Abstract We agree that smoking might be a risk factor for the severity of COVID-19, but in our previous study, smoking was not so robust compared with our conclusion. Also, we strongly agreed that COVID-19 patients with diabetes or other chronic diseases might worsen the situation of the disease. But these factors were out of the scope of our study and we had published other research on this topic related to diabetes. Because of the limited sample size and original medical records, our study could not cover many factors. But we wish our study will be a useful and meaningful pilot study for future studies.

Abstract ObjectiveTo examine the health benefits of Chan-Chuang and resistance exercise.MethodsWe deployed an 8-week randomized controlled trial, in which 76 male methamphetamine users were allocated to control (n = 25), Chan-Chuang (n = 26), and residence exercise groups (n = 25). Our primary outcomes were drug craving, mental wellbeing, sleep quality, heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP). Our secondary outcomes were body mass index (BMI), vital capacity, grip strength, balance, and vertical jump.ResultsChan-Chuang exercise resulted in reduced HR, DBP, and MAP, along with improvements in vital capacity, grip strength, and balance compared to the control group. Resistance exercise reduced SBP and MAP, and also improved vital capacity, grip strength, balance, and vertical jump.ConclusionThese findings may support the role of Chan-Chuang and resistance exercise in maintaining the physical fitness of methamphetamine users at mandatory detention centers.

Abstract Typhoons are known to substantially influence the coastal circulation and the associated biogeochemical processes. The transport of Changjiang diluted water (CDW), an important source to the coastal current in the East China Sea (ECS), varies markedly under the influence of typhoons. This study quantitively details the downcoast transport of CDW driven by Typhoon Chan‐Hom in the summer of 2015. Salinity measurements 3 days after the typhoon's passage showed the presence of a large volume of low‐salinity water, up to 70‐km wide and 20‐m thick along the Zhejiang‐Fujian coastal area with an estimated freshwater volume of 3.7 × 10¹⁰ m³. A three‐endmember mixing model shows that the CDW's contribution to the study area's surface waters (<10 m) immediately after the typhoon was as high as 40% (average 32%), much greater than the contribution under normal summer conditions of 8% (average 3%). The vast spreading of CDW along the Zhejiang‐Fujian coast created a strong stratification in the upper water column that limited the diffusion of CDW in the study area. The calculated and observed results suggest that these abnormal low‐salinity water could stay in the study area for 13–21 days. Additional nutrients in the CDW elevated the Chlorophyll‐a concentration in the upper water column (mean 3.74 mg m⁻³) and produced large amount of particulate organic carbon.

Abstract C-N bond formation takes on a critical significance in reactions of organic synthesis, material production and pharmaceutical manufactory. Chan-Lam has proposed a useful methodology to furnish secondary arylamides under mild conditions. However, when chiral sulfinamides serve as the coupling precursors, the Cu-catalyzed coupling reaction is found with low efficacy. Complex side-products are generated under classic conditions. Moreover, it led to the racemization of the coupling product. In this study, an optimized Ni-catalyzed Chan-Lam type coupling conditions were proposed, which resulted in clean conversion from chiral sulfinamides and arylboronic acids to offer N-aryl sulfinamides efficiently and enantioretentively. Abstract: ... waves, current, and sediment to investigate the sediment dynamics in Hangzhou Bay during Typhoon Chan ...

Abstract Typhoons are extreme weather events that cause serious social and economic losses in coastal and estuarine areas worldwide. Understanding the impact of typhoons on sediment dynamics is essential for protecting coastal areas from these marine disasters. Hangzhou Bay is macro-tidal, turbid, and frequently affected by strong typhoons. In this study, we established and validated a three-dimensional model coupling waves, current, and sediment to investigate the sediment dynamics in Hangzhou Bay during Typhoon Chan-hom. The results showed that high suspended sediment concentration (SSC) areas during the typhoon were mainly located at the bay head and near the southern shore near the Andong tidal flat. The maximum bottom SSC was at least twice that near the surface. The peak bottom SSC values at the peak flood (6 g/L) were larger than those at the peak ebb (5 g/L) owing to the stronger current velocity at peak flood. The SSC near the northern shore was larger at the peak flood than at other times, and the SSC was high at the southern shore at peak ebb at the cross-section near the Andong tidal flat. The typhoon impacted SSC by changing the bottom stress. SSC was most influenced by wave action, followed by wind stress action, and was least influenced by air pressure action, which contributed 71.3%, 69.9%, and 1.8% to the bottom stress, respectively. Our findings are scientifically important for research on geomorphological evolution and are practically meaningful for coastal management.

Abstract: ... in the synthesis of N-vinyl cinnamaldehyde nitrones as only Z-isomers in good yields through the Chan-Lam reaction ...

Abstract A type of quinoxaline-derived tridentate N,N,O-ligand was synthesized in good to excellent yields over three steps through iodination of 2-aryl indoles, sequential Kornblum-type oxidation with DMSO, and capture by 1,2-diaminobenzenes. The prepared atropisomeric N,N,O-ligand was successfully applied in the synthesis of N-vinyl cinnamaldehyde nitrones as only Z-isomers in good yields through the Chan-Lam reaction. The method features an easily accessed tunable tridentate N,N,O-ligand, broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and high Z-isomer for N-vinyl nitrones.

Abstract Copper-catalyzed cascade cyclization reactions between alkenyl boronic esters and N-H-based nucleophiles have been established, providing new approaches for one-pot assembly of azacycles. Following the Chan-Evans-Lam C-N couplings, the cyclization processes occur via divergent pathways based on the utilized substrates, affording hydroamination product dihydroquinazolin-4-ones or aromatization product quinolines. Via this one-pot C-N coupling/annulation cascade, the target substituted azacycles can be obtained in moderate to good yields in each case.
