Abstract A sub-bituminous natural coal sample (R.C) was treated with sulfuric acid (S.C) and nitric acid (N.C) as modified products and enhanced adsorbents for obtaining ciprofloxacin (CFX) antibiotic residuals from water. The characterization studied demonstrates enhancement in the surface area and the incorporation of new active oxygenated, sulfur-bearing, and nitrogen-bearing chemical groups into the structure of coal samples. This was reflected in the adsorption capacities that were enhanced from 164.08 mg/g (R.C) to 489.2 mg/g and 518.5 mg/g for N.C and S.C, respectively. The impact of the acid modification processes was evaluated based on the energetic and steric properties of their adsorption systems considering the parameters of the advanced monolayer equilibrium model with one energy site. The determined occupied active sites' density of R.C (46.32-61.44 mg/g), N.C (168.7-364.9 mg/g), and S.C (159.2-249.9 mg/g) reflects an increase in the quantities of active centers after the acid treatment processes, especially with HNO

Abstract Anaerobic digestion is a popular unit operation in wastewater treatment to degrade organic contaminants, thereby generating biogas (methane-rich gas stream). Catalytic decomposition of the biogas could be a promising upcycling approach to produce renewable hydrogen and sequester carbon in the form of carbon nanomaterials (CNMs). Biosolids are solid waste generated during the wastewater treatment process, which can be valorised to biochar via pyrolysis. This work demonstrates the use of biosolids-derived biochar compared with ilmenite as catalysts for biogas decomposition to hydrogen and CNMs. Depending on the reaction time, biosolids-derived biochar achieved a CH

Abstract A 40 cm length Bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane (BTESE) membrane having different pore sizes was successfully prepared by changing the number of coating times for gas permeation (GP) and organic solvent reverse osmosis (OSRO) separation study. It was found that BTESE-6 membranes prepared through six-time coating consisted of small-sized pores in the range 0.56 to 0.64 nm estimated using modified Gas Translation (mGT) method and 0.59 to 0.67 nm estimated by nanopermporometry (NPP) method, respectively. These membranes demonstrated a high DMF rejection,

Abstract Corrosion poses safety and operational challenges in the oil and gas field, particularly in a sour environment. Corrosion inhibitors (CIs) are thus employed to protect the integrity of industrial assets. However, CIs have the potential to dramatically impair the effectiveness of other co-additives, such as kinetic hydrate inhibitors (KHIs). Here, we propose an acryloyl-based copolymer, previously used as a KHI, as an effective CI. The copolymer formulation provided a corrosion inhibition efficiency of up to 90% in a gas production environment, implying that it can reduce or even eliminate the need for an additional dedicated CI in the system. It also demonstrated a corrosion inhibition efficiency of up to 60% under field-simulated conditions for a wet sour crude processing environment. Molecular modeling suggests that the enhanced corrosion protection is imparted by the favorable interaction of the heteroatoms of the copolymer with the steel surface, potentially displacing adhered water molecules. All in all, we show that an acryloyl-based copolymer with dual functionalities can potentially overcome issues caused by incompatibilities in a sour environment, resulting in significant cost savings and operational ease.

Abstract In this work, an innovative integrated system that is incorporated from solid oxide electrolysis cells and an oxygen separator membrane is assessed and optimized from the techno-economic aspects to respond to oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen demands for hospitals and other health care applications. Besides, a parametric comparison is conducted to apprehend the weights of parameters changes on the performance of criteria. Relying on the assessments, from the hydrogen production of 1 kg/s, 23.19 kg/s of oxygen, and 50.22 kg/s of nitrogen are produced. The parametric study shows that by raising the working temperature of the electrolyzer, the cell voltage variation has descending trend and the power consumption of the system is decreased by 19%. Finally, the results of multi-criteria optimization on the Pareto front reveal that in the optimal case, the system payback period is attained at about 5.32 years and the exergy efficiency of 92.47%, which are improved 16.6% and 16.2% compared to the base case, sequentially. Consequently, this system is proposed to consider as a cost-effective and reliable option towards its vital and valuable productions, in the pandemic period and after's.
