Abstract Background: The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to determine the pattern of the ABO and rhesus D (RhD) blood group distribution among voluntary blood donors attending five blood donation centers at Nigist Eleni Mohammed General Hospital in Hossana, Ethiopia.
Methods: A total of 1,120 participants who fulfilled the "who can give blood" criteria of the World Health Organization were selected randomly. Blood samples were collected, transported to the laboratory, and analyzed for ABO and RhD typing. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square correlation analysis.
Results: The study found that the O blood group was the most prevalent (39.0%), followed by A (32.2%), B (22.5%), and AB (6.4%). When considering both the ABO and Rh blood groups together, 92.9% of blood donors were RhD positive, while only 7.1% were RhD negative. The distribution pattern of the ABO blood groups in Gurage Zone, Hadiya Zone, Kembata Zone, and Silte Zone showed that the O blood group was the most prevalent, followed by A, B, and AB, in that order. Conversely, the ABO blood group distribution pattern in Halaba Zone was A > O > B > AB. Civil servants from different occupational statuses were the most dominant voluntary blood donors, accounting for 53.2%, followed by students from different high schools and universities (41.9%), self-employed individuals (4.1%), and others (0.7%). The ABO blood group system had observed allele frequencies significantly different from the expected frequencies (
Conclusion: This study highlights the regional ABO and RhD blood group variations in Ethiopia, noting disparities from expected ABO allele frequencies, and identifies the O blood group predominance among donors with a high RhD-positive prevalence.

Abstract Acute liver failure is defined as a rapid deterioration in liver function, manifested by symptoms and signs of hepatic encephalopathy and disturbed synthetic function in a patient without Pre-existing cirrhosis and with an illness of less than 26 weeks duration. Mushroom poisoning as a cause of acute liver injury is rare but associated with deadly outcomes if not early recognized and treated. The mortality is very high in the case of amatoxin-containing mushrooms ingestion and liver transplantation is the only lifesaving option. Therefore, early recognition of a suspected patient who came with features of mushroom-related food poisoning, timely referral to a liver transplantation center, and adequate supportive management remain the main approaches of management in a patient with acute liver injury. We present a patient with gastroenteritis who ingested wild mushroom 14 hours prior to hospital admission with subsequent severe acute liver failure due to mushroom poisoning, successfully treated with urgent liver transplantation. This case study highlighted that careful evaluation of the symptoms and signs of acute liver failure in a patient with a history of mushroom ingestion can result in early referral to a liver transplant center, especially if the patient is systemically unwell.

Abstract Estimation of population mean is a determined subject issue in sampling surveys and many efforts have been paid by various researchers to enhance the precision of the estimates by utilizing the correlated auxiliary information. In connection with this, we suggest an improved exponential ratio-cum-ratio estimator using transformed auxiliary variables under ranked set sampling scheme. Theoretical comparison between estimators is made in terms of mean square errors (

Abstract Introduction: Mammary duct ectasia is a common clinical condition characterized by abnormal dilatation of the central milk ducts with chronic inflammation and fibrosis, it may affect one or both breasts. Patients may be completely asymptomatic or have mastalgia or nipple discharge which is usually from multiple ducts. It mostly affects females and is very rare in males.
Patients and methods: This is a case control study which included 236 females grouped into two equal groups, the first group were patients with duct ectasia compared and the other one apparently healthy females and both groups were compared regarding different characteristics.
Results: Most patients were young with a mean age of 35 years, a most of them were overweight (42.4%) and obese (33.1%). Most were menstruating (86.4%) with regular cycles (79.7%). Most patients had breast pain (67.8%), tenderness (54.2%), and no nodularity (98.3%). About 47.5% had nipple discharge mostly from multiple ducts (43.2%), 52.5% had no discharge. There was a significant correlation between the development of duct ectasia and each of marital status, lactational status, coffee consumption, pain, nodularity, and breast tenderness (P values 0.026, 0.016, 0.034, 0.000, 0.000, and 0.000).
Conclusion: Duct ectasia is a very common complaint in females, it is commoner in overweight and obese females, married females and those with history of lactation. Coffee consumption may be a cause. The regularity of the menstruation has no correlation with its development. The presence of mastalgia, tenderness, and nodularity are highly suggestive for the disease.

Abstract Parasitic haemoprotozoan and gastrointestinal (GI) diseases are a big issue in animal husbandry and one of the most significant causes for livestock economic losses in underdeveloped countries. This study aimed to record preliminary information on the prevalence of haemoprotozoan and gastrointestinal parasites of Awassi breed of sheep imported from Syria into Sulaymaniyah province, Iraq. Faecal and blood samples were randomly collected from a total of 714 sheep of both sexes from June to September 2019. Giemsa staining technique, direct faecal smear, saturated salt flotation method, and simple sedimentation technique, were applied to diagnose the parasitic stages in the coprological and blood specimens. The overall prevalence rate was 75.63%. Single and mixed infection rates of parasites were 55.46%, and 20.16%, respectively. GI parasites and haemoprotozoan infection rates were 78.15%, and 20.16%, respectively. Of all parasites, the most prevalent was Eimeria spp. (68%), followed by Babesia spp. (20.15%), Balantidium coli (5.90%), Fasciola hepatica (2.50%), and strongyles (1.7%). The prevalence rates for GI parasites and haemoprotozoa varied considerably in regard to sex categories. It is recommended that strict quarantine procedures, adequate parasitological monitoring, and therapeutic approaches should be implemented to animals transported from bordering countries to minimize the incidence of parasite infection.
