Abstract This study explores the influence of forecasted earnings to price ratio (E/P) and ROE to explain the part of the variation in the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) returns. The study analyzed the explanatory capacity of fundamental, risk, and combined valuation approaches variables on comparative mode between static and dynamic models with the induction of un-balanced panel data estimation. A linear dynamic panel technique is being undertaken to forecast the variables. The research findings indicate that the forecasted E/P ratio and ROE significantly explain the variation in SSE stock return and remain highly statistically significant after incorporating risk proxy variables. Moreover, the author also confirms the existence of size, momentum, liquidity, and dividend yield in the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The study introduces the fundamental valuation approach to the Chinese market based on its unique features and designs a log-linear model, which comprises forecasted E/P and ROE in addition to current E/P as an estimator for future stock returns. The incorporation of Driscoll and Kraay standard errors (DKSE) and Panel Corrected standard error (PCSE) under static while difference and system GMM under the scope of dynamic panel estimation is considered to be another contribution of the study.

Abstract Background and objectives Appendicitis is a frequent cause of abdominal pain. Because of the limited availability of imaging services in many medical centers and an urge to reduce the substantial number of unnecessary appendectomies, several clinical diagnostic tools have been constructed. A novel diagnostic tool, referred to as the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Appendicitis (RIPASA) score, has been created to assist in identifying acute appendicitis (AA) in Asian nations. The study aimed to assess the correlation between RIPASA scores and the severity of appendicitis as determined by pathological examination. Materials and methods The study was a prospective observational investigation undertaken in the Department of General Surgery at Muslim education society (MES) Medical College Perinthalmanna over 12 months. The study included all patients who had been diagnosed with AA and underwent appendectomy, provided they satisfied both the inclusion and exclusion criteria. An analysis was conducted on a convenience sample of 225 individuals using a prestructured proforma. The RIPASA scores were estimated before their surgery, taking into account their age, gender, symptoms, physical examination findings, and laboratory findings. These scores were subsequently contrasted with the histopathological results obtained after the appendectomy. The individuals were categorized into three groups according to their RIPASA scores. The lower-score category, scores between 4 and 7. The intermediate-score category consists of scores ranging from 7.5 to 11.5, while the higher-score category includes scores of 12 and above. These scores are correlated with the histopathology report (HPR) to determine the presence of appendicitis, perforated appendix, appendicular abscess, or the absence of pathology observed. Results The study population comprised of 137 (60.9%) males and 88 (39.1%) females. Among these, 177 individuals (78.7%) were younger than 40 years, while 48 individuals (21.3%) were older than 40 years. Out of 225 cases, 146 cases were AA (64.9%), 27 (12%) appendicular abscess cases, and 41 (18.2%) appendicular perforation cases. The normal appendix was noted in 11 out of 225 cases in the low-score group. The association between the histopathological report and RIPASA score was found to be statistically highly significant (p=0.000). In the low-score group, there were 14 cases of appendicitis (53.8%), one case of appendicular abscess (3.8%), a total of 11 cases without pathology observed (42.3%), and no reported instances of appendicular perforation. In the intermediate-score category, there were 121 cases of appendicitis (89.6%), 12 cases of appendicular abscess (8.9%), 2 cases of appendicular perforation (1.5%), and no reported cases in the non-pathology category. Among the high-score category, there were 11 cases of appendicitis (17.2%), 14 cases of appendicular abscess (21.9%), 39 cases of appendicular perforation (60.9%), and no reported instances of negative appendectomy. Conclusion The study has shown that the RIPASA scoring system had a high diagnostic efficacy in identifying AA. This scoring system is an effective, dependable, cost-effective, noninvasive, reproducible, and safe diagnostic technique that does not require additional expenses or concerns.

Abstract Background: The outcome of clinical trials in neurodegeneration can be highly uncertain due to the presence of a strong placebo effect.
Objectives: To develop a longitudinal model that can enhance the success of future Parkinson's disease trials by quantifying trial-to-trial variations in placebo and active treatment response.
Methods: A longitudinal model-based meta-analysis was conducted on the total score of Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) Parts 1, 2, and 3. The analysis included aggregate data from 66 arms (observational [4], placebo [28], or investigational-drug-treated [34]) from 4 observational studies and 17 interventional trials. Inter-study variabilities in key parameters were estimated. Residual variability was weighted by the size of study arms.
Results: The baseline total UPDRS was estimated to average at 24.5 points. Disease score was estimated to worsen by 3.90 points/year for the duration of the treatments; whilst notably, arms with a lower baseline progressed faster. The model captured the transient nature of the placebo response and sustained symptomatic drug effect. Both placebo and drug effects peaked within 2 months; although, 1 year was needed to observe the full treatment difference. Across these studies, the progression rate varied by 59.4%, the half-life for offset of placebo response varied by 79.4%, and the amplitude for drug effect varied by 105.3%.
Conclusion: The longitudinal model-based meta-analysis describes UPDRS progression rate, captures the dynamics of the placebo response, quantifies the effect size of the available therapies, and sets the expectation of uncertainty for future trials. The findings provide informative priors to enhance the rigor and success of future trials of promising agents, including potential disease modifiers. © 2023 GSK. Abstract The growing landscape of laser applications in ∼ 2 μm spectral region leads to the development of novel transparent media that provide low attenuation solutions for high power laser applications. This includes investigating glassy media such as heavy metal oxides (e.g. tellurite and germanate), fluoride and chalcogenides as an alternative to the most efficient and widely utilized silica glass. This review article discusses the potential of a heavy metal oxide lead-germanate glass (GeO2-PbO-Ga2O3–Na2O) for ∼ 2.1 μm laser applications, with a focus on our contribution to the field. Firstly, a comparative study of commercially available silicates and fluorides with germanate glass is presented to reveal germanate to be a favorable material for 2.1 μm laser applications. Secondly, as our contribution to the field, we present the development of the first ∼ 2.1 μm small cavity single frequency laser action in a Ho3+ doped GPGN glass that verifies its capability for ∼ 2 μm laser applications and beyond.

Abstract Background: The elevated risk of serious complications like myocarditis and pericarditis after COVID-19 vaccination, especially in adolescent has been reported in some instances that need to be tested in regional populations and different ethnicity groups. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the side effects, hesitancy, and effectiveness outcomes following COVID-19 vaccination among children in Pakistan.
Methods: The study was planned using a cross-sectional design and data from Children and Adolescents (CA) was collected through a convenient sampling method using a validated questionnaire between February to July 2022. A total of 1,108 CA between the age of 12-18 years who received one or two doses of vaccine were selected and data were collected through direct interviews with respondents.
Results: The results showed that among 99.8% of respondents who received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, 72.3% of respondents were partially vaccinated (with one dose) while 27.7% were fully vaccinated (with two doses). COVID vaccination regime had a favorable safety profile in children as compared to adults. Vaccine hesitancy in children was reported to be 52.4% and the most common reasons for hesitance were the assumption that the vaccine is not safe (23.7%), the vaccine is not required (19.6%) and the vaccine is not effective (10.4%). The reported side effects were mainly mild (88.5%) followed by moderate (10.6%) and only 0.8% were of severe intensity. Post-vaccination local side effects of mild intensity were common with an onset of an average of 24 h (68%) and a duration of 2-3 days (60.6%). The reported side effects were significantly associated with gender (
Conclusion: COVID-19 vaccine by Pfizer approved by the FDA for use in CA 12-18 years of age was well tolerated with a good safety profile and no serious adverse drug reactions were reported. The vaccine side effects were mild (88.5%) and lasted for an average of 2-3 days only (60.4%). The vaccine was effective in safeguarding Children against COVID-19 infection.
