Abstract Elevated substance P can be utilized to predict early mortality during the first week of cerebral infarction. Whether Aprepitant, a substance P receptor blocker, could be utilized to alleviate post-stroke pneumonia is investigated in this study. Intraluminal monofilament model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was constructed in C57BL/6J male mice, and the relative expression of substance P was detected in collected bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lung tissue homogenate at 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h post-stroke. On the other hand, different concentrations of aprepitant (0.5, 1, 2 mg/kg) were atomized and inhaled into MCAO mice. Inflammation cytokines and bacterial load were detected in collected BALF and lung tissue homogenate at 72-h post-stroke, and lung injury was revealed by histological examination. Aprepitant administration decreased total proteins, total cells, neutrophils, and macrophages in BALF. The concentrations of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α, interferon γ, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and IL-10 in lung tissue homogenates were also diminished by the administration of aprepitant. In conclusion, aprepitant could attenuate post-stroke pneumonia in mice suggesting its potential therapeutic use in the clinic.

Abstract Fluorite and calcite were separated with nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) as a depressant. The single mineral flotation experiment confirmed that with 40 mg/L NaOL and 80 mg/L NTA, the fluorite recovery and calcite recovery were 24.37 and 94.13%, respectively, at pH 9. Meanwhile, in the fluorite-calcite binary mixed ore flotation experiment, the calcite recovery and fluorite recovery were 75.50 and 26.84%, respectively, and the CaCO

Abstract Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a multifactorial neurodegenerative disease, with a complex pathogenesis and an irreversible course. Therefore, the early diagnosis of AD is particularly important for the intervention, prevention, and treatment of the disease. Based on the different pathophysiological mechanisms of AD, the research progress of biofluid biomarkers are classified and reviewed. In the end, the challenges and perspectives of future research are proposed.

Abstract Forensic facial image comparison based on recognition algorithms has been widely applied in forensic science. Previous researches have been concentrating on the cases of using single system during comparison, while how to use multiple systems has not yet been studied. In this paper, a dual-systems model (including SeetaFace and FaceNet) for facial comparison was constructed, and Bayesian networks were utilized as the basic frame. In order to prove its superiority, a large-scale experiment (on the dataset CelebA) has been carried on to evaluate the score-based likelihood ratio. We used three likelihood ratio evaluation tools (Empirical Cross-Entropy, Cost Likelihood Ratio, Limit Tippett Plots) to assess the performance of the model. The Wasserstein distance was also used to evaluate the detailed likelihood ratio performance. The experimental results show that the likelihood ratio performance of our dual-systems model is better than single system. Besides, our method of model building and evaluation can also be used in the condition of triple or more systems.

Abstract In recent years, the score-based likelihood ratio (SLR) method for facial comparison has attracted considerable research attention. This method relies on the match scores that are calculated from the features obtained from facial recognition systems, deep learning based in particular. However, this concept has not been completely understood. Therefore, this study is aimed at investigating deep learning facial features, and the SLR levels of their match scores. We propose a new interpretation that the deep learning feature is a class characteristic. Based on a large-scale data set experiment, we present evidence that the log SLR value of deep learning features can reach 8 in some data sets. The study results imply that the SLR of deep learning features is a useful method for facial identification, especially when the suspected image is obtained via a CCTV camera.

Abstract Large pretrained multilingual language models (ML-LMs) have shown remarkable capabilities of zero-shot cross-lingual transfer, without direct cross-lingual supervision. While these results are promising, follow-up works found that, within the multilingual embedding spaces, there exists strong language identity information which hinders the expression of linguistic factors shared across languages. For semantic tasks like cross-lingual sentence retrieval, it is desired to remove such language identity signals to fully leverage semantic information. In this work, we provide a novel view of projecting away language-specific factors from a multilingual embedding space. Specifically, we discover that there exists a low-rank subspace that primarily encodes information irrelevant to semantics (e.g., syntactic information). To identify this subspace, we present a simple but effective unsupervised method based on singular value decomposition with multiple monolingual corpora as input. Once the subspace is found, we can directly project the original embeddings into the null space to boost language agnosticism without finetuning. We systematically evaluate our method on various tasks including the challenging language-agnostic QA retrieval task. Empirical results show that applying our method consistently leads to improvements over commonly used ML-LMs.
