Abstract Background: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical application of the preoperative prealbumin-to-fibrinogen ratio (PFR) in the clinical diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients and its prognostic value.
Methods: The clinical and laboratory data of 269 HCC patients undergoing surgical treatment from January 2012 to January 2017 in Taizhou Hospital were retrospectively analysed. The Cox regression model was used to analyse the correlation between the PFR and other clinicopathological factors in overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS).
Results: Cox regression analysis showed that the PFR (hazard ratio (HR)=2.123; 95% confidence interval (95% CI), 1.271-3.547; P=0.004) was an independent risk factor affecting the OS of HCC patients. Furthermore, a nomogram was built based on these risk factors. The C-index for the OS nomogram was 0.715.
Conclusions: Nomograms based on the PFR can be recommended as the correct and actual model to evaluate the prognosis of patients with HCC.

Abstract Introduction: Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare noninfectious neutrophilic skin disease. The diagnosis of PG is mainly based on clinical manifestations. Therefore, the clinical features of PG are important for confirming the diagnosis of this disease. Herein, the clinical data of 2 young males with PG complicated with hematological malignancies were reported, and the literature were reviewed.
Case presentation: The first case was a 22-year-old male who was admitted due to a systemic rash, headache, and fever. Physical examination showed black scabs on the skins of the extremities, trunk, scalp, and face. Biopsy of the skin lesion showed epidermal edema, spongy formation, neutrophil infiltration, acute and chronic inflammatory cell infiltration in the dermis, showing purulent inflammation with epidermal erosion. The bone marrow biopsy showed obviously active proliferation of nucleated cells, granulocytes at various stages, abnormal morphological neutrophils, and occasionally observed young red blood cells. The diagnosis of PG and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML-0) was made. The second case was a 28-year-old male who presented a swollen, painful right calf following injury and then developed ulcers on skin and soft tissues. Bone marrow biopsy showed obviously active nucleated cell proliferation, suggesting a myeloid tumor. He was also diagnosed with PG and hematological malignancies. They both received hormone and antiinfection therapy. After treatment, their body temperature, infection, and skin lesions were improved. However, both of them were readmitted and had a poor prognosis.
Conclusions: PG may be associated with hematological malignancies. For patients with typical skin lesions and obvious abnormal blood routines, it is necessary to investigate the possibility of PG with hematological malignancies.

Abstract Background: We investigated the prognostic value of the preoperative lymphocyte-to-mononuclear ratio (LMR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in a large cohort of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: Clinical-pathological data from 507 NSCLC patients at Taizhou Hospital of Zhejiang Province between 2010 and 2016 were retrospectively evaluated. X-tile software was used to assess the optimal cutoff levels for LMR and PLR. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were used to assess the prognostic factors.
Results: The median follow-up duration after surgical resection was 34.5 months. Patients were stratified into 2 groups by LMR (2.6 and > 2.6) and PLR (179.6 and > 179.6). Our results revealed that lower LMR (HR = 3.163 (1.821-5.493), P = 0.000), age (HR = 2.252 (1.412-3.592), P = 0.001), T stage (HR = 3.749 (2.275-6.179), P = 0.000), N stage (HR = 3.106 (1.967-4.902), P = 0.000), and cut edge (HR = 3.830 (1.077-13.618), P = 0.038) were considered to be independent indicators for overall survival (OS) of NSCLC patients. For disease-free survival (DFS), age, sex, T stage, N stage, LMR and cut edge were verified to be independent prognostic factors in patients with NSCLC.
Conclusions: In the study cohort, reduced LMR was a robust independent predictor for both OS and DFS in patients with NSCLC who underwent surgical resection.

Abstract Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of combined preoperative fibrinogen-albumin ratio and platelet-lymphocyte ratio score (FAR-PLR score) in breast cancer, and to establish a nomogram based on the score as well as clinicopathological factors to predict the prognosis of breast cancer.
Methods: The study cohort included 707 breast cancer patients who underwent curative resection in Taizhou Hospital of Zhejiang Province, China from January 2010 to April 2016. FAR and PLR increased by 2 at the same time, only one index increased by 1, and none increased by 0. The relationship of preoperative FAR-PLR score with overall survival time (OS) and disease free survival time (DFS) in breast cancer was analyzed by log-rank test and COX proportional risk regression model, and a nomogram was established based on the results of multivariate analysis.
Results: The average patient follow-up time was 61.2 months. The FAR-PLR score was conversely correlated with OS and DFS (P < 0.001). In the stage I-II group and III group, the FAR-PLR scores were significantly different among high, medium and low groups of OS and DFS (P < 0.01). FAR-PLR score was also found to be a powerful predictor of prognosis in Luminal B-like subtype, Her-2 overexpression subtype, and triple-negative subtype breast cancers; the higher the FAR-PLR score, the worse the prognosis. Forest charts and multivariate COX proportional risk regression model analysis showed that preoperative FAR-PLR score was an independent risk factor of OS (HR = 1.759, 95%CI = 1.410-2.210, P = 0.000) and DFS (HR = 1.729, 95%CI = 1.385-2.158, P = 0.000) in breast cancer. Based on the COX regression analysis of multiple factors, a nomogram prediction model for the survival of breast cancer was established. The calibration curve analysis indicated that the nomogram results were highly consistent between predicted and actual outcomes. Compared to stage (C-index of OS and DFS were 0.583 and 0.588 respectively), PR (C-index of OS and DFS were 0.592 and 0.592 respectively) and FAR-PLR score (C-index of OS and DFS were 0.592 and 0.591 respectively), the nomogram showed better predictive accuracy (C-index of OS and DFS were 0.652 and 0.651 respectively).
Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that preoperative FAR-PLR score may be a potential new biomarker for predicting survival and prognosis of breast cancer. A prognostic nomogram model based on preoperative FAR-PLR score and clinicopathological factors may help doctors make better clinical decisions for breast cancer treatment.

Abstract While previous studies have shown camelina drought tolerance relative to other oilseed crops, drought has been documented to severely influence the productivity of camelina. To date, little information is available on the drought tolerance of camelina genotypes. This study was conducted to evaluate drought tolerance in fifteen camelina genotypes and test the alleviative effect of nanoparticles on PEG-induced water deficit stress (WDS) at the whole-plant level at the Yangzhou University Pratacultural Science Experimental Station in September 2021. Four different degrees of WDS were induced by a range of PEG solution concentrations (0, 16.7, 25.0, 37.5, and 56.3 mM). A petri dish study determined that CamK8 and CamK9 (GR₅₀ = 19.0 and 34.3 mM, respectively) were the most sensitive and tolerant genotypes, respectively, to PEG-induced WDS. Results from the whole-plant test showed that the foliar application of MWCNTs (dose: 50 or 100 mg L⁻¹) or nano-Se (dose: 5 or 10 mg L⁻¹) alleviated the adverse effect of PEG-induced WDS, and increased the camelina plant height (ranges: 51.1–56.3 cm) and crop yield (ranges: 0.11–0.14 g plant⁻¹) compared with untreated control and PEG-treated plants (height: 43.5–56.9 cm; yield: 0.06–0.12 g plant⁻¹) in CamK8 without affecting the principal fatty acid composition and groups in camelina oil. The results of this study demonstrated that applying MWCNTs or nano-Se could alleviate WDS and maintain seed yield in camelina, providing the possibility of using these nanoparticles to manage WDS in agricultural practices.

Abstract Desmodium intortum(Mill.) Urb. is an important source of organic fertilizers, but its utilization value has not been developed favorably. The utilization of polyvinyl alcohol is optimized, combined with the film-forming properties of polyvinyl alcohol, to prepare a high-quality composite film. When the nanocellulose content reached 0.8 %, the tensile stress reaches the maximum value, and the composite film is not easily torn. The addition of NCC reduces the crystallinity of the PVA component and increases the initial decomposition temperature of the alcohol-nanocellulose composite film. The thermal decomposition rate of the PVA/NCC composite film is slightly lower than that of the pure PVA film, indicating that the addition of NCC improves the heat resistance of the PVA film. The electron microscope results show that PVA has good compatibility with NCC. The release results of tetracycline hydrochloride showed that when the nanocellulose content reached 0.8 %, the loading rate reached 83.07 %. R2 value of the two materials is 0.99 under the zero-order model fitting, which suggest the release process is transported by Supercase-II transport kinetics. Through the inhibition zone and cytotoxicity, it is proved that this material has a certain bacteriostatic effect and good cytocompatibility.

Abstract Agronomic performance evaluations of spring- and fall-seeded camelina [Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz] genotypes in China are limited despite a long tradition of growing this crop in the northern parts of the country (i.e., Gansu and Xinjiang provinces). A field experiment (2015-2019) was conducted to determine the seed yield and seed quality of spring- and fall-seeded Chinese camelina cv ‘Xiaoguo’ across five locations in semi-arid regions of China. The results showed that spring- and fall-seeded camelina ‘Xiaoguo’ has highly adapted to the different growing environments in central and northern China. Location and season were the key determinants for camelina seed yield, but not the year. Across locations and years, the mean seed and oil yields for fall-seeded camelina were more significant than those of spring-seeded camelina (seed yield: 2115 vs 1751 kg ha–¹; oil yield: 672 vs 547 kg ha–¹). Fall-seeded camelina at Huangzhong had the highest mean seed (2497 kg ha–¹) and oil yield (784 kg ha–¹), followed by fall-seeded in Anyang (2219 and 714 kg ha–¹), compared to other locations (range of mean: 1566-2033 and 489-639 kg ha–¹). The contents of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acids in camelina seed oil varied from 11-14% (mean: 12%), 31-34% (mean: 32%), and 54-57% (mean: 56%), respectively. The mean β-sitosterol and total flavonoid contents across locations and years were 1723 μg g–¹ (range: 1680-1778 μg g–¹) and 3.4 mg g–¹ (range: 2.7-3.8 mg g–¹), respectively. In summary, its extensive environmental adaptability to drought and low temperature indicates that camelina is well-suited as an alternative oilseed crop or dual cropped with other crops in central and northern China or other countries with similar agricultural conditions. Camelina also showed great potential as a source of bioactive compounds (i.e., flavonoids, β-sitosterol) for pharmaceutical applications.

Abstract Pre-release risk assessment of genetically modified (GM) Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz requires a careful evaluation of the reproductive compatibility with its closely-related Camelina species. Camelina rumelica Velen. is a naturalized weed occurring in C. sativa production region in the northwestern China. In this study, a large number of reciprocal crosses was conducted between the tetraploid C. rumelica and hexaploid C. sativa. The F₁ hybrids were produced by the tetraploid C. rumelica (♀) × hexaploid C. sativa (♂) at the rate of one hybrid for 217 ovules pollinated, and one hybrid for 220 ovules pollinated in the reciprocal direction. All F₁ hybrids required vernalization treatment to induce timely flowering and showed the significant lower pollen viability (< 2%) compared to the parental lines. Despite that the F₁ failed to backcross with the parental lines, selfed seeds (F₂) were obtained from F₁ hybrids plants. The F₂ hybrids showed some degree of restored pollen viability (about 20%) and successfully produced seeds by both backcrossing and self-pollination. A similar pattern was observed in the field, with F₁ hybrids showing self-compatibility and reduced seed production potential. It is worthwhile to mention that all F₁ and F₂ plants grew well both in the greenhouse and field conditions, but with the significant lower seed production ability. A portion of selfed F₂ seeds from naturally shattering persisted in the soil seedbank during summer period and subsequently germinated in late fall. By contrast, other F₂ seeds may have been dormant in the soil seedbank and germinated the following spring. These altered life-cycle related traits in hybrids generates the novel ecological concerns on the persistence and population dynamics of transient hybrids in the seedbank. In summary, this study provided the evidence that the tetraploid C. rumelica and hexaploid C. sativa, which have the sympatric distributions and overlapped flowering periods, gene flow between them probably could occur. Although the rate was relatively low (about 0.5%), the introgression of life-cycle related traits into C. sativa population could alter its key life-cycle traits and raise the concerns on the soil seedbank persistence and invasiveness of transient hybrid in C. sativa production region in the northwestern China.
