Abstract We have conducted a 10-year-long coprological study of the animals housed in two zoological institutions (ZooAquarium and Faunia, Madrid, Spain) to assess the parasite biodiversity, prevalence, and their relation with host class, diet, and enclosure type (soil type and level of isolation from wild fauna). A total of 4476 faecal samples from 132 mammal species and 951 samples from 86 avian species were examined. The results indicated that only 12.8% of avian species had parasites at least once during the study period, whereas 62.1% of mammal species tested positive. Predominantly, protists (

Abstract Objective: To create awareness of the dangers of radon gas and to provide family physicians with updated, practical information to help educate patients.
Sources of information: MEDLINE (1950 to February 2013), the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (2005 to 2013), and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (2005 to 2013) were searched using relevant terms. Guidelines, position statements, articles, and original research relevant to radon were selected.
Main message: Radon is the principal cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and the second most common cause in smokers (1 in 20 and 1 in 3, respectively), and lifetime risk increases in a linear fashion with radon exposure. In outdoor air, radon is diluted and is not a health concern, but as it diffuses into houses, the gas accumulates, reaching high concentrations, and becomes a health hazard. The Canadian guideline for the maximum acceptable concentration for indoor air is 200 Bq/m
Conclusion: Family physicians play a fundamental role in the prevention of radon-related lung cancer by educating their patients, guiding them about specific preventive actions, and advocating on patients' behalf.

Abstract Background/objectives: The microbiota plays a vital role in the two-way communication between the gastrointestinal tract and numerous neuropsychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia. Besides, the microbiota modulation through the use of psychobiotics (prebiotics and probiotics with nutraceutical action) is related to the improvement of the physical and psychopathological health. The objective to this study was to test the efficacy of prebiotic/probiotic dietary modulation in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, attending to the nutritional and cardio-metabolic impact.
Methods: Two-arms, double-blind, randomized in balanced blocks clinical trial of 6 months of intervention, will be developed in a group of 50 individuals. The control group will receive conventional dietary advice individually from specialized mental health nurses. In the intervention group, an individual dietetic-nutritional education program with high prebiotic and probiotic content (dairy and fermented foods, green leafy vegetables, high-fiber fruit, whole grains, etc.) will be developed by these nurses. Data will be collected on the psychopathological state, and blood test (at the beginning, at 3 and 6 months). The estimation of intestinal microbiota and the usual nutritional pattern will also be assessed at the beginning and 6 months, using a stool test. To evaluate the degree of adherence, the intervention group will fill a specific weekly record of the main dishes/food consumed. Anthropometric parameters will also be analyzed monthly.
Discussion: The study is anticipated to establish feasibility an adequate dietary modulation with a high simbiotic content, leads to a significant improvement in the nutritional status and cardio-metabolic. Furthermore, it is presumed to reach a degree of evidence that allows establishing nutritional management as an effective therapeutic intervention in the psychopathological treatment of patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

Abstract Performance of procedures is an integral part of any family physician/general practitioner's practice. Unfortunately, discrepancy occurs between the existing theoretical methods of procedural teaching and the training imparted during real daily practice, which creates gaps that need to be overcome. This article identifies and reviews teaching gaps in family medicine training and presents suggestions to overcome them with a view to forming holistic psychomotor skills based on the learner's characteristics within the patient-centred philosophy of family medicine.

Abstract In everyday life the comparison of numbers usually occurs between numbers with different numbers of digits. However, experimental research here is scarce. Recent research has shown that adults respond faster to congruent pairs (the initial digit in the number with more digits is larger, e.g., 2384 vs. 107) than to incongruent pairs (the initial digit is larger in the number with fewer digits, e.g., 2675 vs. 398). This has been interpreted as support for the processing of multiple attributes in parallel and against serial accounts. The current research asked whether there is a change in the relevance of these attributes as school grades increase. School-age children from the second to sixth grades (N = 206) were presented with pairs of numbers that had either the same number of digits (3 vs. 3 or 4 vs. 4) or a different number of digits (3 vs. 4). In this latter condition, the stimuli, matched by distance, could be either length/digit congruent (e.g., 2384 vs. 107) or length/digit incongruent (e.g., 2675 vs. 398). Linear mixed models showed a length/digit congruity effect from second graders. Interestingly, in the response time measure, congruity interacted with school grade and the side in which the larger number of the pair was presented. Whereas these results support a model that considers number comparison as a process that weighs different attributes in parallel, it is also argued that developmental changes are associated with differences in the level of automatization of the componential skills involved in the comparison.

Abstract The growing availability of mobile devices has lead to an arising development of smart cities services that share a huge amount of (personal) information and data. Without accurate and verified management, they could become severe back-doors for security and privacy. In this paper, we propose a smart city infrastructure able to integrate a distributed privacy-preserving identity management solution based on attribute-based credentials (p-ABC), a user-centric Consent Manager, and a GDPR-based Access Control mechanism so as to guarantee the enforcement of the GDPR's provisions. Thus, the infrastructure supports the definition of specific purpose, collection of data, regulation of access to personal data, and users' consents, while ensuring selective and minimal disclosure of personal information as well as user's unlinkability across service and identity providers. The proposal has been implemented, integrated, and evaluated in a fully-fledged environment consisting of MiMurcia, the Smart City project for the city of Murcia, CaPe, an industrial consent management system, and GENERAL_D, an academic GDPR-based access control system, showing the feasibility.
