Abstract It is of great theoretical significance and engineering application value to research the diffusion law of slurry in mining fractures of rock strata to enrich grouting theory and improve grouting sealing effect. In this paper, the law of grout diffusion in fractures under different working conditions is systematically explored and analyzed, and a numerical simulation scheme of grout diffusion in a single slab crack is established. Then, the diffusion law of grouting slurry in crack under different rheological index and different consistency index is further investigated. The results show that the diffusion time of grouting slurry has no relation with the rheological index. The grout pressure at the same point increases with the increase of rheological index. When the rheological index increases by 0.1, the grout pressure increases by about 12.5%. The closer the grouting mouth is, the more the grouting pressure is affected by the rheological index. There is little relationship between the diffusion time of grouting slurry and consistency index. The grout pressure at each measurement point increases with the increase of the consistency index. When the consistency index increases by 1, the grout pressure increases by about 15% on the basis of the origin. The closer the grouting mouth is, the more the grouting pressure is affected by the consistency index. In engineering practice, when grouting slurry with large rheological index or consistency index exists, it is necessary to moderately increase the grouting pressure value.

Abstract Metastasis is the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality and the underlying mechanisms of cancer metastasis remain elusive. Both blood and lymphatic vasculatures are essential structures for mediating distal metastasis. The vasculature plays multiple functions, including accelerating tumor growth, sustaining the tumor microenvironment, supplying growth and invasive signals, promoting metastasis, and causing cancer-associated systemic disease. VEGF is one of the key angiogenic factors in tumors and participates in the initial stage of tumor development, progression and metastasis. Consequently, VEGF and its receptor-mediated signaling pathways have become one of the most important therapeutic targets for treating various cancers. Today, anti-VEGF-based antiangiogenic drugs (AADs) are widely used in the clinic for treating different types of cancer in human patients. Despite nearly 20-year clinical experience with AADs, the impact of these drugs on cancer metastasis and systemic disease remains largely unknown. In this review article, we focus our discussion on tumor VEGF in cancer metastasis and systemic disease and mechanisms underlying AADs in clinical benefits.

Abstract Many studies have used various methods to estimate future nuclear radiation levels to control radiation contamination, provide early warnings, and protect public health and the environment. However, due to the high uncertainty and complexity of nuclear radiation data, existing prediction methods face the challenges of low prediction accuracy and short warning time. Therefore, accurate prediction of nuclear radiation levels is essential to safeguard human health and safety. This study proposes a novel Mixformer model to predict future hourly nuclear radiation data. The seasonality and trend of nuclear radiation data are extracted by data decomposition. To address the slow speed problem common in traditional methods for long-time series prediction tasks, Mixformer simplifies the decoder with convolutional layers to speed up the convergence of the model. The experiments consider the air-absorbed dose rate of nuclear radiation data, spectral data, six climatic conditions, and two other conditions. We use MSE and MAE metrics to verify the effectiveness of Mixformer prediction. The results show that the Mixformer proposed in this paper has better prediction performance compared to the currently popular models. Therefore, the proposed model is a feasible method for industrial nuclear radiation data processing and prediction.

Abstract Introduction: With the economic recession and pandemic fatigue, milder viral variants and higher vaccine coverage along the time lay the basis for lifting anti-COVID policies to restore COVID-19 normalcy. However, when and how to adjust the anti-COVID policies remain under debate in many countries.
Methods: In this study, four countries (Singapore, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand) and one region (Hong Kong SAR), that have shifted from the zero-COVID (ZC) policy to or close to the living-with-COVID (LWC) during or after the Omicron outbreak, were selected as research objects. All-cause mortality data were collected for these objects from 2009 to 2019. The expected mortality was estimated by a simple linear regression method. Excess mortality over time was calculated as the difference between the expected mortality and the observed mortality. Finally, percent excess mortality (PEM) was calculated as the excess mortality divided by the expected mortality.
Results: In the examined four countries, PEM fluctuated around 0% and was lower than 10% most of the time under the ZC policy before 2022. After shifting to the LWC policy, all the examined countries increased the PEM. Briefly, countries with high population density (Singapore and South Korea) experienced an average PEM of 20-40% during the first half of 2022, and followed by a lower average PEM of 15-18% during the second half of 2022. For countries with low population density under the LWC policy, Australia experienced an average PEM of 39.85% during the first half of 2022, while New Zealand was the only country in our analysis that achieved no more than 10% in average PEM all the time. On the contrary, Hong Kong SAR under their ZC policy attained an average PEM of 71.14% during the first half of 2022, while its average PEM decreased to 9.19% in the second half of 2022 with LWC-like policy.
Conclusion: PEM under different policies within each country/region overtime demonstrated that the mortality burden caused by COVID-19 had been reduced overtime. Moreover, anti-COVID policies are suggested to control the excess mortality to achieve as low as 10% in PEM.

Abstract Background: Due to the lack of postoperative reporting outcomes and bio-mechanical studies, an optimal management of scapular fractures has not been well-established in clinical treatment, even though there are many options available. This study aimed to compare the stability of the new titanium anatomic and traditional titanium reconstructive plates for extra-articular scapular fractures through finite element analysis.
Methods: Two models of scapular assembly were constructed, including one anatomic plate (AP model) and one reconstructive plate (RP model). After meshing, material parameter, and boundary condition settings, we applied four loading conditions to simulate forces acting on the scapula and osteosynthesis material. To evaluate the bio-mechanical properties, the equivalent von Mises stress, equivalent elastic strain, and total deformation were investigated.
Result: The stress and strain distribution of model AP has better performance than model RP, with more uniform and lower values. The maximum stress value of the scapula in model AP is smaller than that of the scapula in model RP (102.83 MPa vs. 166.71 MPa). The maximum stress of the anatomic plate is half that of the reconstructive plate (218.34 MPa vs. 416.01 MPa). The maximum strain of the scapula in model AP is smaller than that of the scapula in model RP (0.0071 vs. 0.0106). The maximum strain of the anatomic plate is half that of the reconstructive plate (0.0019 vs. 0.0037). The maximum displacement of each model is all at the acromion, with a similar value (2.2947 mm vs. 1.8308 mm).
Conclusions: With sufficient bio-mechanical stability, the anatomic plate to support scapular fracture fragments was superior to that of the reconstructive plate.

Abstract Objective: To investigate the association between blood calcium concentration and incident kidney stone as well as to assess the role played by genetic susceptibility.
Methods: We performed a population-based cohort study based on participants from the UK Biobank. A multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs of incident kidney stone for blood calcium level and polygenic risk score (PRS). In addition, the potential interaction was explored. The study was conducted from January 28, 2023, through June 4, 2023.
Results: During the follow-up of 423,301 participants with a total of 5,490,332 person-years (median follow-up of 13.4 years), 4502 cases of kidney stone were recorded. Compared with the low blood calcium concentration group (first tertile), individuals in the high (third tertile) and moderate (second tertile) concentration groups had higher risks of kidney stone with HRs of 1.24 (95% CI, 1.15 to 1.33) and 1.11 (1.04 to 1.20), respectively. The PRS for kidney stone contained 40 independent single-nucleotide polymorphisms and was used to assign individuals to 3 groups according to the quintile. Participants with high (Q5) and moderate (Q2 to Q4) genetic risks had increased risks of kidney stone compared with low (Q1) genetic risk with HRs of 1.70 (1.53 to 1.89) and 1.31 (1.20 to 1.44), respectively. There was a joint cumulative risk of incident kidney stone between blood calcium concentration and genetic susceptibility.
Conclusions: Blood calcium concentration and PRS are significantly associated with incident kidney stone risk. Excessive blood calcium concentration might bring additional stone risk in populations at high genetic risk. A nonlinear correlation between blood calcium concentration and kidney stone risk was indicated.

Abstract ABSTRACT Broccoli is increasingly favored by consumers as it is rich in vitamins and many other bioactive compounds. However, existing large tractor-drawn vegetable harvesting machinery is more suitable for large farmland and farm cultivation patterns. Therefore, this paper develops tracked broccoli harvesting equipment for small farmland and tests the ability to harvest broccoli. The tracked broccoli harvester developed in this paper is capable of traveling on its own in the field, cutting the stalks and transporting the broccoli bulbs. This paper analyses the working process of the cutting device and designs the working parameters. Through the cutting bench experiment, the optimal working parameters of the cutting device were determined as 456 r/min of rotational speed, 8.312 mm of overlap, and 0.255 m/s of pusher speed. In the field test, the broccoli leakage rate was 4.8%, the cutting qualification rate was 81.6%, the transport qualification rate was 95.62%, the damage rate was 3.96%, and the total loss rate was 8.55%. This structural model is an important technical support for broccoli harvesting equipment in China.
