    Abstract Background Oligodendrogliomas, rare brain tumors in the frontal lobe's white matter, are reshaped by molecular markers like isocitrate dehydrogenase mutations and 1p/19q co-deletion, influencing treatment outcomes. Despite the initial indolence, these tumors pose a significant risk, with a median survival of 10-12 years. Non-invasive alternatives, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for assessing T2-fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) mismatch and calcifications, provide insights into molecular subtypes and aid prognosis. Our study explored these features to predict the oligodendroglioma status and refine patient management to improve outcomes. Methods In this retrospective study, patient data identified patients with suspected central nervous system tumors undergoing MRI, revealing low-grade gliomas. Surgical biopsy and 1p/19q fluorescence in situ hybridization confirmed the co-deletion status. MRI was used to assess various morphological features. Statistical analyses included x2 tests, Fisher's exact tests, Kruskal-Wallis tests, and binary logistic regression models, with significance set at p < 0.05. Results Seventy-three patients (median age, 37 years) were stratified according to 1p/19q co-deletion. Most (61.6%) were 18-40 years old and mostly male (67.1%). Co-deletion cases, primarily frontal lobe lesions (67.6%), were unilateral (88.2%), with 55.9% non-circumscribed margins and 58.8% ill-defined contours. Smooth contrast enhancement and no necrosis were observed in 48.1% of 1p/19q co-deletion cases. Logistic regression analysis showed a significant association between ill-defined/irregular contours and 1p/19q co-deletion. Fisher's exact test confirmed this but raised concerns about the small sample size influencing the conclusions. Conclusions This study established a significant link between glioma tumor contour characteristics, particularly irregular and ill-defined contours, and the likelihood of 1p/19q co-deletion. Our findings underscore the clinical relevance of using tumor contours in treatment decisions and prognosis assessments.

    Abstract Objectives: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and neoplasms have been considered as public health concerns worldwide. This study aimed to estimate the epidemiological patterns of death burden on CVDs and neoplasms and its attributable risk factors in Western Europe from 1990 to 2019 to discuss the potential causes of the disparities.
    Study design and methods: We collected data on CVDs and neoplasms deaths in 24 Western European countries from the Global Burden of Disease Study. We analyzed patterns by age, sex, country, and associated risk factors. The results include percentages of total deaths, age-standardized death rates per 100,000 population, and uncertainty intervals (UIs). Time trends were assessed using annual percent change.
    Results: In 2019, CVDs and neoplasms accounted for 33.54% and 30.15% of Western Europe's total deaths, with age-standardized death rates of 128.05 (95% UI: 135.37, 113.02) and 137.51 (95% UI: 142.54, 128.01) per 100,000. Over 1990-2019, CVDs rates decreased by 54.97%, and neoplasms rates decreased by 19.54%. Top CVDs subtypes were ischemic heart disease and stroke; top cancers for neoplasms were lung and colorectal. Highest CVD death burdens were in Finland, Greece, Austria; neoplasm burdens in Monaco, San Marino, Andorra. The major risk factors were metabolic (CVDs) and behavioral (neoplasms). Gender differences revealed higher CVDs death burden in males, while neoplasms burden varied by risk factors and age groups.
    Conclusion: In 2019, CVDs and neoplasms posed significant health risks in Western Europe, with variations in death burdens and risk factors across genders, age groups, and countries. Future interventions should target vulnerable groups to lessen the impact of CVDs and neoplasms in the region.

    Abstract Oral route of drug administration is typically the initial option for drug administration because it is both practical and affordable. However, major drawback of this route includes the release of drug at a specified place thus reduces the bioavailability. This could be overcome by utilising the gastroretentive drug delivery system (GRRDS). Prolonged stomach retention improves bioavailability and increases solubility for medicines that are unable to dissolve in high pH environments. Many recent advancements in the floating, bio adhesive, magnetic, expandable, raft forming and ion exchange systems have been made that had led towards advanced form of drug delivery. From the past few years, floating drug delivery system has been most commonly utilised for the delivery of drug in a delayed manner. Various polymers have been utilised for manufacturing of these systems, including alginates, chitosan, pectin, carrageenan's, xanthan gum, hydroxypropyl cellulose, carbomer, polyethylene oxide and sodium carboxy methyl cellulose. Chitosan, pectin and xanthan gum have been found to be most commonly used polymers in the manufacturing of drug inclusion complex for gastroretentive drug delivery. This study aimed to define various types and advanced polymers as well as also highlights recent advances and future perspectives of gastroretentive drug delivery system.

    Abstract Background: Health care providers are mandated to deliver specialized care for the treatment and control of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In Malaysia, Diabetes Medication Therapy Adherence Clinics (DMTAC) in tertiary hospitals have designated pharmacists to administer these services.
    Objective: To assess the effects of pharmacist-led interventions within DMTAC on the outcomes of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in two distinct hospitals in Kedah, Malaysia.
    Methods: Patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly selected from the two hospitals included in this study. The study population was divided into two equal groups. The control group consisted of 200 patients receiving routine care from the hospitals. On the other hand, the intervention group included those patients with type 2 diabetes (200), who received separate counseling sessions from pharmacists in the DMTAC departments along with the usual treatment. The study lasted 1 year, during which both study groups participated in two distinct visits.

    Conclusion: Based on the findings of the current study it has been proven that the involvement of pharmacists leads to improved control of diabetes mellitus. Therefore, it is recommended that the government initiate DMTAC services in both private and government hospitals and clinics throughout Malaysia. Furthermore, future studies should assess the impact of pharmacist interventions on other chronic conditions, including but not limited to asthma, arthritis, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and dementia.
