    Abstract El siguiente artículo presenta avances preliminares de un estudio doctoral, el cual tiene como primer objetivo identificar las competencias lingüísticas previas de inglés que traen los estudiantes al ingresar a su programa de formación docente en este idioma, con el fin de proponer acciones didácticas que mitiguen las dificultades que se puedan encontrar. Este estudio utiliza un enfoque mixto, donde se vinculan datos cualitativos y cuantitativos. Para fines de recolección de datos, se administró un test diagnóstico de inglés a 42 estudiantes, considerado una unidad de análisis dentro de la estrategia de estudio de caso. El test evaluó las cuatro macro habilidades del idioma inglés y la micro habilidad de gramática. Para el análisis estadístico descriptivo se empleó el software SPSS y el programa Excel. Así mismo, el análisis de los resultados obtenidos en el test diagnóstico utilizó como referencia los descriptores de MCER (2002) en los niveles A1, A2, B1. Según los resultados, se puede determinar que los estudiantes de primer año alcanzaron un nivel de usuario básico A1 de acuerdo con la escala de descriptores, lo cual indica que ellos tienen las competencias básicas suficientes para interactuar en conversaciones muy sencillas y cotidianas. Las habilidades en las cuales los participantes demostraron mayor dificultad fueron: comprensión auditiva, expresión oral y escrita.

    Abstract El siguiente artículo presenta una revisión bibliográfica sobre el aprendizaje significativo, propuesto por David Ausubel, en la que se describe su significado, naturaleza, y características, con el objetivo de analizar su valor en la educación superior. Igualmente, se explican las características de un material de aprendizaje potencialmente significativo, tipos de aprendizajes significativos y la adquisición del conocimiento. Se parte de la premisa de que el aprendizaje significativo surge cuando el alumno, como constructor de su propio conocimiento, relaciona los conceptos a aprender y les da un sentido a partir de la estructura conceptual que ya posee. De este modo, construye nuevos conocimientos al relacionar los conceptos nuevos con la experiencia que ya tiene. Este artículo aborda de manera particular la pertinencia de este tipo de aprendizaje aplicado a la educación superior, específicamente a la UNAN MANAGUA. Con tal fin, se aplicó la investigación documental, como una técnica de investigación cualitativa, exploratoria y analítica para la recolección de información relevante sobre la importancia del aprendizaje significativo en la construcción de conocimientos, de este modo se recopiló y seleccionó información mediante la lectura de documentos, libros, revistas, periódicos, bibliografías, etc. Se llegó a la conclusión de que el aprendizaje significativo es un reto y una oportunidad para la construcción de los nuevos saberes, lo que implica la necesidad de cambios estructurales en la educación superior para cualificar a los futuros profesionales con actitud crítica, propositiva y reflexiva.

    Abstract The following essay reports on a short exploratory qualitative study given to pre-service English teachers who were studying the class of linguistics. In the linguistics class, they studied a chapter related to how adults learn a language, and the phases they go through. Due to the relevance of this topic, the instructor asked pre-service English teachers to reflect and examine on their learning critically from two different perspectives - my reflection as a language learner and my reflection on learning. This essay used a series of open and reflective questions as the primary source of data and asked 20 pre-service English teachers to write a two-page reflection paper about their experience learning English. For the purpose of this essay, data analysis was conducted using the grounded theory approach that involved comparing a piece of data with others. Eight essays were selected using random sampling. The results exposed the different challenges and strategies that pre-service English teachers have gone through so as to learn the language and how these have changed along the years. The essay presents both some theoretical background and challenges.

    Abstract The replacement of agrochemicals by biomolecules is imperative to mitigate soil contamination and inactivation of its core microbiota. Within this context, this study aimed at the interaction between a biological control agent such as Trichoderma harzianum CCT 2160 (BF-Th) and the biosurfactants (BSs) derived from the native Brazilian yeast Starmerella bombicola UFMG-CM-Y6419. Thereafter, their potential in germination of Oryza sativa L. seeds was tested. Both bioproducts were produced on site and characterized according to their chemical composition by HPLC-MS and GC-MS for BSs and SDS-PAGE gel for BF-Th. The BSs were confirmed to be sophorolipids (SLs) which is a well-studied compound with antimicrobial activity. The biocompatibility was examined by cultivating the fungus with SLs supplementation ranging from 0.1 to 2 g/L in solid and submerged fermentation. In solid state fermentation the supplementation of SLs enhanced spore production, conferring the synergy of both bioproducts. For the germination assays, bioformulations composed of SLs, BF-Th and combined (SLT) were applied in the germination of O. sativa L seeds achieving an improvement of up to 30% in morphological aspects such as root and shoot size as well as the presence of lateral roots. It was hypothesized that SLs were able to regulate phytohormones expression such as auxins and gibberellins during early stage of growth, pointing to their novel plant-growth stimulating properties. Thus, this study has pointed to the potential of hybrid bioformulations composed of biosurfactants and active endophytic fungal spores in order to augment the plant fitness and possibly the control of diseases.
