Abstract Acute lung injury is a common critical illness in neonates. Ferroptosis, a novel form of programmed cell death, plays an important role in the process of acute lung injury by regulating iron homeostasis, metabolism of amino acid and lipid peroxidation. In-depth study of the mechanism of ferroptosis in acute lung injury may provide new ideas for its prevention and treatment.

Abstract It is widely accepted that the minus strands of positive single-strand RNA (+ssRNA) viruses function as replication templates only. Gong et al. revealed that the minus strand of two unrelated +ssRNA viruses encodes proteins. This textbook-changing discovery calls for the reconsideration of the molecular mechanisms underlying the infection cycle of +ssRNA viruses.

Abstract Peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) represent an effective method for the remediation of antibiotic-contaminated soils. In this study, a natural pyrite-biochar composite material (FBCx) was developed, demonstrating superior activation performance and achieving a 76% removal rate of SMX from soil within 120 min. There existed different degradation mechanisms for SMX in aqueous and soil solutions, respectively. The production of

Abstract Scalable, high-capacity, and low-power computing architecture is the primary assurance for increasingly manifold and large-scale machine learning tasks. Traditional electronic artificial agents by conventional power-hungry processors have faced the issues of energy and scaling walls, hindering them from the sustainable performance improvement and iterative multi-task learning. Referring to another modality of light, photonic computing has been progressively applied in high-efficient neuromorphic systems. Here, we innovate a reconfigurable lifelong-learning optical neural network (L

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of POU6F2-AS2 in the development of gastric cancer. POU6F2-AS2 expression was considerably higher in clinical stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) tissues and gastric cancer cell lines (MKN-28 and MGC-803) than in neighbouring normal tissues and gastric mucosa epithelial cells (GES-1). POU6F2-AS2 overexpression resulted in a low overall survival probability, progression-free survival probability and post progression survival probability, as well as increased cell viability, migration and invasion of gastric cancer cells, thereby inhibiting apoptosis. Based on RNA pull-down, cycloheximide and MG132 incubation experiments, POU6F2-AS2 promoted SKP2 by stabilizing NONO expression. In addition,

Abstract Dissolved black carbon (DBC) has high photoactivity, which plays an important role in contaminants photodegradation. However, it is unclear how pyrolysis temperatures would affect the composition and photo-reactivity of DBC at the molecular level. Herein, we combined complementary techniques to study the characteristics of DBC pyrolyzed at 200 - 500 ℃, as well as the photoproduction of reactive species and the photodegradation of tetracycline (TC). Bulk composition characterization found that condensed aromatic carbonyl compounds (ConAC) with narrow molecular weights in DBC experienced an increase from 200 to 500 °C, which enhanced the photoproduction of

Abstract Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), one of the most abundant immune cell types in the tumor microenvironment (TME), account for approximately 50% of the local hematopoietic cells. TAMs play an important role in tumorigenesis and tumor development through crosstalk between various immune cells and cytokines in the TME. Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles with a diameter of 50-150 nm, that can transfer biological information (e.g., proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids) from secretory cells to recipient cells through the circulatory system, thereby influencing the progression of various human diseases, including cancer. Recent studies have suggested that TAMs-derived exosomes play crucial roles in malignant cell proliferation, invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, immune responses, drug resistance, and tumor metabolic reprogramming. TAMs-derived exosomes have the potential to be targeted for tumor therapy. In addition, the abnormal expression of non-coding RNAs and proteins in TAMs-derived exosomes is closely related to the clinicopathological features of patients with cancer, and these exosomes are expected to become new liquid biopsy markers for the early diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of tumors. In this review, we explored the role of TAMs-derived exosomes in tumorigenesis to provide new diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for cancer prevention.

Abstract This article describes an ensemble of datasets used to understand the relationship between generalized severe periodontitis and hematological parameters. This dataset combines public periodontal examination data, hematological parameters data, and demographic data from the National Center for Health Statistics from 2009 to 2014. The stage of periodontitis was identified by attachment loss conducted by dental examiners, who were dentists (D.D.S./ D.M.D.) licensed in at least one U.S. state, while matching current classification criteria from the American Academy of Periodontology and the European Federation of Periodontology. Based on the NHANES database, information on age, gender, education level (< 9th grade, 9–11th grade, high school, college, graduate), race/ethnicity (Mexican American, Hispanic, non-Hispanic White, non-Hispanic Black, and other races), PIR (poverty income ratio) were acquired from the demographic data. Hematological parameters (including HB, HCT, mean cell volume, mean cell hemoglobin, mean cell hemoglobin concentration, red cell distribution width, platelet count, mean platelet volume, and red blood cell count) and glucose data had been obtained from laboratory data. Smoking data had been obtained from questionnaire data.
