    Abstract Currently, among the possible treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma there is group of minimally invasive ablation techniques with wide clinical acceptance due to their greater efficacy and safety in comparison to traditional therapies, low cost, and no need of being admitted to hospital (outpatient treatment program). Irreversible electroporation is a non-thermal ablation technique in which electrical fields are used to create nanopores in the cell membrane that induce tumor cell death. Irreversible electroporation has shown promising results in numerous clinical trials; however, its control on long-term tumor growth and recurrence is inferior in comparison to that of radiofrequency. Combining irreversible electroporation with immunological agents may increase its efficacy in the treatment of focal lesions and metastases. In this work, we present an update on IRE including procedure, mechanism of action, application as a treatment for HCC, and the improvements that have been made in the past few years.

    Abstract La investigación en el campo del ser humano y su entorno laboral requiere ser fortalecido en los programas de formación de pregrado y posgrado, de modo que cada vez sea mayor el conocimiento que desde los claustros universitarios se genera por parte de investigadores, docentes, estudiantes, grupos y semilleros de investigación. Este es un ejercicio a realizarse en red, pues las alianzas académicas facilitan la creación, desarrollo y divulgación de proyectos que enriquecen el saber - hacer de la disciplina en pro de la protección y prevención de los riesgos laborales que pueden afectar el bienestar y calidad de vida del trabajador y la continuidad de las organizaciones. Con este propósito, la Universidad Libre y la Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios, ambas con sede en Cali, Colombia, realizaron el Primer Encuentro de Investigación en Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo, llevado a cabo el 6 de junio de 2019, cuyo objetivo fue el de propiciar un espacio para la divulgación de los avances y resultados de investigación de los docentes, estudiantes y semilleros de las universidades del Suroccidente colombiano que ofrecen programas de pregrado y posgrado relacionados con la Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo. Bajo la metodología de ponencias orales, póster y taller, docentes investigadores, estudiantes y semilleristas de las universidades Santiago de Cali, Antonio José Camacho, Libre de Cali, Uniminuto sedes Buga, Buenaventura, Pereira y Cali presentaron sus propuestas, avances y resultados de proyectos de investigación en curso o finalizados en temas de salud mental laboral, riesgo psisoocial, discapacidad y trabajo, peligros emergentes, teletrabajo, peligros físicos, biomecánicos y químicos. Estas son las memorias de un primer encuentro que espera consolidarse como un espacio donde la investigación es la protagonista en la búsqueda de entornos laborales que protejan la vida, el bienestar y la salud de los trabajadores, beneficiando también con ello a las organizaciones y sistemas de seguridad y riesgos laborales.

    Abstract We analysed issues concerning the establishment of compulsory vaccination against COVID-19, as well as the role of misinformation as a disincentive-especially when published by health professionals-and citizen acceptance of measures in this regard. Data from different surveys revealed a high degree of hesitation rather than outright opposition to vaccines. The most frequent complaint related to the COVID-19 vaccination was the fear of side effects. Within the Spanish and European legislative framework, both compulsory vaccination and government regulation of FN (Fake News) appear to be feasible options, counting on sufficient legal support, which could be reinforced by additional amendment. However, following current trends of good governance, policymakers must have public legitimation. Rather than compulsory COVID-19 vaccination, an approach based on education and truthful information, persuading the population of the benefits of a vaccine on a voluntary basis, is recommended. Disagreements between health professionals are positive, but they should be resolved following good practice and the procedures of the code of ethics. Furthermore, citizens do not support the involvement of government authorities in the direct control of news. Collaboration with the media and other organizations should be used instead.

    Abstract Objetivo: Reflexionar sobre la importancia de integrar los avances de la legislación colombiana frente al riesgo psicosocial con relación a la inclusión del Síndrome de Burnout como enfermedad laboral en el nuevo CIE-11. Reflexión: El síndrome de Burnout está definido en la legislación colombiana como una enfermedad laboral derivada del estrés. Sin embargo, en la actual clasificación internacional de enfermedades (CIE-10) este síndrome no existe como diagnóstico médico, lo que dificulta su identificación y tratamiento, afectando la atención oportuna hacia los trabajadores, la implementación de acciones de prevención e intervención en las empresas. Esta situación se superará con la entrada en vigencia del CIE-11 en el año 2021, donde fue incluida como diagnóstico médico claramente definido. Las leyes colombianas consideran el Síndrome de Burnout como un riesgo derivado de la exposición a los peligros psicosociales que tienen una significativa normatividad en el país. Resultados: Se realizó un recorrido a la legislación, normatividad y lineamientos técnicos frente a los peligros psicosociales y su relación con el síndrome de burnout. Se analizaron las tablas de enfermedades laborales, los criterios diagnósticos actuales, las leyes sobre riesgo psicosocial y los protocolos de determinación de origen de enfermedades derivadas del estrés y el protocolo de intervención para el síndrome de burnout que propone el Ministerio de Trabajo de Colombia. Conclusiones: la entrada en vigencia del CIE-11 es una oportunidad para visualizar la patología, que existe en la realidad laboral. Con los criterios actuales no ocupa un lugar en la realidad médica laboral. La normatividad y lineamientos técnicos frente a los procesos de determinación de origen y de intervención del síndrome emitidos por el Ministerio de Trabajo son instrumentos orientadores para su identificación, prevención e intervención tanto en la consulta clínica como en los contextos laborales.     Abstract Introduction: Group A Streptococcus (GAS) causes mild diseases, and unfrequently invasive infections (iGAS). Following the December 2022 alert from the United Kingdom regarding the unusual increase in GAS and iGAS infections, we analyzed the incidence of GAS infections in 2018-2022 in our hospital.
    Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of patients seen in a pediatric emergency department (ED) diagnosed with streptococcal pharyngitis and scarlet fever and patients admitted for iGAS during last 5 years.
    Results: The incidence of GAS infections was 6.43 and 12.38/1000 ED visits in 2018 and 2019, respectively. During the COVID-19 pandemic the figures were 5.33 and 2.14/1000 ED visits in 2020 and 2021, respectively, and increased to 10.2/1000 ED visits in 2022. The differences observed were not statistically significant (p=0.352).
    Conclusions: In our series, as in other countries, GAS infections decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic, and mild and severe cases increased considerably in 2022, but did not reach similar levels to those detected in other countries.
