Abstract Mercury (Hg) is a serious metal environmental pollutant. HgCl2 exposure causes pyroptosis. When macrophages are severely stimulated, they often undergo M1 polarization and release inflammatory factors. However, the mechanisms by which mercuric chloride exposure induces macrophage apoptosis, M1 polarization, and inflammatory factors remain unclear. HD11 cells were exposed to different concentrations of Hg chloride (180, 210 and 240 nM HgCl2). The results showed that mercury chloride exposure up-regulated ROS, C-Nrf2 and its downstream factors (NQO1 and HO-1), and down-regulated N-Nrf2. In addition, the expressions of focal death-related indicators (Caspase-1, NLRP3, GSDMD, etc.), M1 polarization marker CD86 and inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-1β) increased, and the above changes were related to mercury. Oxidative stress inhibitor (NAC) can block ROS/ NrF2-mediated oxidative stress, inhibit mercury-induced pyroptosis and M1 polarization, and effectively reduce the release of inflammatory factors. The addition of Vx-765 to inhibit pyroptosis can effectively alleviate M1 polarization of HD11 cells and reduce the expression of inflammatory factors. HgCl2 mediates pyroptosis of HD11 cells by regulating ROS/Nrf2/NLRP3, promoting M1 polarization and the release of inflammatory factors.

Abstract Whether health insurance reduces alcohol consumption has been debated. To identify it, the authors used three-wave balance panel data from China Health and Nutrition Survey and applied a two-way fixed-effect model. The authors found that (1) health insurance reduces alcohol consumption, (2) the effect would be deducted when they have been diagnosed with diabetes, (3) the heterogeneity existed between old and young individuals as well as rural and urban areas, those old individuals would behave more cautious, and urban individuals would consume more alcohol. This study identified the effects of health insurance and the moderating effect of diabetes, which were helpful for policymakers to optimize health insurance policy to ensure the sustainability of health insurance and suggested that primary medical staff should assist patients to establish healthy living habits and reduce their risky behaviors.

Abstract We propose a dual-polarization microring resonator that can simultaneously measure refractive index and pressure. Since the transverse electric (TE) mode and the transverse magnetic (TM) mode of a silicon waveguide have different energy distributions, TE and TM polarization have significant differences in sensitivity to environmental refractive index and pressure changes. Different responses to external refractive index and pressure changes can be obtained by simultaneously exciting TE and TM modes in a microring resonator. The refractive index sensitivities obtained in the experiment were 132.97 and 40.54 nm/RIU; the pressure sensitivities were 1.41 and 1.59 pm/KPa, respectively. By inversion of the second-order sensitivity matrix, it is verified that the effective refractive index and pressure response can be obtained simultaneously through a single measurement to realize the dual-parameter sensing of the surrounding refractive index and the pressure of the device structure.

Abstract In recent years, research on tetracycline antibiotics has gradually shifted from their antibacterial effects to anticancer effects. Doxycycline, minocycline, and tigecycline as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved tetracycline antibiotics have been the main subjects of studies. Evidence indicated that they have anticancer properties and are able to control cancer progression through different mechanisms, such as anti-proliferation, anti-metastasis, and promotion of autophagy or apoptosis. In addition, studies have shown that these three tetracycline antibiotics can be utilized in conjunction with chemotherapeutic and targeted drugs to inhibit cancer progression and improve the quality of patient survival. Therefore, doxycycline, minocycline, and tigecycline are taken as examples in this work. Their mechanisms of action in different cancers and related combination therapies are introduced. Their current roles in alleviating the suffering of patients undergoing chemotherapy when used as adjuvant drugs in clinical treatment are also described. Finally, the research gaps and potential research directions at this stage are briefly summarized.

Abstract Children's dental fear (CDF) has become one of the main reasons affecting the quality of dental treatment. In order to reduce the incidence of CDF in China before and after children's dental visits, this review applies literature analysis and empirical summary methods to analyze and summarize academic discussions on this topic, including occurrence mechanism, prevention guidance, and the conclusion that the occurrence and prevention of CDF is closely related with children's internal characteristics and external influences. In the end, we propose a breakthrough of combining the CFSS-DS scale and three-grade prevention theory together in the future to provide new ideas and hypotheses for the prevention of CDF.

Abstract Withanolides are a class of natural products with a steroidal lactone structure that exhibit a broad spectrum of anti-cancer effects. To date, several studies have shown that their possible mechanisms in cancer development and progression are associated with the regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Withanolides can also attenuate inflammatory responses, as well as modulate the genomic instability and energy metabolism of cancer cells. In addition, they may improve the safety and efficacy of cancer treatments as adjuvants to traditional cancer therapeutics. Herein, we summarize the molecular targets and mechanisms of withanolides in different cancers, as well as their current clinical studies on them.
