Abstract Introduction/aims: Oxaliplatin is a platinum-based anti-cancer drug widely used in colorectal cancer patients, but it may cause peripheral neuropathy. As one of the main causes of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (OPN) is oxidative stress, which is also a key factor causing diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), the aim of this study was to evaluate the preventive effects of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) and epalrestat (EP), which are used for the treatment of DPN, in an OPN zebrafish model.
Methods: Tg(nbt:dsred) transgenic zebrafish, with sensory nerves in the peripheral lateral line, were treated with oxaliplatin, oxaliplatin/EP, and oxaliplatin/ALA for 4 days. A confocal microscope was used to visualize and quantify the number of axon bifurcations in the distal nerve ending. To analyze the formation of synapses on sensory nerve terminals, quantification of membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) puncta was performed using immunohistochemistry.
Results: The number of axon bifurcations and intensity of MAGUK puncta were significantly reduced in the oxaliplatin-treated group compared with those in the embryo medium-treated group. In both the oxaliplatin/EP and oxaliplatin/ALA-treated groups, the number of axon bifurcations and intensity of MAGUK puncta were greater than those in the oxaliplatin-treated group (p < .0001), and no significant difference was observed between larvae treated with oxaliplatin/ALA 1 μM and oxaliplatin/EP 1 μM (p = .4292).
Discussion: ALA and EP have protective effects against OPN in zebrafish. Our findings show that ALA and EP can facilitate more beneficial treatment for OPN.

Abstract All-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) with enhanced safety are considered one of the most promising substitutes for liquid electrolyte-based Li-ion batteries. However, many properties of solid electrolytes, such as ionic conductivity, film formability, and electrochemical, mechanical, thermal, and interfacial stability need to be improved for their practical application. In this study, a vertically aligned Li

Abstract Background: Despite the demonstrated immunogenicity and safety of the 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV20) in older adults, the cost-effectiveness of the PCV20 was not examined compared to the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) in South Korea. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of PCV20 compared with PPSV23 in adults aged 65 years and older in South Korea.
Methods: We constructed a Markov model that included susceptible states, invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), non-bacteremic pneumonia (NBP), and death. The population was categorized by disease risk status (low risk, moderate risk, and high risk) and age group (65-74/75-84/85-99 years) at model entry. The annual incidence and mortality of IPD and NBP associated with PCV20 and PPSV23 were estimated based on serotype coverage, vaccine coverage, and vaccine effectiveness. The disease costs and utilities were obtained from previous studies. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was used to evaluate cost-effectiveness within the threshold of 16,824 USD per quality-adjusted life-year (QALY).
Results: Among the total population (n = 8,843,072), PCV20 prevented 1941 and 50,575 cases of IPDs and NBPs, respectively, and 898 and 8593 deaths due to IPDs and NBPs compared to PPSV23. The total medical cost per person was 12.11 USD higher in PCV20, with a gain of 0.0053 LYs and 0.0045 QALYs per person. The ICER for PCV20 and PPSV23 was 2270 USD/LY and 2677 USD/QALY.
Conclusions: In South Korea, PCV20 is a cost-effective option compared with PPSV23 for adults aged 65 years and older. These cost-effectiveness results provide evidence for decision-making regarding the approval and National Immunization Program implementation of PCV20.

Abstract Understanding the creation of the crystal framework and finding its origin in the perovskite structure is one of the most important tasks in the perovskite research field. The fundamental observation of the formation of a perovskite crystal from a liquid phase to a solid-state promotes the realization of an ideal perovskite structure. In this work, we investigated how to determine the crystal structure of cesium tin triiodide (CsSnI₃) perovskite from the precursor solution to the crystallization film. Based on the opto-physical spectroscopy data and chemical interaction results, we found that tin(ii) cations are the main active sites to determine the crystal framework of CsSnI₃ perovskite. The Sn²⁺ precursor has strong coordination bonding with the sulfinyl group of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent in the liquid phase, which is kept in the solid phase and determines the CsSnI₃ crystal structure. To achieve a more grain-ordered crystal structure by the coordination interaction, we introduced a new molecule, an ammonium trifluoromethanesulfonate (ATMS) anion, with a sulfonate group. Through the strong chemical interaction between the Sn²⁺ cation and ATMS anion, the Sn²⁺ precursor-based crystal phase was controlled. This facilitated unprecedented two-step synthesis of the CsSnI₃ perovskite crystal and solar cell application, which revealed better device stability than conventional methods reported to date.
