Abstract Reconstruction of soft-tissue defects in the head and face region requires attention to both functional and aesthetic outcomes. In general, large postburn scars are still a daunting challenge for plastic surgeons. Various types of free flaps were previously performed for head and face reconstruction, including the anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap. However, to fully cover large and complex defects, the skin pedicle needs a sufficient width. Thus, we have combined dual ALT flaps that were harvested from both the lateral thighs. In this article, we described the case of a 49-year-old female who was presented with a severe scar on the right side of the head and face and zygomatic along with the exposure of temporal bones after extensive burns. Two ALT flaps were supplied by perforators of the descending branches of lateral circumflex femoral arteries. These two source arteries were anastomosed end-to-end to merge into a chimeric flap. The 6-month follow-up revealed an acceptable aesthetic outcome. The effectiveness of the ALT chimeric flap for reconstructing head and face postburn contracture is discussed.

Abstract In Vietnamese culture, bamboo holds deep symbolic significance. However, in recent years, as a result of evolving usage patterns and the introduction of alternative materials in the face of a rapidly developing modern market economy, industrialisation, and urbanisation, bamboo's economic and social value has dwindled. Nevertheless, with the pressing challenges of climate change, environmental pollution, and the depletion of natural resources, bamboo is experiencing a resurgence in importance within the lives of Vietnamese people. Ba Be district, situated in Bac Kan province, stands as one of the country's most impoverished regions. Natural bamboo thrives in 14 out of 15 communes, with Dong Phuc commune being the exception. Planted bamboo is found in 14 out of 15 communes, excluding Cho Ra town, covering approximately 7.9 % of the entire district's natural area (NA). The district's vast terrain, featuring slopes exceeding 15°, presents formidable obstacles to socio-economic development. This study aims to shed light on the distribution of bamboo forests in Ba Be district and presents an assessment of bamboo's suitability within its natural surroundings. The study employs the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method and spatial statistics, using remote sensing data supplied by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Ba Be district. The results demonstrate that 60 % of Ba Be district's NA is conducive to bamboo cultivation and growth. The findings of this research provide local authorities with a scientifically grounded basis for strategic planning, enabling bamboo to emerge as a pivotal resource within production forests. This approach outlines the ideal spatial distribution for bamboo cultivation and development, ultimately fostering the sustainable utilisation of local natural resources to support both immediate and long-term local socio-economic development.

Abstract Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) constitute a class of crystalline porous materials employed in storage and energy conversion applications. MOFs possess characteristics that render them ideal in the preparation of electrocatalysts, and exhibit excellent performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, H-Ni/NiO/C catalysts were synthesized from a Ni-based MOF hollow structure via a two-step process involving carbonization and oxidation. Interestingly, the performance of the H-Ni/NiO/C catalyst was superior to those of H-Ni/C, H-NiO/C, and NH-Ni/NiO/C catalysts for the HER. Notably, H-Ni/NiO/C exhibited the best electrocatalytic activity for the HER, with a low overpotential of 87 mV for 10 mA cm

Abstract Abstract Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) constitute a class of crystalline porous materials employed in storage and energy conversion applications. MOFs possess characteristics that render them ideal in the preparation of electrocatalysts, and exhibit excellent performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, H–Ni/NiO/C catalysts were synthesized from a Ni-based MOF hollow structure via a two-step process involving carbonization and oxidation. Interestingly, the performance of the H–Ni/NiO/C catalyst was superior to those of H–Ni/C, H–NiO/C, and NH–Ni/NiO/C catalysts for the HER. Notably, H–Ni/NiO/C exhibited the best electrocatalytic activity for the HER, with a low overpotential of 87 mV for 10 mA cm−2 and a Tafel slope of 91.7 mV dec−1. The high performance is ascribed to the synergistic effect of the metal/metal oxide and hollow architecture, which is favorable for breaking the H–OH bond, forming hydrogen atoms, and enabling charge transport. These results indicate that the employed approach is promising for fabricating cost-effective catalysts for hydrogen production in alkaline media.
