Abstract We have investigated the atomic and molecular oxygen adsorptions on the various sites of the BaO (100) surface with both cluster models and the periodic slab models. We found that the atomic oxygen prefers to adsorb on the surface O2- to form the closed-shell peroxides with the binding energies of 83-88 kcal/mol. Such a high exothermicity provides a large driving force for the dissociation of molecular O2 on the BaO surfaces. As molecular oxygen approaches the BaO surfaces, the triplet ground state O2 molecule first binds electrostatically on top of the surface Ba2+ site. It further quenches to the singlet potential energy surface to form a covalently bonded O3(2-) species. We proposed a plausible pathway in which the O3(2-) species acts as the key precursor for further dissociation, leading eventually to the formation of surface peroxides O2(2-). This mechanism is helpful for the understanding of a series of related catalytic processes such as the oxidative coupling of methane, the NOx storage reduction, etc.

Abstract: ... determination of psoralen and isopsoralen in plasma and Chinese medicine "Xian Ling Gu Bao" capsule (XLGBC ...

Abstract A method using high performance liquid chromatography with photodiode-array detection (HPLC-DAD) coupled with alternating trilinear decomposition (ATLD) algorithm was proposed for simultaneous determination of psoralen and isopsoralen in plasma and Chinese medicine "Xian Ling Gu Bao" capsule (XLGBC). In this paper, the application of ATLD algorithm into traditional chromatographic method can handle this problem that the chromatographic and spectral peaks are heavily overlapped among the analytes and even between the analytes and interferences from the background matrices. A simple improvement of chromatographic condition like mobile phase is not enough to realize effective separation for the two isomeric compounds, especially in the presence of interferences. However, the ATLD algorithm utilized "mathematical separation" instead of partial "physical or chemical separation" to directly determine the spectral profiles of the analytes of interests in complex system. The satisfactory quantification results have been gained with simple mobile phase. In the analysis of real Chinese medicine samples, the accuracy of the concentrations which were obtained by ATLD was also validated by HPLC-MS method.

Abstract Stratigraphic determination of the Anthropocene, the "Great Acceleration", requires more key globally synchronous stratigraphic markers which reflect the significant human impacts on Earth. Lacustrine sediment magnetic characteristics are of considerable importance in Anthropocene studies because they respond sensitively to environmental changes. There are many shallow lakes in the Songnen Plain (SNP) in northeast China, which are conducive to obtaining Anthropocene sedimentary records. This study explored magnetic materials in lacustrine sediment responses to environmental evolution impact by human activities on the SNP by measuring magnetic parameters in dated sediment cores from 5 shallow lakes in the SNP, northeast China. The results revealed that detrital magnetite and hematite dominated the magnetic minerals in lake sediments. The persistently low value of magnetic susceptibility might be caused by the low content of natural ferrimagnetic minerals in Quaternary fluvial deposits and humus-rich black soil in the catchment, and the loss of magnetic materials during the transport process. In Lake Longjiangpao (LJP), the magnetic concentrations significantly responded to regional precipitation, whereas in the other 4 lakes in the center of the plain, the parameters tended to reflect complex human activities. However, the isothermal remanent magnetization ratio (S

Abstract As an essential auxiliary tool for acoustic emission (AE) detection, waveguide rods are widely used in testing situations where sensors cannot contact the specimens directly, such as high temperature, cryogenic, corrosion, radiation, etc. However, the AE signal attenuation in waveguide rod makes the risk of missing weak acoustic emission events in damage detection, which limits the application of waveguide rods. Therefore, in this work, a novel waveguide rod was presented based on acoustic black hole (ABH) theory to enhance the AE signal before reaching the sensor through the energy convergence effect of the ABH. Firstly, the geometric configuration of the waveguide rod with ABH was designed. The AE signal enhancement effect of the ABH waveguide rod was verified by comparing the amplitude of the AE signal for the traditional waveguide rod and the ABH waveguide rod by the finite element method. Secondly, the influence on the geometric parameters of the ABH waveguide rod for the AE signal enhancement effect was analyzed. The selection method of geometric parameters and the enhancement method of the AE signal with specific frequency bands were proposed to obtain expected AE signal enhancement results. Finally, the pencil-lead breaking experiments were implemented to verify the effectiveness of finite element method and the AE signal enhancement effect of ABH waveguide rod. The results show that the waveguide rod with ABH given in this paper has a significant AE signal enhancement effect and a good application prospect in structural acoustic emission health monitoring.
