Abstract Isoetin derivatives are a rare class of flavonoids with a rather erratic occurrence across the plant kingdom. The Cichorieae tribe of the Asteraceae family has proven to be a rich source and a centre of chemical diversity of this class of compounds. Here, we describe the chromatographic isolation and mainly NMR-based structure elucidation of a previously undescribed isoetin derivative from Leontodon hispidus L. (Asteraceae, Cichorieae). The chemophenetic relevance is discussed briefly.

Title translation Correlation between insufficiency or deficiency of vitamin D levels and interleukins 1β and 6.
Abstract Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to define the relationship between vitamin D levels and interleukins (IL) 1β and 6 as inflammatory markers in a healthy population. As a secondary objective, to measure the prevalence of insufficiency/ deficiency of vitamin D in the same population.
Methods: A sample of 43 healthy blood donors, without chronic-degenerative, inflammatory, or infectious diseases, and without obesity, was selected. Serum levels of IL-1β and IL-6 were measured in individuals with insufficiency or deficiency of vitamin D. The correlation between vitamin D and interleukins was measured using Spearman's rho.
Results: No correlation was found between levels of vitamin D and interleukins. In addition, a prevalence of insufficiency/deficiency of vitamin D was found in 95.3% of the sample.
Conclusions: In healthy subjects with deficiency or insufficiency of vitamin D, there is no association between the levels of this vitamin and IL-1β and IL-6.

Abstract La D.O.

Abstract Introduction: Some patients with SARSCov-2 infection develop severe disease (SARS); however, the factors associated with severity are not yet fully understood. Some reports indicate that liver injury may be a poor prognostic factor. Aim: To identify the biochemical factors related to the development of SARS with mechanical ventilation (MV) requirement in patients with SARSCov-2 and COVID-19. Methods Type of study: Observational. Cohort study. Procedure: Data from COVID-19 patients were collected at admission time to a tertiary care center. Differential factors were identified between seriously ill SARS+MV patients versus stable patients without MV. Transformation to the natural logarithm of significant variables was performed and multiple linear regression was applied, then a predictive model of severity called AAD (Age-AST-D dimer) was constructed. Results: 166 patients were included, 114(68.7%) men, mean age 50.6±13.3 years-old, 27(16.3%) developed SARS+MV. In the comparative analysis between those with SARS+MV versus stable patients without MV we found significant raises of ALT (225.4±341.2 vs. 41.3±41.1; P=0.003), AST 325.3±382.4 vs. 52.8±47.1; P=0.001), LDH (764.6±401.9 vs. 461.0±185.6; P=0.001), D dimer (7765±9109 vs. 1871±4146; P=0.003), age (58.6±12.7 vs. 49.1±12.8; P=0-001). The results of the regression are shown in the Table, where model 3 was the one that best explained the development of SARS+MV; with these variables was constructed the model called AAD, where: [AAD= 3.896 + ln(age)x-0.218 + ln(AST)x-0.185 + ln(DD)x0.070], where a value ≤ 2.75 had sensitivity=0.797 and 1-specificity= 0.391, AUROC=0.74 (95%CI: 0.62-0.86; P<0.0001), to predict the risk of developing SARS+MV (OR=5.8, 95%CI: 2.2-15.4; P=0.001). Conclusions: Elevation of AST (probable marker of liver damage) is an important predictor of progression to SARS, together with elevation of D-dimer and age early (at admission) and efficiently predict which patients will potentially require MV.

Abstract: ... the cause of diabetic nephropathy (DN) in diabetic patients. Dihydrochalcone 3′- O -β- d -glucopyranosyl α,4 ...

Abstract Previous studies have shown that accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) can be the cause of diabetic nephropathy (DN) in diabetic patients. Dihydrochalcone 3′- O -β- d -glucopyranosyl α,4,2′,4′,6′-pentahydroxy–dihydrochalcone ( 1 ) is a powerful antiglycation compound previously isolated from Eysenhardtia polystachya . The aim was to investigate whether ( 1 ) was able to protect against diabetic nephropathy in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice, which displayed renal dysfunction markers such as body weight, creatinine, uric acid, serum urea, total urinary protein, and urea nitrogen in the blood (BUN). In addition, pathological changes were evaluated including glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in the kidney, as well as in circulation level and pro-inflammatory markers ICAM-1 levels in diabetic mice. After 5 weeks, these elevated markers of dihydrochalcone treatment (25, 50 and 100 mg/kg) were significantly ( p < 0.05) attenuated. In addition, they ameliorate the indices of renal inflammation as indicated by ICAM-1 markers. The kidney and circulatory AGEs levels in diabetic mice were significantly ( p < 0.05) attenuated by ( 1 ) treatment. Histological analysis of kidney tissues showed an important recovery in its structure compared with the diabetic group. It was found that the compound ( 1 ) attenuated the renal damage in diabetic mice by inhibiting AGEs formation.

Abstract Solid-phase extraction cartridges (SPE)-GC/MS method was used to analyse red wines aromas. The matrix effect was studied with chemicals standard prepared in synthetic wines with water/alcohol solutions (12% ethanol, v/v) following the procedure proposed. The method offers good reproducibility since the relative standard deviations (RSD%) for the volatile compounds levels were less than 9%. This method was used to differentiate the aroma of one hundred mono-varietal young, crianza, reserva and gran reserva La Mancha D.O. wines (cv. Tempranillo) on the basis of oak barrel contact period. Samples were checked at ten time points over 36 months. Sixty important wine odorants, such as volatile phenols, vanillin derivatives, lactones, norisoprenoids, benzene compounds, esters and terpenols, can be quantitatively determined in a single run. Results showed significant quantitative differences in the volatile profiles of wines depending on the length of time in contact with wood, even in wines belonging to the same commercial category. Stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) was used to obtain a model that predicted the time of barrel ageing to which wines were submitted in relation with the wine volatile composition. A successful function based on eight compounds with a mean deviation of 0.37 months in the predictions, was obtained.
