Abstract The more water quality evaluation indicators, the greater the amount of water quality evaluation calculation. Under the requirements of evaluation accuracy, the index screening method is usually used to optimize water quality evaluation index to reduce the calculation amount of water quality evaluation. Taking Mengcheng Gate of Guo River as an example, the information sensitivity index screening method was used to simplify the water quality evaluation index system from 17 to 12 indicators. The variable fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was used to compare and evaluate the original index system and the optimal index system. The results showed that the water quality results of the optimal index system are consistent with the original index evaluation results. And the water quality of Mengcheng Gate is basically stable at class I level. The information sensitivity method reduced the number of indicators by 29.41%. The error between the water quality evaluation results based on the optimal indicators and the original indicators is less than 10%. The maximum error, minimum error, and average error are 8.92%, 0.08%, and 2.46%, respectively. It revealed that the information sensitivity method can eliminate the information redundancy while retaining the information of the original index system. It can also reduce the calculation amount of water quality evaluation in the future. The variable fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method can reasonably reflect the complex nonlinear relationship between water quality index and water quality category. This accuracy has practical significance for guiding the optimization of water quality evaluation index system, improving the efficiency of water quality evaluation. This model provides a scientific basis for indicator selection methods in similar river water quality evaluations.

Abstract To solve the insufficient availability of mogrol, an 11α-hydroxy aglycone of mogrosides in Siraitia grosvenorii, snailase was employed as the enzyme to completely deglycosylate LHG extract containing 50% mogroside V. Other commonly used glycosidases performed less efficiently. Response surface methodology was conducted to optimize the productivity of mogrol, which peaked at 74.7% in an aqueous reaction. In view of the differences in water-solubility between mogrol and LHG extract, we employed an aqueous-organic system for the snailase-catalyzed reaction. Of five tested organic solvents, toluene performed best and was relatively well tolerated by snailase. After optimization, biphasic medium containing 30% toluene (v/v) could produce a high-quality mogrol (98.1% purity) at a 0.5 L scale with a production rate of 93.2% within 20 h. This toluene-aqueous biphasic system would not only provide sufficient mogrol to construct future synthetic biology systems for the preparation of mogrosides, but also facilitate the development of mogrol-based medicines.

Abstract Extracts of Siraitia grosvenorii (Swingle), in Chinese known as Luo Han Guo (LHG), is authorized for use as a natural sweetener. LHG is rich in mogroside V that contains five glucoses, but also contains mogroside IIIE and analogues with fewer than three glucose units that cause an unpleasant aftertaste, limiting the use of the extract. Snailase was applied here to convert mogroside V in LHG extract in favor of siamenoside I formation, the sweetest mogroside with a taste similar to sucrose. For application, snailase was immobilized by adsorption to NKA (a macroporous resin), resulting in 10.9 U per g of adsorbed protein. Reuse of the NKA-adsorbed snailase was demonstrated for four cycles, and a continuous production of improved LHG extract at a 0.5 L scale had a productivity of 68.4 g/(L⋅day). The resulting product containing over 50% siamenoside I displayed an improved taste profile with satisfying safety toward HEK293T cells.

Abstract Agricultural non-point source pollution refers that substance such as nitrogen and phosphorus cause water environment pollution through surface runoff and underground leakage in agricultural production activities. Water environment pollution related to agricultural non-point source pollution in the Huaihe River Basin is becoming more and more prominent. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the characteristic of soil nutrient in cultivated land and explore the spatial variation and influencing factors of soil nutrients at the watershed scale. A total of 239 topsoil samples were collected from the Guo river basin, and the related factors of soil organic matter (SOM), total carbon (TC), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorous (TP), total potassium (TK) and potential of hydrogen (PH) were studied by using descriptive statistics and geostatistical methods. The results showed that TK and PH were weak variation, while SOM, TC, TN and TP were medium variation. Soil pH, TP, TK, TC and SOM had moderate spatial variability, which was caused by both random factors and structural factors such as soil texture, soil type, fertilization and local ecological restoration management. Soil TN showed a strong spatial correlation, mainly due to soil texture and soil type. If the recommended fertilization amount is still given based on the average value of soil nutrients ignoring the spatial heterogeneity, it will not only affect crop production efficiency and fertilizer utilization, but may also cause greater environmental pollution. This study can provide a theoretical basis for the management of agro-ecological environments throughout the basin area.

Abstract This study used water-quality monitoring data from seven monitoring stations in the Guo River Basin from 2003 to 2012 and three selected water-quality indexes (total phosphorus: TP, ammonium nitrogen: NH3–N, and permanganate index: CODMn) that were divided into five categories (classes I, II, III, IV, and V) according to Chinese environmental quality standards for surface water (GB 3838–2002). The results indicated that the concentrations of TP, NH3–N, and CODMn showed a significant decreasing trend at Xuanwu Sluice, Huangzhuang, Boxian Sluice, Guoyang, and Mengcheng Sluice by the Mann–Kendall trend analysis; the water pollution was worse in the upstream region, but it was relatively good in the downstream region, and the water pollutant concentrations improved significantly by the cluster analysis. In this study, a marginal distribution of water-quality indexes and a combinatorial probability distribution of the copula function are established based on the basic principle of the copula function. The Gaussian copula function was selected to calculate the combinatorial risk probability of the water pollutants by the fit test of copula function and the goodness-of-fit evaluation. Results show that the combinatorial risk probability varies substantially when the water-quality indexes reach different states under different combinations, such as the combinatorial risk probability showed a decreasing trend with increasing TP concentration when the NH3–N concentration was certain and CODMn reached the class III or class IV level at Xuanwu Sluice and Boxian Sluice; the combinatorial risk probability presented a decreasing trend with increasing TP concentration when the NH3–N and CODMn concentrations were certain at Mengcheng Sluice and Longkangji; the combinatorial risk probability presented a trend that first increased and then decreased with increasing CODMn concentration when the TP and NH3–N concentrations were certain. The temporal–spatial distribution characteristics and combinatorial risk probabilities obtained in this study will provide a basis for management, water pollution control, water resources protection, and sustainable development of the basin.
