Abstract This article aims to investigate the effect of Zhuyu Pills on atherosclerosis and decipher the underlying mechanism. The mouse model of atherosclerosis was induced by a high-fat diet, and the total modeling period was 12 weeks. A total of 47 ApoE~(-/-) mice successfully modeled were randomized into 5 groups, including 10 in the model group, 9 in each of low-, medium-, and high-dose(130.54, 261.08 and 522.16 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1), respectively) Zhuyu Pills groups, and 10 in the atorvastatin calcium(10.40 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)) group. In addition, 10 C57BL/6J mice were included as the normal group. The mice in the normal group and model group were administrated with an equal volume of sterile distilled water, and those in other groups with corresponding agents by gavage once a day for 12 weeks. At the end of drug intervention, the levels of total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) were measured by the biochemical method. Hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining was employed to observe the plaque distribution in the aortic region. The serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin(IL)-6 in M1 macrophages and anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-13 and IL-4 in M2 macrophages were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The expression levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) and arginase-1(Arg-1) were examined by immunofluorescence. Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(real-time PCR) was employed to measure the mRNA levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ(PPARγ), nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB), Arg-1, and iNOS in the aorta. Western blot was employed to determine the protein levels of PPARγ and NF-κB in the aorta. The results showed that compared with the normal group, the modeling elevated the TC, TG, and LDL-C levels, lowered the HDL-C level, caused large area thickening of the aortic intima, elevated the TNF-α and IL-6 levels, lowered the IL-4 and IL-13 levels, down-regulated the mRNA and protein levels of PPARγ and Arg-1, and up-regulated the mRNA and protein levels of iNOS and NF-κB in the aorta(P<0.01). Compared with the model group, low-, medium-, and high-dose Zhuyu Pills and atorvastatin calcium lowered the TC, TG, and LDL-C levels, elevated the HDL-C level, reduced the plaque area in a concentration-dependent manner, lowered the TNF-α and IL-6 levels, elevated the IL-4 and IL-13 levels, up-regulated the mRNA and protein levels of PPARγ and Arg-1, and down-regulated the mRNA and protein levels of NF-κB and iNOS in the aorta(P<0.05 or P<0.01). In conclusion, Zhuyu Pills may play an anti-atherosclerosis role by regulating PPARγ/NF-κB signaling pathway, inhibiting the polarization of macrophages toward the M1 phenotype, promoting the polarization of macrophages toward the M2 phenotype, and improving the inflammatory microenvironment of macrophages.

Abstract The protection, development, and utilization of medicinal plant resources are important cornerstones of maintaining human health. However, due to factors such as the reduction of high-quality land resources, deterioration of ecological environments, and excessive and disorderly resource development, medicinal plant resources are becoming scarce, and some of them are insufficiently supplied. With the proposal of "the Belt and Road" Initiative, the cooperation between China and "the Belt and Road" partners(the countries and regions involved in "the Belt and Road" Initiative)is increasingly close, which provides a new opportunity for carrying out trade of medicinal plant resources and alleviating the problem of imbalance and relative inadequacy of medicinal plant resources in countries. This study first determined the distribution and species information of plant resources in countries and regions involved in "the Belt and Road" Initiative by investigating the database of plant distribution and that of medicinal plant resources. Then, according to the published data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora(CITES), this study identified the rare and endangered medicinal plants and the medicinal plants under trade control in countries and regions involved in "the Belt and Road" Initiative and finally sorted out the list of potential medicinal plant resources in countries and regions involved in "the Belt and Road" Initiative that can be used by China. This data resource can not only be used for the overall protection of important endangered species but also scientifically guide the development and utilization of medicinal resources, providing guidance and a theoretical basis for the sustainable development of medicinal plant resources in countries and regions involved in "the Belt and Road" Initiative.

Abstract A new group of BF3 complexing phosphate/phosphonate ionic liquids (ILs) [Emim][X(BF3)2] (X = dimethyl phosphate, diethyl phosphate, methyl phosphonate, and ethyl phosphonate) were synthesized and characterized. Key thermophysical properties of the new complex ionic liquids, including density, viscosity, conductivity, surface tension, solid-liquid phase transition, and thermal stability were determined and compared with those of [Emim][X]. Some other important thermophysical properties such as isobaric thermal expansion coefficient, molecular volume, standard molar entropy, and lattice potential energy were obtained from measured density data, and the free volume was estimated by a linear equation presented in this article, while critical temperature, normal boiling temperature, and enthalpy of vaporization were estimated from measured surface tension and density data. Furthermore, Fragility study shows that [Emim][X(BF3)2] could be considered as metallic glass-forming liquids, while [Emim][X] could be considered as extremely fragile liquids. The ionicity of [Emim][X(BF3)2] was predicted by Walden rule, and the result shows that these ILs fit well with Walden law. The key features of these complex ILs are their extremely low glass transition (-95.33~-98.46 ℃) without melting, considerably low viscosities (33.876~58.117 mPa·s), and high values of free volume fraction (comparable to [Omim][BF4], [Emim][NTf2], and [Emim][TCB]).

Abstract Objectives: Acute pancreatitis (AP) has a high incidence of hospitalizations, morbidity, and mortality worldwide. A growing number of studies on AP pathogenesis are based on caerulein-induced experimental model, which simulates human AP in vivo. It has been demonstrated that both pancreatic acinar cells and peritoneal macrophages are involved in pancreatic inflammation and damage. However, their connection has not been well understood.
Methods: A caerulein-induced AP model was established on the pancreatic acinar cell line AR42J. Rat macrophages were isolated from the peritoneal cavity. The effects of caerulein-induced pancreatic exosomes on the peritoneal macrophage and pancreas in vivo and in vitro were examined. The underlying molecular mechanism was investigated by exploring the regulatory role of downstream molecules.
Results: We found that exosomes derived from caerulein-treated AR42J cells induced rat peritoneal macrophage M1 polarization and pyroptosis. miR-24-3p was upregulated in caerulein-stimulated exosomes, whereas the miR-24-3p inhibitor counteracted the effect of pancreatic exosomes on peritoneal macrophage M1 polarization and pyroptosis. Furthermore, miR-24-3p inhibited March3 expression, whereas MARCH3 mediated NLRP3 ubiquitination in rat peritoneal macrophages, which, in turn, contributed to the apoptosis, reactive oxygen species production, and inflammation in AR42J cells.
Conclusions: Exosomes derived from caerulein-stimulated pancreatic acinar cells mediate peritoneal macrophage M1 polarization and pyroptosis via an miR-24-3p/MARCH3/NLRP3 axis in AP.
