Abstract Methionine restriction (MR) has been shown to suppress tumor growth and improve the responses to various anticancer therapies. However, methionine itself is required for the proliferation, activation, and differentiation of T cells that are crucial for antitumor immunity. The dual impact of methionine, that influences both tumor and immune cells, has generated concerns regarding the potential consequences of MR on T cell immunity and its possible role in promoting cancer. In this review we systemically examine current literature on the interactions between dietary methionine, cancer cells, and immune cells. Based on recent findings on MR in immunocompetent animals, we further discuss how tumor stage-specific methionine dependence of immune cells and cancer cells in the tumor microenvironment could ultimately dictate the response of tumors to MR.

Abstract With the progress of urbanization, the natural geographical characteristics of different river basins have also undergone tremendous changes, and bring many environmental and social issues. It is of great significance to the sustainable development of river basins to reveal the relationship between topographic and landscape patterns. Therefore, we selected Tingjiang river basin, utilizing remote sensing images from 1991, 2004, and 2017, as well as the digital elevation model (DEM) data, we computed a topographic classification system consisting of four levels (Low level, Low-medium level, Medium-high level, High level). This approach enables us to study the gradient impact of topography and investigate the mechanism influencing the landscape pattern. The results show: (1) Low-medium and medium-high topographic levels are dominant in the research sites, accounting 49.35% and 38.47%, respectively. (2) Bare land showed a significant decrease while construction, cultivated, and forest land increased from 1991 to 2017. (3) Forest land is mainly concentrated in the middle-high and high-topographic levels whereas construction land, cultivated land, water area and bare land are mainly concentrated in the middle-low and low-topographic level. (4) The landscape pattern significantly varies with the topographic gradient, where the conversion to construction land is widespread in the low-topographic area, while alternation between cultivated land and forest land mainly occurs in the medium-low and medium-high topographic areas. Consequently, these findings provide insights into the impact of topography on river basin landscape pattern, which could guide sustainable development in the future.

Abstract γδ T cells play a critical role in homeostasis and diseases such as infectious diseases and tumors in both mice and humans. They can be categorized into two main functional subsets: IFN-γ-producing γδT1 cells and IL-17-producing γδT17 cells. While CD27 expression segregates these two subsets in mice, little is known about human γδT17 cell differentiation and expansion. Previous studies have identified γδT17 cells in human skin and mucosal tissues, including the oral cavity and colon. However, human γδ T cells from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) primarily produce IFN-γ. In this protocol, we describe a method for in vitro expansion and polarization of human γδT17 cells from PBMCs. Key Features • Expansion of γδ T cells from peripheral blood mononuclear cells. • Human IL-17A-producing γδ T-cell differentiation and expansion using IL-7 and anti-γδTCR. • Analysis of IL-17A production post γδ T-cell expansion.

Abstract Background: Our meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of applying Herbst and Twin Block appliances in the treatment of Class II malocclusion among children.
Methods: Databases, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China VIP Database (VIP), and Wanfang were thoroughly searched from inception to August 9, 2023. The outcomes included skeletal, dental, and soft tissue changes. The weighted mean difference (WMD) was used as the effect indicator, and the effect size was expressed with a 95% confidence interval (CI). The heterogeneity of each outcome effect size was tested, and the heterogeneity statistic I
Results: A total of 12 studies involving 574 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Herbst appliance had a statistically significant increase in mandibular body length (WMD: 1.44, 95% CI: 0.93 to 1.96, P < 0.001) compared with the Twin Block appliance. More increases in angle and distance of L1 to mandibular plane (MP) were found in the Herbst appliance compared with the Twin Block appliance. Significant and greater improvements in molar relationship (WMD: 0.79, 95% CI: 0.28 to 1.29, P = 0.002), posterior facial height (WMD: -1.23, 95% CI: -2.08 to -0.38, P = 0.005), convexity angle (WMD: -1.89, 95% CI: -3.12 to -0.66, P = 0.003), and Sella-Nasion plane angle (U1 to SN) (WMD: 3.34, 95% CI: 2.25 to 4.43, P < 0.001) were achieved in the Twin Block appliance. Herbst and Twin Block appliances produced similar effects in the skeletal and dentoalveolar changes including Sella-Nasion-point A (SNA), Sella-Nasion-point B, point A-Nasion-point B (ANB), overjet, and overbite.
Conclusion: As the findings revealed both Herbst and Twin Block appliances contributed successfully to the correction of Class II malocclusion. Compared with the Twin Block appliance, the Herbst appliance may have more advantages in mandibular bone movement. Twin Block therapy resulted in more improvement in the aesthetics of the face.
