Abstract Aim: To propose educational strategies to prevent delirium in older adults.
    Design: Integrative review.
Methods: This review followed the methodology of Whittemore and Knafl (J Adv Nurs 52(5):546-553, 2005. 10.1111/j.1365-2648.2005.03621.x).
Data sources: A literature search was performed of the PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Cochrane Library CENTRAL, and Scopus databases on 8 July 2022.
Results: Three themes of educational interventions were identified: capacity building, resource provision and enhancement of relationships, collectively termed Fa-CARE. Educational interventions improved family caregivers' knowledge about delirium, their anxiety; depression; self-efficacy; and attitudes. Among older adults, these interventions improved the duration, severity and incidence of delirium; functional abilities; and length of hospital stay.
Conclusion: Providing education to family caregivers benefits both those caregivers and the older adults. When planning educational intervention, diverse and innovative approaches need to be considered.
Implications for the profession and/or patient care: This study can guide family education regarding the care of older adults with delirium.
Impact: Educational interventions positively impacted both family caregivers and older adults with delirium. Educational interventions provide family caregivers with resources, improve their capacity for delirium management, and enhance their relationships with older adults. This study suggests future directions in education for family caregivers of older adults with delirium.
Reporting method: This review adhered to the EQUATOR guidelines by using the PRISMA 2020 checklist.
Patient or public contribution: No patient or public contribution.

Abstract Here, we describe detailed steps to constitute an in vitro assay for monitoring papain-like protease of coronavirus and a cell-based immunofluorescence infection assay. These assays can be adapted for high-throughput screening to determine the efficacy of novel protease inhibitors of coronaviruses and other viruses. In addition, cell-based immunofluorescence infection assay can be used to visually analyze antiviral efficacy of any novel compounds. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Jeong et al. (2022).

Abstract Acanthamoeba infection is associated with keratitis in humans; however, its association with keratitis in dogs remains unclear. To investigate this possibility, we collected 171 conjunctival swab samples from dogs with eye-related diseases (65 with keratitis and 106 without keratitis) at Chungbuk National University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Korea, from August 2021 to September 2022. Polymerase chain reaction identified 9 samples (5.3%) as Acanthamoeba positive; of these, 3 were from dogs with keratitis (4.6%) and 6 were from dogs without keratitis (5.7%). Our results indicated no significant association between Acanthamoeba infection and keratitis, season, sex, or age. All Acanthamoeba organisms found in this study had the genotype T4, according to 18S ribosomal RNA analysis. Acanthamoeba infection in dogs might have only a limited association with keratitis.

Abstract Background: Despite advancements in coronary artery disease (CAD) treatment with drug-eluting stent, its morbidity and mortality remain high. In context, intravascular imaging-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is increasingly recommended for better clinical outcomes in patient with CAD. Near-infrared spectroscopy-intravascular ultrasound (NIRS-IVUS), as one of the intravascular imaging methods, is effective in detecting lipid-rich plaques, which is crucial for identifying high-risk or vulnerable plaques employing near-infrared light. High lipid core burden, as identified by NIRS-IVUS, correlates with an increased risk of adverse cardiac events and shows varying degrees of efficacy in plaque management and event prevention.
Summary: This article addresses about how NIRS-IVUS can be used to predict event of CAD. The study highlights the crucial role of NIRS-IVUS in predicting future cardiovascular events. Findings indicate that the presence of high lipid core burden is related to increased risks of periprocedural myocardial infarction and reduced coronary flow during PCI. The study also outlines the predictive value of NIRS-IVUS in non-culprit lesions, where plaques with high lipid core burden significantly increase the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events as demonstrated in the PROSPECT II trial. In terms of therapeutic strategies, the study reviews the effectiveness of high-intensity lipid-lowering strategies in stabilizing vulnerable plaques, as evidenced in trials such as the YELLOW and PACMAN AMI trials.
Key messages: NIRS-IVUS emerges as a valuable diagnostic tool in treating CAD. It effectively identifies vulnerable plaques and aids in predicting and preventing future adverse cardiac events. However, to enhance its practicality and promote widespread adoption in clinical settings, further long-term outcome research of NIRS-IVUS-guided PCI is necessary. These efforts can potentially make NIRS-IVUS a more accessible and indispensable tool in cardiovascular disease management.

Abstract Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent programmed cell death mechanism, is regulated by distinct molecular pathways of lipid peroxidation caused by intracellular iron supplementation and glutathione (GSH) synthesis inhibition. It has attracted a great deal of attention as a viable alternative to typical apoptosis-based cancer therapy that exhibits drug resistance. For efficient therapeutic utilization of such a unique and desirable mechanism, precise control using various stimuli to activate the administered nanocarriers is essential. Abstract Background: The prevalence of sudden sensorineural hearing loss and facial palsy in patients with vestibular schwannoma and the association of sudden sensorineural hearing loss or facial palsy with vestibular schwannoma were investigated based on the population data of Korea.
Methods: This retrospective study used the Korean National Health Insurance Service data. Patients with vestibular schwannoma and those with a previous history of sudden sensorineural hearing loss or facial palsy were identified based on diagnostic, medication, magnetic resonance imaging, or audiometric codes from 2005 to 2020. The control group was established with propensity score matching. The risk for vestibular schwannoma in patients with a previous history of sudden sensorineural hearing loss or facial palsy was analyzed.
Results: There were 5751 patients in the vestibular schwannoma group and 23004 in the control group. The rate of patients with a previous history of sudden sensorineural hearing loss in the vestibular schwannoma group (25.8%) was significantly higher than in the control group (P -lt; .0001), as was the rate of patients with a previous history of facial palsy in the vestibular schwannoma group (4.7%) (P -lt; .0001). Previous history of sudden sensorineural hearing loss was a significant risk factor for vestibular schwannoma (hazard ratio=7.109, 95% confidence interval=6.696-7.547). Previous history of facial palsy was also a significant risk factor for vestibular schwannoma (hazard ratio=3.048, 95% confidence interval=2.695-3.447).
Conclusion: The prevalence of sudden sensorineural hearing loss or facial palsy was significantly higher in patients with vestibular schwannoma than in those without vestibular schwannoma. Based on the population data of Korea, sudden sensorineural hearing loss and facial palsy were significant risk factors for vestibular schwannoma.
