    Abstract We compute for the first time the lepton-pair rapidity distribution in the photon-mediated Drell-Yan process to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD. The calculation is based on the q_{T}-subtraction method, suitably extended to this order for quark-antiquark initiated Born processes. Our results display sizeable QCD corrections at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order over the full rapidity region and provide a fully independent confirmation of the recent results for the total Drell-Yan cross section at this order.

    Abstract We have previously shown that Liang-Yan-Yi-Zhen-San (LYYZS), an ancient Chinese herbal formula, can promote the browning of white adipose tissue. In this study, we sought to determine which active ingredients of LYYZS mediated its effects on the browning of white adipose tissue. Employing ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-Q-Exactive HF mass spectrometry, a total of 52 LYYZS ingredients were identified. On this basis, 1,560 ingredient-related targets of LYYZS were screened using the HERB databases. Meanwhile, RNA sequencing analysis of the inguinal white adipose tissue of mice produced a total of 3148 genes that were significantly differentially expressed following LYYZS treatment and differentially expressed genes regarded as browning-related targets. Through the network pharmacological analysis, a total of 136 intersection targets were obtained and an ingredient-target-pathway network was established. According to network pharmacology analysis, 10 ingredients containing trans-cinnamaldehyde, genistein, daidzein, calycosin, arginine, coumarin, oleic acid, isoleucine, palmitic acid and tyrosine were regarded as active ingredients of browning of white adipose tissue. Integrated evaluation using chemical analysis, transcriptomics and network pharmacology provides an efficient strategy for discovering the active ingredients involved in how LYYZS promotes the browning of white adipose tissue.

    Abstract Nieh-Yan anomaly describes the non-conservation of chiral charges induced by the coupling between Dirac fermions and torsion fields. Since the torsion field is beyond general relativity, this effect remains hypothetical and its relevance to our universe is unclear in the context of high-energy physics. In this work, we propose that the phonons can induce a torsion field for the Kramers-Weyl fermions through electron-phonon interaction in a non-magnetic chiral crystal, thus leading to the occurrence of the Nieh-Yan anomaly in this condensed matter system. As a consequence, the Nieh-Yan term can strongly influence the phonon dynamics and lead to the helicity of acoustic phonons, namely, two transverse phonon modes mix with each other to form a circular polarization with a non-zero angular momentum at a finite phonon momentum and the phonon angular momentum reverses its sign for opposite momenta due to time reversal symmetry. The phonon helicity can be probed through measuring the total phonon angular momentum driven by a temperature gradient.

    Abstract The Yan’an area, located on the Loess Plateau in Northern Shaanxi Province, China, experienced heavy and prolonged rainfall in July 2013, which induced 8,135 slope failures (loess landslides and loess flow-slides), destroying approximately 10,000 cave dwellings and killing 45 people. Field investigations have indicated that the occurrence of loess flow-slides is closely related to infiltration depth, slope angle, slope morphology, rainfall intensity, and loess strength. The results from this study showed that (a) most of the loess flow-slides in Yan’an were small scale, ranging in volume from tens of cubic meters to hundreds of cubic meters; (b) the loess flow-slides only occurred at a depth of <2 m, corresponding to a surface layer of completely saturated loess; (c) most slope failures of loess flow-slides occurred on loess slopes with angles between 35° and 50°; and (d) a reduction in the soil strength of saturated loess was a primary cause of the occurrence of loess flow-slides. However, tree roots may reinforce deeper soil mass (>2 m) and can effectively prevent loess flow-slides.

    Abstract As an ophthalmic monograph compiled to systemize and elaborate the Yuan ji qi wei (Revealing the Mystery of Eye Disease) written to explore the gist of the original author, a valuable edition of the original Yuan ji qi wei. SHI Shi-de made reviews and comments to each eye disease included in the first volume of Yuan ji qi wei, followed by the rhymes on the etiology, manifestations, treatment and prescriptions written by his son SHI Guang, and rearranged and systemized the whole text made by his little brother SHI Shi-qi for better memory and popularization. He stressed the significant position of Yuan ji qi wei. The achievements of the Yan ke zheng zong yuan ji qi wei can be summarized into 4 points: the "18 disease" of eye disease is the guidelines for the differential diagnosis of ophthalmic diseases; Shi's annotation developed the essence of Ni's theory; SHI Guang's rhymes facilitated the spread of Ni's theory; the "hints for prescription" being the standards for the treatment of eye disease.

    Abstract Objective: Shen Yan Ling Tablet is an innovative compound of traditional Chinese medicine, scientifically prepared with Tripterygium wilfordii, Radix Astragali, and others, with precise efficacy on renal diseases and reduced adverse effects of Tripterygium wilfordii. Based on the Guiding Principles for New Drug Toxicity Research Before Clinical Application, we investigated the long-term toxicity of Shen Yan Ling Tablet and its effect on the reproductive function in rats.
    Methods: According to the clinical therapeutic dose and the results of the acute toxicity test of Shen Yan Ling Tablet, we equally divided 80 rats (males and females half-and-half) into a low-dose (1.25 g/kg body wt), a medium-dose (2.50 g/kg body wt), a high-dose (5.00 g/kg body wt) and a control group. After a 3-month medication, we conducted standardized long-term toxicity tests and observed the effects of Shen Yan Ling on the serum sexual hormones and epididymal sperm count.
    Results: After 3 months of treatment with Shen Yan Ling, no death occurred, the general status remained unchanged, and the parameters of blood cytology and biochemistry fluctuated within the normal range, without any significant changes (P > 0.05). Some blood parameters, RBC, WBC, HGB, AST and TBIL, showed statistic changes (P < 0.05), but with no clinical significance. There were no significant differences in the mass coefficients of the main organs between the medication and control groups. The high-dose group exhibited slight hepatic and pulmonary pathological changes and significantly reduced sperm counts in the epididymis, but no significant changes in serum sexual hormones (P < 0.05).
    Conclusion: Three-month medication of Shen Yan Ling at 1.25 - 5.00 g/kg produced no significant accumulated toxicity on rats, but it had a negative effect on their reproductive function at a higher dose of > or = 5.00 g/kg.
