Abstract As of June 2022, 5 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine brands have been used in Korea's national immunization program. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has enhanced vaccine safety monitoring through a passive web-based reporting system and active text message-based monitoring. In this study, an enhanced safety monitoring system for COVID-19 vaccines is described and the frequencies and types of adverse events (AEs) associated with the 5 COVID-19 vaccine brands were analyzed. AE reports from the web-based COVID-19 Vaccination Management System and text message-based reports from recipients were analyzed. AEs were classified as nonserious or serious (e.g., death or anaphylaxis). The AE reporting rates were calculated based on the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered. A total of 125,107,883 doses were administered in Korea from February 26, 2021, to June 4, 2022. Among them, 471,068 AEs were reported, of which 96.1% were nonserious and 3.9% were serious. Among the 72,609 participants in the text message-based AE monitoring process, a higher AE rate of local and systemic reactions was reported for the 3rd versus 1st doses. A total of 874 cases of anaphylaxis (7.0 per 1,000,000 doses), 4 cases of thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), 511 cases of myocarditis (4.1 per 1,000,000 doses), and 210 cases of pericarditis (1.7 per 1,000,000 doses) were confirmed. Six fatalities were causally associated with COVID-19 vaccination (1 of TTS and 5 of myocarditis). Young adult age and female sex were related with a higher AE rate for COVID-19 vaccines. Most reported AEs were nonserious and of mild intensity.

Abstract Background/purpose: This population-based study aimed to compare the accuracy of Rapid antigen detection (RAD) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assays for diagnosing individuals infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) during the COVID-19 outbreak in Taipei, from May to June 2021.
Methods: In response to the outbreak of COVID-19 in mid-May 2021, Taipei City Hospital set up 12 citywide proactive community testing (PCT) stations for early identification of infected individuals from May 17 to June 20, 2021. Individuals with RAD positivity were isolated and later confirmed by RT-PCR. The c-statistic value was estimated to indicate the level of diagnostic accuracy of RAD tests.
Results: Of the 33,798 individuals who were evaluated for SARS-CoV-2 infection, 4.4% tested positive for RAD. There was a moderate concordance (kappa = 0.67) between the RAD tests and RT-PCR assay for identifying infectious individuals. The c-statistic value of the RAD test for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection was 0.8. There was a positive linear trend between the accuracy of the RAD tests and the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the study population (β = 0.04; p = .03). As the cycle threshold value decreased, the sensitivity rate of the RAD tests increased (p < .001). After implementation of the PCT program, the prevalence of COVID-19 decreased from 8.4% to 3.3% (p < .001).
Conclusion: Proactive community testing for SARS-CoV-2 infection using RAD tests could rapidly identify and quarantine the most infectious patients in the early phase of COVID-19 outbreak.

Abstract The first global workshop on implementation of the WHO guidelines on procedures and data requirements for changes to approved biotherapeutic products adopted by the WHO Expert Committee in 2018 was held in June 2019. The workshop participants recognized that the principles based on sound science and the potential for risk, as described in the WHO Guidelines on post-approval changes, which constitute the global standard for product life-cycle management are providing clarity and helping national regulatory authorities in establishing guidance while improving time-lines for an efficient regulation of products. Consequently, the regulatory situation for post-approval changes and guideline implementation is changing but there is a disparity between different countries. While the guidelines are gradually being implemented in some countries and also being considered in other countries, the need for regional workshops and further training on post-approval changes was a common theme reiterated by many participants. Given the complexities relating to post-approval changes in different regions/countries, there was a clear understanding among all participants that an efficient approach for product life-cycle management at a national level is needed to ensure faster availability of high standard, safe and efficacious medicines to patients as per the World Health Assembly Resolution 67.21.

Abstract No abstract available. Article truncated after 150 words. History of Present Illness: A 28 year-old woman with a history of cystic fibrosis, presented with worsening shortness of breath and cough associated with productive secretions. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was 14 months old, and has a history of multiple inpatient admissions for acute pulmonary exacerbation of cystic fibrosis. Her most recent hospitalization was a month prior to this admission, and sputum culture demonstrated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Achromobacter xylosoxidans. She was treated with linezolide, meropenum, colistin, and azithromycin with significant symptom improvement, then, discharged home with ciprofloxacin, linezolide and zosyn. However, she developed worsening respiratory distress again and came back to hospital. In the emergency department she required 10 L/min of oxygen to maintain an SpO2 above 90 %. PMH: cystic fibrosis, seizure, kidney stone, portacath placement, gastrostomy tube placement. Medications: azithromycin 500 mg 3 times, dornase alpha 1 mg/ml nebulizer twice .
