    Abstract On October 3, 2019, President Donald Trump issued the Executive Order on Protecting and Improving Medicare for Our Nation's Seniors, in which he proposed eliminating supervision requirements for advanced practice providers (APPs) and equalizing Medicare reimbursements among APPs and physicians. The objective of this study was to understand public opinion of this proposal by analyzing online comments. We reviewed 352 comments on a Medscape article as well as the corresponding Reddit discussion, and we characterized the comments by demographic information provided and theme. There were 155 commenters. Our study highlights physician concerns about the executive order, specifically the importance of appropriate supervision and improved dermatologic training of APPs so that patients are provided with the best possible medical care.

    Abstract Background: Despite growth in the proportion of women and underrepresented minorities in the dermatology workforce, gender and racial differences persist.
    Objective: This study sought to analyze the differences in academic rank between genders and races while controlling for achievement indicators.
    Methods: Data from 15 institutions, selected based on residency program rankings, were analyzed.
    Results: Women were well-represented as assistant professors (60.7% vs. 37.6% of men;
    Conclusion: Our findings confirm that for equal levels of achievement, men and women are promoted similarly in dermatology, yet reasons for disparity in research output and funding for women and minority dermatologists need further study.

    Abstract In September 2019, the New York Times (NYT) published the article "Fighting the Shame of Skin Picking," which discussed the cosmetic, social and emotional impacts of body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs). BFRBs, including excoriation disorder, trichotillomania, onychotillomania, and onychophagia, are recurring actions that damage one's physical appearance. The aim of this study is to characterize the demographic information provided and themes raised in the 166 comments posted in response to the article. The most commonly reported condition was skin picking (38.2%), followed by trichotillomania and/or trichophagia (30.3%), onychotillomania (24.7%), and onychophagia (23.6%). All conditions had a female predominance. Treatment of body-focused repetitive behaviors was the most common topic of discussion, followed by shame and impact on appearance. Since commenters described significant impairments to quality of life, larger randomized controlled trials on skin picking, trichotillomania, onychophagia, and onychotillomania are necessary to provide evidence-based management to patients.
