Abstract The structure of a crystalline monolayer of 1,3,5-triazine has been characterised using X-ray diffraction. The monolayer is found to exhibit a hexagonal unit cell with a lattice parameter of 6.161(5) Å, indicating the formation of C-H … N hydrogen bonds. DFT simulations have been performed exhibiting close agreement with the experimental structure. By comparing the strength of the intermolecular interactions both with and in the absence of Van der Waals corrections, it is possible to estimate an interaction strength for the weak C-H … N hydrogen bonds.

Abstract Successful intervention to support a child with congenital hearing loss requires early identification and consistent access to frequent professional services. In the early 2000s, the United States implemented an initiative, Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI), to provide timely identification and treatment of congenital hearing loss. This national program aims to screen hearing by 1 month of age, diagnose hearing loss by 3 months of age, and provide intervention to infants with hearing loss by 6 months of age. To date, the United States is successfully implementing hearing screening by 1 month of age but continually struggling to diagnose and treat congenital hearing loss promptly for many infants. This article begins by exploring the current state of American children and families, focusing on social determinants of health, specifically race and poverty. The objective is to understand how race affects social determinants of health, and ultimately hearing healthcare access for children. A narrative literature review spanning public health, sociology, and hearing research was completed to inform this work. The current body of literature supports the conclusion that race and racism, separate from poverty, lead to decreased access to pediatric hearing healthcare. Interventions targeting these issues are necessary to improve timely access to hearing loss diagnosis and treatment for American children.

Abstract Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals are a significant yet underrepresented population within genetic counseling research and broader LGBTQI+ health studies. This underrepresentation perpetuates a cycle of exclusion from the production of medical knowledge, impacting the quality and equity of care received by TGD individuals. This issue is particularly poignant in cancer genetic counseling, where TGD individuals with elevated cancer risk receive risk assessment, counseling, and referral to support based on risk figures and standards of care developed for cisgender individuals. The experiences of TGD individuals navigating inherited cancer syndromes remain largely undocumented in medical literature, posing challenges to the provision of inclusive care by genetics providers. To bridge this knowledge gap, we conducted a cross-sectional qualitative study. Nineteen semi-structured interviews were held with gender diverse adults having hereditary cancer syndromes, family histories of such syndromes, or personal histories of chest cancer. Our study employed thematic analysis using combined inductive and deductive methods to illuminate how hereditary cancer care intersects with participants' gender identities, gender expression, and gender-affirming care experiences. Participants reflected on care experiences that felt affirming or triggered gender dysphoria. Participants also discussed the interplay between risk-reducing mastectomy and top surgery, exploring co-emergent dynamics between cancer risk management and gender expression. Significantly, participants identified actionable strategies for healthcare providers to enhance support for gender diverse patients, including the mindful use of gendered language, collaborative decision-making, and conveying allyship. These findings offer valuable insights into tailoring genetic counseling to meet the unique needs of TGD individuals, advancing the path toward inclusive and appropriate care for LGBTQI+ individuals with hereditary cancer syndromes.

Abstract Oxygen uptake (V˙O2) is an important metric in any exercise test including walking and running. It can be measured using portable spirometers or metabolic analyzers. Those devices are, however, not suitable for constant use by consumers due to their costs, difficulty of operation and their intervening in the physical integrity of their users. Therefore, it is important to develop approaches for the indirect estimation of V˙O2-based measurements of motion parameters, heart rate data and application-specific measurements from consumer-grade sensors. Typically, these approaches are based on linear regression models or neural networks. This study investigates how motion data contribute to V˙O2 estimation accuracy during unconstrained running and walking. The results suggest that a long short term memory (LSTM) neural network can predict oxygen consumption with an accuracy of 2.49 mL/min/kg (95% limits of agreement) based only on speed, speed change, cadence and vertical oscillation measurements from an inertial navigation system combined with a Global Positioning System (INS/GPS) device developed by our group, worn on the torso. Combining motion data and heart rate data can significantly improve the V˙O2 estimation resulting in approximately 1.7-1.9 times smaller prediction errors than using only motion or heart rate data.
