Abstract Global health governance is a strategic priority for the World Health Organization (WHO), and the public health surveillance system (PHSS) is a fundamental element of the global health governance structure to timely identify emerging diseases and guide global public health decisions and actions. This analysis explores the overall landscape of global health governance, with a specific focus on the PHSS to understand whether the existing governance landscape facilitates or undermines the WHO's ability to formulate and implement global health policies and initiatives. To achieve this, the existing evidence was reviewed, and synthesized with the experts' perspectives. It is reported that fragmentation is the main drawback of the global health governance landscape, necessitating reorganization and restructuring. The disintegration of PHSS at the global, regional and local levels is associated with a lack of leadership, misalignment with global health priorities, imbalance in coverage of surveillance systems, inadequate innovative technology and digitalization, and fragmented data and information systems. The fragmentation and disintegration of global health governance undermine the effectiveness of the WHO's global health strategic directions and programmes and hinder its ability to govern and guide the global, regional and national public health emergency response. Strategic rethinking of the WHO's governance is essential because strong governance and leadership lead to a robust, aligned and effective PHSS.

Abstract Sub-glottic Stenosis (SGS) treatment in children is challenging because there is no standard algorithm to follow; however, the use of endoscopic techniques in SGS treatment has emerged over the last decades and has advanced. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of Cricotracheal Stenosis Resection (CTSR) among children with congenital vs. acquired SGS. In this retrospective study, we reviewed the charts of 22 patients who underwent endoscopic intervention as the primary modality of treatment for SGS at King Abdulaziz Medical City from January 1, 2011 to October 31, 2019. Successful treatment was defined as: resolution of symptoms, restoration of a normal patent airway with no stenosis, and decannulation. Out of 22 patients, 14 cases were acquired and 8 were congenital SGS. Most of the patients had grade 3 stenosis before surgery 15 (68%), followed by grade 1 stenosis among 4 (18.2%) and grade 2 stenosis was present in 3 (13.6%) patients. Postoperatively, 17 (77.3%) patients improved to grade zero, whereas grade 3 stenosis was not reported in any patient. The Mc-Nemar's test showed significant improvement between pre- and post-operative stenosis grade with test value = 22, and

Abstract Bezold's abscess (BA) is a severe and rare extracranial complication of suppurative acute mastoiditis. The diagnosis of BA requires a high index of suspicion due to its rarity. In this study, we present a rare case of BA, in addition to a review of literature over 20 years. We searched for all cases in English literature from 2000 to 2020 in PubMed and found 27 cases (28 cases including the current case). BA was more prevalent in males (17/28, 60.7%) and adults (17/28, 60.7%). Of the 28 cases, six were associated with cholesteatoma and another six cases occurred with concomitant sinus thrombosis.

Abstract One of the most common inborn errors in fatty acid β oxidation (FAO) is a very long-chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase (VLCAD) deficiency. It is autosomal recessive. The enzyme used in the first phase of FAO is VLCAD. The enzyme is responsible for β oxidation spiral pathway's initial step, the dehydrogenation process of long-chain fatty acyl-CoA. The phenotypes include hypoglycemia, hepatomegaly, cardiomyopathy, and occasionally abrupt mortality. Most VLCAD deficiencies in newborns are now detected during the neonatal period due to the development of newborn screening programs. Mitochondrial DNA depletion syndromes (MTDPS) are one of the rarest metabolic disorders. It is an autosomal recessive disease caused by defects in genes necessary for the maintenance of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). One of these

Abstract Tooth avulsion is a frequently encountered dental emergency. Children are commonly reported group due to frequent sports activities, trauma, accidents and falls. Prompt emergency management is vital for long term success and to avoid morbidity. The study was aimed to assess the understanding of intern dentists about the emergency handling of avulsed teeth cases as mostly they are first responders among health care personnel. In this study a fourteen-item questionnaire with predefined responses was shared as online Google survey form with intern dentists of 5 different dental teaching hospitals of Islamabad, Pakistan. The duration of the study was 6 months (01 March 2022 to 31 August 2022). The questions were intended to collect personal information and to check level of knowledge and awareness about the management of avulsed tooth among the dental interns. The data was analyzed by statistical methods and is presented through tables and descriptive methods. In total, 152 participants completed the shared questionnaire. The vast majority (71%) of them were aware of the initial management of avulsed teeth, 49% were aware of the ideal transport medium for an avulsed tooth, (43%) were aware of the critical time for successful replantation, while (62%) had knowledge of the multiple factors responsible for the outcome of the tooth replantation. For majority of the statements, female participants had better knowledge as compared to their male counterparts. Statistically significant difference was noted for the statement "

Abstract Introduction: Interventional radiology (IR) is a medical specialty that employs imaging techniques such as X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI to guide minimally invasive procedures for diagnosing and treating a variety of medical disorders. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the level of IR awareness among medical students at Majmaah University.
Methods: The cross-sectional investigation was carried out among the medical students at Majmaah University in Saudi Arabia. A self-administered questionnaire that had been pretested was used to gather the data. SPSS Statistics (IBM Corp. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp) was used to analyze the data. The chi-square test was used to compare qualitative data, and a p-value <0.05 was considered significant.
Results: There were 202 students who participated in this study, and among them, the majority were males, 126 (62.4%), and the majority of them were pre-clinical students, 105 (52.0%). Knowledge of routinely performed procedures by IR (only by a radiologist) was assessed; 116 (57.4%) of them responded with paracontinuous transluminal coronary angioplasty, 105 (52.0%) with central venous access, and 100 (49.5%) with lower arterial limp percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, which are routinely performed procedures by the radiologists. There was no significant difference in knowledge levels between genders.
Conclusion: Increasing awareness of IR among medical students is essential to improving patient outcomes and addressing healthcare challenges. Efforts to educate and expand access to IR services must be prioritized to ensure that medical students receive a comprehensive education and that patients receive the highest quality care possible.

Abstract Purpose: To estimate the prevalence and associated risk factors of dry eye disease (DED) among the citizens of Saudi Arabia.
Methods: A cross-sectional prevalence survey was administered to 4066 healthy adults from the five main regions of Saudi Arabia. Initial estimates of the prevalence and associated risk factors of DED were calculated for the general population and then stratified by demographic characteristics such as age, sex, and location. DED was assessed by a short, validated dry-eye questionnaire.
    Results: The overall prevalence of DED was 49.5 % (n = 2016), including 33.1 % (n = 1347) of participants who reported a previous DED diagnosis and 16.4 % (n = 669) who reported severe symptoms; 14.7 % reported severe symptoms and a previous DED diagnosis (n = 598). The DED prevalence among men was 49.8 % (n = 1005) compared with 50.2 % (n = 1011) for women. The multivariate model analysis confirmed the increased prevalence of DED in women (OR 1.48; 95 % CI 1.30-1.88), those ≥60 years of age (OR 1.99; 95 % CI 1.60-2.81), those who had undergone refractive surgery (OR 1.79; 95 % CI 1.50-2.59), those having undergone acne treatment (OR 1.51; 95 % CI 1.34-1.97), contact lens wearers (OR 1.77; 95 % CI 1.40-2.48), those having taken antiallergy drugs (OR 2.23; 95 % CI 1.55-2.78) or antidepressants (OR 1.60; 95 % CI 1.14-2.44), and those who reported computer use of >6 h per day (OR 1.66; 95 % CI 1.41-2.52).
Conclusion: Dry eye is a common disease among the Saudi Arabian population. Prevalence is found to be high and vary significantly across the country. DED could be attributed to dry weather, low annual rainfall, low humidity, widespread use of air conditioners, air pollution, high temperature, and exposure to sunlight.
