Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance: Qing-Xin-Jie-Yu Granule (QXJYG) is an integrated traditional Chinese medicine formula used to treat atherosclerotic (AS) cardiovascular diseases. A randomized controlled trial found that QXJYG reduced cardiovascular events and experiments also verified that QXJYG attenuated AS by remodeling the intestinal flora.
Aim of the study: To determine whether QXJYG would attenuate AS and plaque vulnerability by regulating ferroptosis in high-fat diet-induced atherosclerotic ApoE
    Methods: AS models in ApoE
Results: QXJYG attenuated AS progression and plaque vulnerability. Characteristic morphological changes of ferroptosis in the QXJYG-treated animals were rare. Total iron was significantly lower in the QXJYG group than in the model group (P < 0.05); QXJYG suppressed the lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels (malondialdehyde), enhanced the antioxidant capacity (superoxide dismutase and glutathione), and reduced inflammatory factors (interleukin [IL]-6, IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α) associated with ferroptosis. Expression of GPX4/xCT in aorta tissues was remarkably increased in the QXJYG group. QXJYG inhibited ferroptosis in J744A.1 macrophages disturbed using RSL3. The Fe
Conclusion: QXJYG inhibits ferroptosis in vulnerable AS plaques partially via the GPX4/xCT signaling pathway.

Methods: A multicenter, prospective, double-blind, double-dummy, randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted at four hospitals in China. A total of one hundred thirty-three patients with GAD were enrolled from 2017 to 2019. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) JYW formula on GAD at eight weeks, with the use of Buspirone as the comparator. A stepwise dosing protocol was used (JYW: high dose 24 g/day, low dose 12 g/day; Buspirone: high dose 30 mg/day, low dose 15 mg/day) and the dose was adjusted depending on whether the treatment response of Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) score was less than or equal to 25% after one week. The primary outcome was a change in total score on the HAMA. The secondary outcomes included the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), Clinical Global Impression (CGI) scale, and TCM Syndrome Scale. Adverse events were recorded using the Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS). Assessments were conducted at the baseline and 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks.
Results: A total of one hundred thirty-three participants were randomly assigned to the JYW group (
Conclusions: The conclusion of this study supports that JYW and Buspirone can effectively alleviate the anxiety symptoms of GAD patients, which are both effective and safe for treatment of mild to moderate GAD. Besides, high-dose JYW or Buspirone are more effective than low-dose, which is of great importance in assisting clinical medication choice.

A total of one hundred thirty-three participants were randomly assigned to the JYW group (n = 66) and the Buspirone group (n = 67). One hundred twenty-one patients (91%) completed at least one follow-up session. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of gender, age, disease course, HAMA, HAMD, CGI, and TCM Syndrome Scale scores at baseline (all P>0.05). Repeated-measures analysis of variance revealed statistically significant time effects for the HAMA (P=0.002), HAMD (P = 0.018), and CGI (P=0.001) in both groups. Sensitivity analyses supported the credibility of the main results (P>0.05). The group effect was not significant for the HAMA (P=0.43), HAMD (P=0.27), CGI (P=0.37), and TCM Syndrome Scale (P=0.86). Furthermore, there were no significant interaction effects between time and group in terms of the HAMA (P=0.47), HAMD ...

Abstract Macrophage polarization plays a vital impact in triggering atherosclerosis (AS) progression and regression. Huang-Lian-Jie-Du Decoction (HLJDD), a famous traditional Chinese decoction, displays notable anti-inflammatory and lipid-lowering effects in different animal models. However, its effects and mechanisms on AS have not been clearly defined. We determined whether HLJDD attenuated atherosclerosis and plaques vulnerability by regulating macrophage polarization in ApoE

The psoriasis model of SKH-1 nude mice was established by imiquimod-induced and HLJDD gavage was given. Hematoxylin and eosin staining were used to evaluate pathological morphologies, and immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expressions of Wnt1, β-catenin, and c-Myc in psoriasis mice. Western blot was used to examine the expressions of Frizzled-2, LRP5/6, GSK-3β, APC, Axin2, TCF4, LEF1, cyclin D1, TBX3, EPHB2, and NOTUM enzyme. Results. In this study, HLJDD reduced skin erythema and lesions, decreased the thickness of epidermal and downregulated the expressions of Wnt1, β-catenin, and c-Myc. Western blot results showed that HLJDD reduced the expressions of Wnt receptors Frizzled-2 and LRP5/6, and Wnt downstream target genes TCF4, LEF1, cyclin D1, TBX3, and EPHB2, while upregulated destruction complex proteins GSK-3β, APC, and Axin2. Conclusions. HLJDD can effectively treat psoriasis and inhibit the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway at multiple stages.

Abstract Water and sediment samples of Jie River, China were collected and analyzed. The results showed that the average arsenic volume of water sample was 0.42 mg L-1 present in the Jie River. Among the riverway, the arsenic volume and pH kept rising with the flow. Standard leaching experiments showed the leachability of the sediments was lower than the hazardous materials permitted threshold volume but the leaching liquid exceeded the environmental quality standard for surface water which means the sediments might be a source to leach arsenic into aqueous system. In order to figure out the actual situation, simulated leaching experiments were performed. The results revealed that the sediments leaching could aggravate the water quality which was mostly influenced by the agitation and temperature. Solidification procedure was tested and suggested that with clean sand paved on the sediment, the amount of leaching arsenic will decrease 77.89%. Thus, it is of great help to apply cleaned sediments to remediate the contaminated sediments to reduce the leaching of arsenic into the aqueous system.

Abstract Jie-Geng-Tang (JGT), a classic and famous traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription composed of Platycodon grandiflorum (Jacq.) A. DC. (PG) and Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. (GU), is well known for "clearing heat and relieving toxicity" and its ability to "diffuse the lung and relieve sore throat." However, the mechanism underlying its action remains unclear. In this study, potential anti-inflammatory ingredients were screened and submitted to PharmMapper and the KEGG bioinformatics website to predict the target proteins and related pathways, respectively. Differentially expressed candidate proteins from acute lung injury (ALI) mice treated with JGT were identified by isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) and LC Triple-TOF. Eleven potential anti-inflammatory ingredients were found, including the derivatives of glycyrrhizic acid, licorice-saponin, liquiritin, and platycodigenin. A total of sixty-seven differentially expressed proteins were confirmed after JGT treatment with four therapeutic functions, including immunoregulation, anti-inflammation, ribosome, and muscle contraction. PG and GU comediate PI3K/Akt signal pathway inhibition of NF-κB, VCAM1, and ICAM1 release which primarily act on PI3K, PDK1, AKT, and GSK3β. GU markedly inhibits the ERK/MAPK signaling pathways and primarily acts on LCK, RAS, and MEK. A network was constructed using bioactive ingredients, targets, and pathways to determine the mechanism underlying JGT treatment of ALI.
