Abstract This research aims to examine the factors that determine the sustainable performance of the hospitality sector of Pakistan. Particularly, it measures the effect of three green HRM practises on hotels' social, economic, and environmentally sustainable performance. The research model incorporates a serially mediated role of green intellectual capital and green behaviour to connect green training, green benefits and compensation, and green hiring with sustainable performance. The study uses the Social Cognitive Theory and resource-based view theory and analyses data using simple random sampling, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modelling. Data is collected from the staff of hotels through a dyad approach by employing the self-administered 5-Likert scale questionnaire. The response rate is 99%, and findings show that green intellectual capital and green behaviour serially mediate amongst green performance, green training, sustainable social performance, sustainable economic performance, and environmentally sustainable performance. However, green hiring does not regress directly or partially with the components of sustainable performance. The study's originality develops green HRM practises based on sustainable performance in the hospitality sector in developing nations. The study's findings are important for achieving sustainable development goals, improving the hospitality sector performance, and employees' role in sustainable performance. The study is sector-specific, and future studies may choose the moderated role of factors to determine sustainable performance.

Abstract The objective of this study was to assess the psychological impact of isolation on individuals with Covid-19 and determine the experiences of people in isolation. All adults with Covid-19 who reported to the infectious disease tele-clinic were included in the study; participants were sent the survey form via email. The email was sent to 146 people and 47 responses were received. IES-R questionnaire was submitted to all individuals on Day 7 of quarantine, along with a qualitative questionnaire. The mean score on IES-R for all the respondents was 18.77. Out of 47 participants, for 6 (12.8%) PTSD was a clinical concern, 3 (6.4%) participants had a probable diagnosis of PTSD, and 6 (12.8%) participants scored high enough to suppress immune function. The majority of participants reported stress due to confinement in an isolated space and interruption in daily routine, specifically work-related routine. Praying, meditation, and having social support helped the participants cope with the isolation.

Abstract Telemedicine use for patients with autoimmune rheumatic conditions during the pandemic mandates better characterization. We conducted a telephonic survey on patients who consulted rheumatologists remotely to determine their attitudes toward telemedicine. The study was conducted at Aga Khan University Hospital, a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan which is a lower-middle-income country. Descriptive analyses were performed. Fifty patients visited tele-rheumatology clinic, 35 (70.0%) were female with a mean (SD) age of 47.6 (18.1) years. Majority (27, 54.0%) learned about telemedicine from hospital website and outpatient clinic desk or helpline. Lack of examination was the biggest concern with teleconsultation (18, 22.2%). Most patients (38, 76.0%) agreed to continue teleconsultation beyond the pandemic. Telemedicine is preferable for providing rheumatology outpatient service during and after the pandemic.

Abstract Background and aims: COVID-19 morbidity and mortality varied globally through the pandemic
Methods: A retrospective review of clinical, laboratory, and vaccination data of 197 COVID-19 adult patients at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi between April 2021, and February 2022 was performed. SARS-CoV-2 VOC identified in respiratory samples were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analysis was conducted to identify factors associated with COVID-19 outcomes.
Results: The median age of cases was 55 years and 51.8% were males. Twenty-four percent of females were pregnant. Of COVID-19 cases, 48.2% had nonsevere disease, while 52.8% had severe/critical disease. Hypertension (48%) and diabetes mellitus (41%) were common comorbids. SARS-CoV-2 VOC identified comprised; Omicron (55.3%), Beta (14.7%), Alpha (13.7%), Delta (12.7%), and Gamma (3.6%) variants. Most (59.7%) study subjects were unvaccinated. Of vaccines, 88% had received inactivated virus COVID-19 vaccines. Increased risk of severe disease was associated with age ≥50 years (odds ratio [OR]: 5.73; 95% confidence interval [CI]: [2.45-13.7]), as well as with diabetes mellitus (OR: 4.24; 95% CI: [1.82-9.85]). Full vaccination (OR: 0.25; 95% CI: [0.11-0.58]) or infection with Omicron (OR: 0.42; 95% CI: [0.23-0.74]) was associated with reduced disease severity. The risk of mortality increased with age ≥50 years (OR: 5.07; 95% CI: [1.92-13.42]) and a history of myocardial infarction (OR: 5.11; 95% CI: [1.45-17.93]) whilst, infection with Omicron was found to reduce the risk (OR: 0.22; 95% CI: [0.10-0.53]).
Conclusion: Our study describes the relationship between the severity of COVID-19, in-hospital mortality in relation to SARS-CoV-2 variants, and the impact of COVID-19 vaccination in Pakistan. Outcomes were more favorable in younger individuals, after vaccinations and with Omicron variant infections. Most cases received inactivated virus vaccines therefore these data highlight the protection provided against severe COVID-19.

Abstract The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has turned our own health and the world economy upside down. While several vaccine candidates are currently under development, antivirals with the potential to limit virus transmission or block infection are also being explored. Plant production platforms are being used to generate vaccines and antiviral proteins inexpensively and at mass scale. The following review discusses the biology and origins of the current coronavirus pandemic, and describes some of the conventional, synthetic, and plant-based approaches to address the challenge that it presents to our way of life.

Abstract Introduction: Afghanistan has been in a near-continuous armed conflict, which has degraded the country's health infrastructure. Due to this, Afghans have opted to seek cancer treatment in Pakistan. This manuscript aims to understand the complex cancer journey of patients from Afghanistan seeking care in the largest tertiary care cancer institutions in Pakistan.
Methods: This retrospective study explores the demographics, epidemiology and outcomes of Afghan cancer patients treated at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centres (SKMCH&RC) in Lahore and Peshawar, Pakistan, over the period from 1995 to June 2022.
Results: A total of 6,370 patients from Afghanistan have undergone cancer care since 1995. The mean age at presentation was 40.7 years, 57% were male, and 87% were adults >19 years. Close to 30% of these patients came from Kabul and Nangarhar districts. 56% of all patients presented with stage III or IV disease. 34% of adult patients achieved a complete response to treatment, but more than half of all patients have since been lost to follow-up. Children generally had better outcomes, with 43% showing a complete response to treatment.
Discussion: The cancer journey for these patients remains long and difficult and the inability to ensure follow-up in so many remains frustrating for both patients and providers. The lack of a cancer infrastructure in Afghanistan after decades of conflict, means that policymakers need to develop and support alternative systems and structures to provide post-conflict domestic and cross-border cancer care.

Abstract Hemorrhagic cystitis is a familiar complication of cyclophosphamide therapy in patients receiving high doses of intravenous cyclophosphamide, which is commonly used as part of a chemotherapeutic regimen and as an immunosuppressant for various malignancies and connective tissue diseases. Acrolein, an active and urotoxic metabolite of cyclophosphamide, is the leading cause of this hazardous complication. However, there are very few case reports indicating the role of pathogens such as BK virus, adenovirus, cytomegalovirus (CMV), Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella, and Candida as the triggers for hemorrhagic cystitis, after short courses and oral use of cyclophosphamide therapy. Here, we report a case of CMV-related cystitis in a patient with membranous glomerulonephritis, who received conventional doses of oral cyclophosphamide for a short duration and presented with hematuria. Cystoscopy, along with a microscopic examination of the bladder mucosa, revealed mononuclear viral inclusions indicating CMV were observed. The patient responded to antiviral therapy.
