Abstract Propofol (Pro), a prevalent intravenous anesthetic, has recently been recognized for its potential in mitigating ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injuries. Despite a plethora of evidence suggesting the beneficial effects of low-dose Pro in renal I/R injury (RI/R), its role in modulating pyroptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells consequent to RI/R has not been thoroughly elucidated. In our investigation, we explored the therapeutic potential of Pro against pyroptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells under the duress of RI/R, employing both in vivo and in vitro models, while deciphering the intricate molecular pathways involved. Our results demonstrate an elevation in the expression of miR-143-3p, contrasted by a diminution in ATPase Na + /K + Transporting Subunit Alpha 2 (ATP1A2) under RI/R conditions. Pro effectively mitigates apoptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells induced by RI/R, principally characterized by the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL-)-1β and IL-18, enhancement of cellular viability, reduction in the ratio of pyroptotic cells, and suppression of nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich repeat-related family, pyrin domain containing 3 inflammasome activation along with the expression of cleaved caspase-1, and gasdermin D. Both knockdown and overexpression studies of miR-143-3p revealed its pivotal role in modulating RI/R-induced tubular cell pyroptosis. Notably, Pro's capacity to inhibit pyroptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells was found to be reversible following ATP1A2 knockdown. Furthermore, our study unveils miR-143-3p as a targeted regulator of ATP1A2 expression. From a mechanistic standpoint, Pro's therapeutic efficacy is attributed to its regulatory influence on miR-143-3p and ATP1A2 expression levels. In conclusion, our findings pioneer the understanding that Pro can significantly ameliorate pyroptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells in the context of RI/R, predominantly through the modulation of the miR-143-3p/ATP1A2 axis. This novel insight furnishes robust empirical support for the development of targeted therapeutics and clinical strategies in addressing RI/R.

Abstract It is very important to understand the structure-performance relationship of metal catalysts by adjusting the microstructure of catalysts at the atomic scale. The atomic distance has an essential influence on the composition of the environment of active metal atom, which is a key factor for the design of targeted catalysts with desired function. In this review, we discuss and summarize strategies for changing the atomic distance from three aspects and relate their effects on the reactivity of catalysts. First, the effects of regulating bond length between metal and coordination atom at one single-atom site on the catalytic performance are introduced. The bond lengths are affected by the strain effect of the support and high-shell doping and can evolve during the reaction. Next, the influence of the distance between single-atom sites on the catalytic performance is discussed. Due to the space matching of adsorption and electron transport, the catalytic performance can be adjusted with the shortening of site distance. In addition, the effect of the arrangement spacing of the surface metal active atoms on the catalytic performance of metal nanocatalysts is studied. Finally, a comprehensive summary and outlook of the relationship between atomic distance and catalytic performance is given.

Abstract The generalized complementary relationship (CR) of evaporation was investigated in the irrigated winter wheat/summer maize double‐cropping sites in North China Plain (NCP), a region influenced by the East Asian dry winter and wet summer monsoon. Different generalized CRs exist in the winter wheat (dry) and summer maize (wet) seasons with abrupt changes in June and October. The seasonal abrupt change in the CR is attributed to the sudden reversed water vapor transport with the winter and summer monsoon and the wheat/maize rotation with irrigation in the winter wheat season. The separation and abrupt change in the complementary behavior require that two‐stage phased parameters corresponding to the wheat (dry) and maize (wet) seasons should be adopted by the generalized complementary functions for operational evaporation estimation in the irrigated double cropping NCP.

Abstract Nitric acid pressure leaching has great potential in treating limonitic laterite. A new method is designed to improve the downstream process. The resulting calcium nitrate solution is concentrated/crystallized/pyrolyzed to achieve the regeneration of nitric acid and calcium oxide. Calcium nitrate pyrolysis is the core process to realize the new method, but the dynamic analysis of this process is relatively lacking and the pyrolysis mechanism is controversial. In this paper, TG-DSC, TG-MS and XRD were applied to systematically study the thermodynamics and phase evolution of calcium nitrate tetrahydrate. It is found that pyrolysis of calcium nitrate tetrahydrate can be divided into four stages: removing free water and part of crystal water, removing residual crystal water, stable existence of anhydrous calcium nitrate, and its decomposition after melting. Calcium nitrite and nitrogen are absent in the process of calcium nitrate pyrolysis. Three iso-conversion methods, including Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method, Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose method and Starink method, were applied to determine activation energies of calcium nitrate pyrolysis as 224.4 kJ/mol, 221.8 kJ/mol and 222.2 kJ/mol. The kinetic mechanism model of calcium nitrate pyrolysis determined by Melak method is closer to An model, which is the random nucleation and growth reaction. Calcium nitrate pyrolysis process further expands the industrial application of nitric acid pressure leaching.

Abstract This article presents a global adaptive neural-network-based control algorithm for disturbed pure-feedback nonlinear systems to achieve zero tracking error in a predefined time. Different from the traditional works that only solve the semiglobal bounded tracking problem for pure-feedback systems, this work not only achieves that the tracking error globally converges to zero but also guarantees that the convergence time can be predefined according to the user specification. In order to get the desired predefined-time controller, first, a mild semibound assumption for nonaffine functions is skillfully proposed so that the design difficulty caused by the structure of pure feedback can be easily solved. Then, we apply the property of radial basis function (RBF) neural networks (NNs) and Young's inequality to derive the upper bound of the term that contains the unknown nonlinear function and external disturbances, and the designed adaptive parameters decide the derived upper and robust control gain. Finally, the predefined-time virtual control inputs are presented whose derivatives are further estimated by utilizing finite-time differentiators. It is strictly proved that the proposed novel predefined-time controller can guarantee that the tracking error globally converges to zero within predefined time and a practical example is shown to verify the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed predefined-time control method.
