. Patients were analyzed on the basis of systemic therapy, including none, chemotherapy or immunotherapy (IO) alone, and chemotherapy plus IO (chemotherapy + IO). Median overall survival (OS) was compared using Kaplan-Meier methodology. Hazard ratio with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to assess differences in outcomes, and OR with 95% CI was used to assess factors contributing to systemic therapy provision.
    Results: Patients 80 years and older (OR = 1.135 [95% CI: 1.127-1.142],
Conclusions: Age, comorbidities, patient race, and sex affected systemic therapy provision. Multiagent chemotherapy and chemotherapy plus IO significantly improved survival; with the latter, survival was similar with IO plus single or multiagent chemotherapy.

Abstract Introduction: Socio-demographic factors may play a pivotal role in anxious and depressed alcohol dependent patients. Identifying the patterns and impact of these factors may be important in the successful management of Alcohol Use Disorders (AUDs). Aim: To assess the patterns and impact of socio-demographic factors in anxious and depressed alcohol dependent patients. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Rama Medical College Hospital and Research Centre Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, from August 2018 to January 2020. Patients with history of substance dependence, gross brain damage, severe medical complications, or evidence of drinking during the hospital stay were excluded. Severity of Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire (SADQ) was used to rate the extent of alcohol dependence and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D or HDRS) to rate depression. Socio-demographic data was recorded in each patient which included age, gender, background, education level, employment status, occupation, marital status, and family type. The severity of anxiety symptoms was measured on Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A). Independent t-tests, Chi-square tests, one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearson’s correlation analysis were used for statistical analysis. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The total of 90 alcohol dependent patients with mean age of 37.6±9.3 years and mean HDRS score was 8.5±4.3. The overall prevalence of depression cohort was 40%. Out of these 30 (33.3%) had mild and 6 (6.7%) had moderate depression, respectively. The mean Hamilton anxiety scale score was 18.6±5.2. Patients who had a lower Socio-economic Status (SES) (p-value=0.049 and 0.004), were maritally separated (p-value <0.001 and 0.027), living in a nuclear family (p-value=0.005 and <0.001) and were unemployed (p-value <0.001 and p-value <0.001) had significantly higher depression and anxiety scores, respectively. Conclusion: In anxious and depressed alcohol dependent ...

Abstract Objective: To understand perceptions, attitudes and experiences of school-going adolescents, their parents, teachers and school management towards sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs).
Design: An exploratory qualitative study was undertaken.
Setting: The study was conducted in selected, mixed, unaided schools in the state of Delhi.
Subjects: Students of classes 8 to 12th, principals of schools, teachers, parents and school canteen owners.
Results: SSBs formed an integral part of the diet of adolescents due to its taste and role as a thirst quencher. Respondents had a fair knowledge of health effects of SSBs. However, they were not aware of the range of drinks that constitute SSBs. Respondents associated SSBs with positivity and happiness. Promotion of SSBs by sports and film stars was cited as a major driver influencing consumption of SSBs by young people.
Conclusions: SSBs were readily available even though schools had put in measures to restrict their availability in the premises. Peer pressure emerged as a key factor that drove the consumption of SSBs. Advertisements for SSBs involved individuals who were considered role models and these focused on themes that were important for young people such as belongingness, machismo and friendship among others. On the contrary, health promotion messages around obesity or the consumption of SSBs hardly had any brand ambassador or the visibility of campaigns that promoted SSBs.
