Abstract Flexible indium tin oxide (ITO)/Y2O3/Ag resistive random access memory (RRAM) devices were successfully fabricated using a thermal-energy-free ultraviolet (UV)/ozone-assisted photochemical annealing process. Using the UV/ozone-assisted photochemical process, the organic residue can be eliminated, and thinner and smother Y2O3 films than those formed using other methods can be fabricated. The flexible UV/ozone-assisted photochemical annealing process-based ITO/Y2O3/Ag RRAM devices exhibited the properties of conventional bipolar RRAM without any forming process. Furthermore, the pure and amorphous-phase Y2O3 films formed via this process showed a decreased leakage current and an increased high-resistance status (HRS) compared with the films formed using other methods. Therefore, RRAM devices can be realized on plastic substrates using a thermal-energy-free UV/ozone-assisted photochemical annealing process. The fabricated devices exhibited a resistive window (ratio of HRS/low-resistance status (LRS)) of >104, with the HRS and LRS values remaining almost the same (i.e., limited deterioration occurred) for 104 s and up to 102 programming/erasing operation cycles.

Abstract Phase change materials (PCMs) have attracted significant attention as promising insulating materials. However, they often suffer from the simple yet critical problem of leakage in practical applications. Therefore, in this study, an injectable PCM emulsion insulation platform is developed. For this, n-hexadecane, as a PCM, emulsion droplets are armored with a metal-organic membrane (MOM) through the coordination of zinc ions and phytic acid. The MOM layer not only provides a rigid interfacial modulus but also allows the emulsion to exhibit viscoelastic behavior by shear stress-induced interdrop association. This MOM-enveloped PCM emulsion (PCME

Abstract We herein report transparent self-cleaning coatings based on polyimide-fluorinated silica sol (PIFSS) nanocomposite. Polyamic acid-silica sol (PASS) suspensions were synthesized by adding four different amounts of a silica sol suspension to each end-capped polyamic acid solution. The PASS suspensions were spin-coated on glass slides, thermally imidized and treated with triethoxy-1

Abstract: ... the penetration depth by modifying the sol-gel kinetics. Furthermore, TALE can serve as drug carriers ...

Abstract Liquid embolic agents are considered the most promising for various embolization procedures because they enable deep penetration. For realizing effective procedures, the delivery of liquid embolic agents should be guided under X-ray imaging systems and the solidification time should be optimized for the specific indication. The biocompatibility of embolic agents is also crucial because they remain in the vessel after embolization. In this study, new biocompatible embolic agents based on tantalum ethoxide is synthesized. Tantalum alkoxide liquid embolics (TALE) possess the radiopacity for fluoroscopy and can control the penetration depth by modifying the sol-gel kinetics. Furthermore, TALE can serve as drug carriers for synergistic treatment. Using these excellent characteristics, it is demonstrated that TALE agents can be used in various situations including the transarterial chemoembolization of hepatocellular carcinoma and embolotherapy of massive bleeding from the femoral artery.

Abstract Aside from being known for its excellent mechanical properties and aesthetic effect, zirconia has recently attracted attention as a new dental implant material. Many studies have focused on hydroxyapatite (HA) coating for obtaining improved biocompatibility, however the coating stability was reduced by a byproduct produced during the high-temperature sintering process. In this study, to overcome this problem, we simply coated the zirconia surface with a sol-gel-derived hydroxyapatite (HA) layer and then sintered it at a varied temperature (<1000 °C). The surface showed a nanoporous structure, and there was no crystalline phase other than HA and zirconia when the sintering temperature was 800 °C. The adhesion strength of the HA layer (>40 MPa) was also appropriate as a dental implant application. In addition, in vitro cell experiments using a preosteoblast cell line revealed that the HA-coated zirconia surface acts as a preferable surface for cell attachment and proliferation than bare zirconia surface. In vivo animal experiments also demonstrated that the osteoconductivity of zirconia were dramatically enhanced by HA coating, which was comparable to that of Ti implant. These results suggest that the sol-gel-based HA-coated zirconia has a great potential for use as a dental implant material.
