Abstract Background: The worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has still been an overwhelming public health challenge, and it is vital to identify determinants early to forecast the risk of severity using indicators easily available at admission. The current multicenter retrospective study aimed to derive and validate a user-friendly and effective nomogram to address this issue.
Methods: A training cohort consisting of 437 confirmed COVID-19 cases from three hospitals in Hubei province (Tongji Hospital affiliated with Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan Third Hospital of Wuhan University and Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital in Hubei province) was retrospectively analyzed to construct a predicting model, and another cohort of 161 hospitalized patients from Public Health Clinical Center of Shanghai was selected as an external validation cohort from January 1, 2020 to March 8, 2020. Determinants of developing into severe COVID-19 were probed using univariate regression together with a multivariate stepwise regression model. The risk of progression to severe COVID-19 was forecasted using the derived nomogram. The performances of the nomogram regarding the discrimination and calibration were assessed in the cohort of training as well as the cohort of external validation, respectively.
Results: A total of 144 (32.95%) and 54 (33.54%) patients, respectively, in cohorts of training and validation progressed to severe COVID-19 during hospitalization. Multivariable analyses showed determinants of severity consisted of hypertension, shortness of breath, platelet count, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), potassium, cardiac troponin I (cTnI), myohemoglobin, procalcitonin (PCT) and intervals from onset to diagnosis. The nomogram had good discrimination with concordance indices being 0.887 (95% CI: 0.854-0.919) and 0.850 (95% CI: 0.815-0.885) in internal and external validation, respectively. Calibration curves exhibited excellent concordance between the predictions by nomogram and actual observations in two cohorts.
Conclusions: We have established and validated an early predicting nomogram model, which can contribute to determine COVID-19 cases at risk of progression to severe illness.

Abstract Lead-based reactor is a new type of reactor using liquid lead or lead-bismuth alloy as a coolant. As the core working element of the main pump, the impeller is subjected to a huge load when conveying heavy metal liquids and is highly susceptible to damage. In this study, we used ANSYS and FLUENT software to investigate the stress, deformation, and creep deformation of the nuclear main pump impeller under a liquid lead-bismuth environment by the fluid-solid coupling method. The maximum equivalent force of the impeller was located at the junction of the blade and hub, which was prone to fatigue damage under the action of alternating load. The stress, deformation, and creep characteristics of the impeller blade were observed to generally increase with rotational speed. Particularly, the junction of the blade root and hub exhibited high susceptibility to stress concentration and fatigue damage. At a flow rate of 0.64 m/s and a speed of 690 r/min, the maximum equivalent force was 16.7 MPa, which was lower than the yield strength of 316L stainless steel. Additionally, the maximum deformation was less than 0.63 mm. Over a five-year period, the creep of the impeller ranged from a minimum of 0.228% to a maximum of 0.447%, indicating that the impeller can reliably operate in a liquid lead-bismuth environment for at least five years.

Abstract The study discusses the effect of co-agglomeration between the producer service industry and the high-tech manufacturing industry on regional innovation efficiency. Based on data from public companies of three urban agglomerations from 2011 to 2019, we used the Data Envelopment Approach (DEA)- Banker, Charnes, Cooper (BCC) model to estimate real innovation efficiency. Results found that the industrial co-agglomeration and regional innovation efficiency have an “inverted U-shaped” relationship. The industrial co-agglomeration in regions with a low level of co-agglomeration plays an important role in expediting regional innovation efficiency than that in high-level areas of co-agglomeration. Moreover, it is confirmed that the prefecture-level cities of the three urban agglomerations have low innovation efficiency types and low collaborative agglomeration types. Yangtze and Pearl river delta urban agglomeration can promote innovation efficiency through industrial co-agglomeration. While for the industrial co-agglomeration of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, the urban agglomeration has not become the main way to promote innovation efficiency. The regression results of different industry collaborative agglomeration found that the co-agglomeration of information transmission, computer services, software industries, and the high-tech manufacturing industry plays a significant role to improve innovation efficiency. Moreover, the co-agglomeration of the transportation service industry and high-tech manufacturing industry plays a relatively weak role in regional innovation efficiency. Therefore, it is suggested to formulate more adaptive and heterogeneous market policies. The paper provides an important idea for improving innovation efficiency by optimizing industrial spatial layout.

Abstract One-dimensional morphodynamic models are effective tools to conduct flood risk assessment and sediment management of alluvial rivers. In order to gain better understanding of morphodynamic models and improve the simulation efficiency and accuracy, a comprehensive investigation into parameter sensitivity and uncertainty has been conducted for a one-dimensional morphodynamic model. This model was calibrated using the measured flow and sediment data in the Lower Yellow River (LYR). The variance-based Sobol' and GLUE (Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation) tools were applied to quantify the parameter sensitivity and uncertainty to the simulation of different hydrological indicators in the meandering reach, with various model response surfaces selected. Results show that the importance of input parameters varied with different model outputs. The simulated water level and discharge hydrographs were more sensitive to the roughness coefficient at middle and high flows, with high total- and first-order sensitivity indices to the NSEs and RMSEs, while the simulated sediment concentration was more sensitive to the input parameters related to sediment transport capacity (K and M) and recovery coefficient (bd). Notably, the pairwise interactions between K and different roughness coefficients were significant in the simulated sediment concentration hydrographs. Spatio-temporal variability in the effect of input parameters is also revealed. The most contributing factor was screened as K for the maximum sediment concentration in the uppermost and lowermost reaches of the meandering reach, which turned to be bd in the middle reach. The most sensitive parameter to the simulated sediment concentration was screened as K in the initial period and then turned to be the exponent of recovery coefficient in case of degradation, which was bd in the last period over the simulation period. An analysis of parameter uncertainty indicates that the morphodynamic model can obtain satisfactory accuracy with most observed data concentrating in the 95% confidence interval, and the uncertainty of simulation outputs increased downstream. Improved understanding of parameter sensitivity and uncertainty in morphodynamic modelling can provide the scientific guidance for factor prioritization in the future model calibration.
